weitaro
I found one locally. not the cheapest one but the owner claimed he had engine rebuilt done by professional. new manifold and new suspension, muffler, batteries and alternator. I know nothing about z and from his pictures, it looks like he was doing some exterior body mods. any modders want to chime on this? what was he trying to achieve? the car's not painted. it looks like it needs some bodywork should I go for it? thanks for your time! iBang
How much is "not the cheapest"? That looks pretty rough to me. It looks like he "shaved" the back bumper with screwed on sheet metal and the front looks to have a ton of bondo on it. Personally I'd avoid that one unless its really cheap enough to justify the tons of work that will need to be done to get it working good again. weitaro
it's about US$1300 I find the rear back bumper sketchy as well...don't know what he was trying to do. the car is running well. it's just that ugly body surface that's holding me back... KenshinX
I wouldnt even touch that. Any pics of the front? From the side it looks like it has a double chin. yuck. keep looking there are alot better out there.
rturbo 930
Wouldn't touch that one with a 10ft pole.
LowCarbZ
Yeah unless you've got a rotisserie, sand blaster, good welder and some skills i'd be runnin' away from that one. I know Z's are tough to come by in decent shape up here, but I came across much better examples when I was searching.
skib
run far away from that Z... it looks like he tried to graft an S13(or somthing) bumper cover to the nose
Axmiester
Def wouldn't buy it. You can find better for the same price or less.
V8INtheZ
I wouldnt even consider it.

islanddozer
Didn't know about the paper thing but it is rebuildable. see this one http://vancouver.en.craigslist.ca/cto/1027639498.html or http://vancouver.en.craigslist.ca/cto/1014327872.html
The Infidel
run away. the rear end, the front end, and the three different colors are a clue to walk away. keep your eyes out in local papers and craigslist for a better buy. this guy is looking for a sucker. like that guy even needs the club on that bucket. weitaro
Is it easier to work on the body or the engine? I do see some 240z on the craigslist but they are usually not running.
LowCarbZ
Faaaaaaarrrr easier to find a relatively clean shell and toss in a functioning drivetrain. Or repair/rebuild the existing drivetrain components and L series engine. But be reasonable. It' sa 35 year old car. So unless you're shelling out $15,000+ you're not likely to find a completely flawless example of a Z. Most have rust in the floorpans, below the battery, rockers, etc. etc.
weitaro
easier just to toss in the drivetrain? even with the transmission and everything? alright i guess i will consider buying one that's not running.
LowCarbZ
Yes far easier. You'll often find that small amounts of rust end up turning into a balls deep restoration project welding new metal to a lot of the car.

weitaro
I already talked to the seller of that 280zx. I think it's a good deal..it's just that I like the styling of 1st generation Z better.
