Four or five speed in 1978 280Z?

I have found a donor car, 1978 280Z, I called the owner and he doesn't know if the car has a 4 or 5 speed!

I probably won't buy the car if it's a four speed

so I was wondering what you guys think?

This car has been sitting about four years , what are the odds of this tranny being any good? I know the rebuilds can get pretty costly.

Thanks, Kevin

From my experience shifty.gif , if the owner does not know if it is a eek2.gif 4 or 5 speed, you had better go look yourself since it may not even have a transmisssion setting that long rolleyesg.gif . The owner may not have all his twak.gif fingers which would surely complicate the count to 5 bonk.gif

You said this is a donor car. Donor for what? If you are putting in a V8 than the stock transmission is an ebay item anyway. Or do you want this car for the engine and transmission?

The Datsun 5 speeds are relatively cheap and not expensive to rebuild. I had mine done years ago and I don't remember it costing more than a clutch job.
