M.Creer
I'm new to this forum, an I was wondering if anybody knew much about the L28FI fuel system. I have a 1976 280Z with a l28 FI in it. I drove it home tuned it up an it ran great. Then I ran out of gas and now it won't start. I unhooked the fuel filter an let the hose out. It's not spraying gas an the fuel pump isn't gettin power. unless I run wires from the battery then it sprays but won't start. Anyone have any ideas? .......Thanks
ezzzzzzz
First, you need to go over to http://www.carfiche.com and download your manual (if your car is shown as TNA then come back in about an hour and it should be available then). It wouldn't hurt to paypal a couple dollars there too. It's a great free resource. Second, figure out why your fuel pump power is not getting to the pump. It could be a fuse or relay issue. The wiring diagram and data from your manual is helpful here. Once that is corrected then worry about getting the car to start. I still runs carbs so I'm not knowledgable with your FI but the troubleshooting basics still apply.
Silver Mine Motors
Yes get a manual and check your fuel pump relay, most likely that's your problem. If the relay is working then you want to check your fusible links. You should get a manual if your going to own a 280z.
MONGO510
If you only put in a gallon or so of gas, your pump may not prime itself.

Pharaohabq
Wonder if that worked... It's possible when you ran out of gas your Fuel filter sucked in some crud and became clogged, you probably want to replace it and see what difference that makes. Z gas tanks are notorious for getting rust and crud inside over the past 30 odd years.
M.Creer
Sorry I've been busy working, and haven't tried any of your suggestions yet. I will probably get to it this weekend. I know for a fact the fuel pump isn't gettin any juice. Again thanks for all the help.
cgsheen
The 76 is supposed to power the fuel pump when you have the ignition in the START (cranking) position. NOT in the ON position if the engine is not running. Once the engine is running a switch in the AFM keeps the fuel pump powered. It's annoying, but it's a safety thing. Shuts off the fuel pump if no air is being sucked through the AFM. I guess they don't like to see a fireball if it can be prevented... Definately get the 76 280Z FSM from carfiche... It tells all about that stuff. My son has a 76. We swapped out the L28E for an L28ET a couple of years ago.
