260DET
Does anyone know if SAE spec fuel injection hoses are toluene tolerant? Heard tell that it hardens hoses and can cause them to spall inside, so blocking fuel filters and so on. Thinking of using up to 30%. PalmettoZ
Hey- I found your question interesting, since I thought about mixing in a gallon in my tank once I start to run my high compression engine here in the next few months. I think that the SAE hose that you buy here in the local auto parts store in not tolerable to adding Tolulene, and would get brittle and crack over time. And of course this would vary with the procentage of mixture of Tolulene to Benzine. Why not just use teflon braided hose to be sure with AN fittings, just to be sure. More expensive but no worries. grumpyvette
thats total B.S. theres up to 35% TOLULENE, already in most currently used auto gasoline http://forum.grumpysperformance.com/viewtopic.php?f=55&t=613&p=1379&hilit=booster#p1379
MoNkEyT88
I read about a guy mixing his own for high octane fuel on some forum. I think I remember them saying because he was purchasing so much toluene from a store that they thought he was running a drug lab. But as Grumpy stated, the oil companies use Toluene already in the gas we all use, so I don't think it should be a problem.
260DET
Decided to ring Shell tech, see what they say. But if US fuels have significant levels of toluene already and SAE is a American standard then SAE hoses should be fine, one would think.
