Manual Boost Controller? My stock boost gauge tops out at the stock 6 psi
Aaron D
Is the car running? What issues are you having now if any? I'm not sure what could be causing the boost spike/spikes. I'm not a Turbo-pro, but if the car is running normally, then there's hope!
mitch603
I do have an aftermarket boost gauge that shows boost to 30psi and vac to 30mmhg. The car is not really running that well anymore. Lots of bluish-white smoke from the exhusat with the occasional backfire or two. Unfortunately i do not have a boost controller. but i was looking to put in a hallman pro with an HKS BOV to stop the excessive boost. hoov100
I think you might have blew the oil/coolant seals in the turbo, when your wastegate stuck closed, i would check the exhaust and intake for oil/coolant and check the vacuum lines that go to your waste gate actuator. mitch603
The seals are not blown. I ran the car today with noi smoke. I am still overboosting like crazy. But i went under the car and there are 2 vaccum nipples right on the side of the turbo and they are not connected to anything
FlatBlack
Can you keep your right foot off the pedal a bit until you figure out what's wrong? You don't HAVE to be in boost all the time Do a compression test, that will narrow it down.

That would be the problem.

Its parked in my garage until i figure out whats wrong. the only time i run it is when i test out repairs at the moment and how would i go about doing a compression test
FlatBlack
You can get rent Compression testers at AutoZone or you local parts store, you pull all the plugs and crank the motor over to test the compression per cylinder.
mitch603
my compression is fine. the mototr runs strong its only the turbo screwing up. I have no vac lins under my turbo connected they are all missing
FlatBlack
so, no vacuum reference for your wastegate as 240Zed said? Also you might want to check out Z31performance dot com or other Z31 sites. They are more geared to your chassis/platform and willl most likely know more about common isues with the VG30ET.

FlatBlack
Haha Here are some pictures of my T3: The wastegate opens at a certain PSI to stop over boosting/boost spikes/whatever you want to call it. It needs vacuum reference to do this. Once the WG hits a certain boost level, it will open a valve to let the exhaust gas bypass the turbine Does your turbo have those vacuum hoses? mitch603
it didnt but i replaced them and now the turbo is running great. thanks for all the help guys. Also whats the best MBC for this car at the moment. I was looking into a hallman pro with a ceramic ball for like
cockerstar
There's no way I'd pay that kind of money for a MBC when you can make one yourself for less than $10. Google "DIY manual boost controller". For $180 you can pick up a cheap EBC.
aplyedmind
I made my MBC at auto zone outta there random parts for 15 dollars.
Mikez31ss
Looks like 240Zed and flatblack already helped you solve your problem but just out of curiosity do you still have your POV installed? If so that that makes me feel much better about running all those years w/ mine plugged
