JayBee280
as the title says it idles smooth but just dies when i give it gas i figured it was a vacuum leak but i havent touch anything in the car engine wise. and just yesterday it would rev fine no problems then it all went to s*** and on an added note i havent driven the car i just start up my car let it run a lil bit then shut it off because im waiting on the title to the car. but as i was saying it revved fine yesterday then i finished my clutch master cyclinder rebuild and install in the car it was fine. then i went to start it up today to put air in the tires. so i gave it some gas and anything about 1500rpm it would just die. first i thought i was mass air flow sensor because this happen on a previous car i had so i brought some cleaner and it did nothing....well maybe but not what i was looking for. anyways i hope that was enough info to help me out and there is gas in the car i went and did that to
sweetleaf
First, we need to know what car/engine this is. I would start by checking your fuel pressure.

roger.svoboda
be sure you didn't knock any wires or vacuum hoses loose when you were working on the clutch master. pull the oil filler cap when idling. if it doesn't make it run worse then you have a vacuum leak someplace. JayBee280
i also get a hissing noise from my air flow meter. but ill try the oil filler cap idea now
driftinpinoy23
Was wondering if you found out the problem because I have the same problem on a sr20det in a 78 280z. It idles fine but when I give throttle it dies and not sure what it could be.
beebeecivic
I also have the same problem in my 78 Z
JayBee280
so i change my throttle body gasket out today and it helped rev but now it only revs to 4 grand then dies down slowly. i think it may be a fuel problem. and sometimes the air flow back fires..i guess thats what you call. like the flapper slaps back to the meter. zuum
timing sounds off, but in my experience, if it seems like ignition, its fuel and if it seems like fuel its ignition. Too much fuel or too little can also cause similar symtoms. Check your timing, and also pull the spark plugs to check them, if fouled clean them or buy more having 2 sets when tuning is nice... then go from there.
