Two80z4me
I See people with throttle bodies, carbs do it all the time, no filter, just straight up Open. How Safe Is it? What is the consequence of doing it? and what is the Postive ?
1badeagle
You can suck stuff up into the carb or throttle body into the intake and combustion chamber. You could potentially ruin your motor. You normally only see it on drag cars and they sometimes run a screen to block stuff. In short.....Dont do it.
MAG58
For the slim flow increase you get between a good air filter and an open intake, It's not the cost of sucking all sorts of exciting things into your motor. ...Unless of course you enjoy rebuilding motors much more often. If you've ever seen an air filter after 30k (I'm sure you have), All of that went INTO your motor. ...Tasty.
Nizm0Zed
^^^^ But most of it is bugs. Bugs burn right? i put them in a mates rollie once, he didnt think it was funny, but they did burn... But in all seriousness, Dirt/dust doesnt burn, it carbonizes in the cylinder, leading to increased wear.
woldson
Think of it as fine sandpaper. I've seen rather large increases and decreases with air cleaners on Dyno runs, and no difference, go figure.
