The original offer on the table was $1000. My question is, was I stupid to walk away?? And if not.. What's it worth?? Check it out. Something about this one left me thinking that it wasn't the one for me.Good clean shells are really hard to find in the northeast. Even when they seem really clean, there's usually rust hiding. I would recommend just spending the extra coin to get a shell from the west coast. Some of the worst shells you can find in CA are probably better than 90% of what's in the northeast. The other side of that though is that it costs more in the long run just to fix the rust on a rusty shell, unless it's a really small amount of rust. I'm really looking forward to being able to buy a really nice, clean, 100% rust free CA shell. There is an upside though, and that is, cars are cheap in CA. And, since 75 and older are smog exempt, 76+ shells don't seem to be favorable, whereas here it doesn't matter. Basically they're cheap, and solid. You might ask Sparks 280zt (I think that's his username) what he paid to ship a 280z from CA to NC. Should give you a good ball park figure. Well found nothing at all. So I did some searching on California craiglist and found a nice little rust free gem and had a local member check it out. Everything look good so I bought it and it is rust free. Cost me $600 to ship from Modesto CA to Lenoir NC, over 2500 miles! You can't put floor pans in for $600! Long haul is cheaper per mile for us, since only the big trucks do long haul and they carry 10 cars, so they can afford to be cheaper than the pick ups hauling 3 cars. SuperPickle Posted November 2, 2009 Share Posted November 2, 2009 I bought mine while I was stationed in CA with my moving allowance (stupid, stupid, stupid!). While I was in Aghanistan for a year, it stayed in my mother's driveway and turned from a spotless gem to a rust pocketed nightmare! Make sure it's painted/primed right after you get it home! And about this car... Most of the people on this board wouldn't think twice about dumping a Z that isn't absolutely spotless, so sometimes it's hard to get an opinion that factors in sentimentality. I'm going to be acid dipping and having my 280z straightened, welded, and painted for 10-15k, and even I wouldn't touch this car! Hope that gives some perspective. I will have to save up some money to get exactly waht I want, approx $1000 more than I thought I was going to spend, but if I can get something rust free than it will be worth it for sure! But I def have some saving to do. I thought sure I was going to be able to find a decent shell on the north east somewhere. People hiding their garage goodies.
