Worked on putting my engine and new tranny back in the car this weekend. A little info for anyone doing a T56 into a 280Z, very little pounding on the passenger side tunnel and none on the drivers side. Also I didn't have to remove any fins and the JTR rear tranny mount did not need to be shortend because the tunnel was still pretty wide back there.

Damn! there is a buttload of space in my engine compartment now, it looks like I could shove a another engine in there... I like it!

Dan,

Told ya it was a better solution....Just wait till you drive it!!! I think Owen or Mike KZ mentioned that the fins DON'T have to come off. I had written my tech article based on what Matt Millen advised, which is why I ground off my fins and widened the tunnel more than I needed to. I didn't have to modify my tranny mount Either... Fit like a glove between the framerails!

You are gonna flip when you drive it now... More weight to the rear wheels and you will spin MUCH less now! Faster launches, better steering and braking!!!!!

Let us know what you think!

Mike

Very cool Dan! ....you are giving me more motivation to spped up my pursuit of completing my '76 280Z with an LS1 and T56 transplant!

Are you going to post any pics of the finished installation on your webpage?.....I'm VERY interested to see how you did it

I didn't have to grind any fins off the

tranny. But I did have to hammer the tunnel

of my 73Z.

Now that my driveshaft is done, I'm finding out that the tranny is not pointing straight

back to the diff, so I will need to grind the

fins off near the reverse lamp connector and

possibly hammer a little more.

The Rev. Lockout Solenoid rubs against the

wall right now. Mikelly, I think this could

be removed altogether as well since it's not

absolutely needed.
