cd1105
I put everthing from my p90 head in a bag when i sent the head to the machine shop. The machine shop cleaned it, pressure tested it, put in my new springs, valves, seals, keepers etc. So now all I have in my bag is the springs for the rocker arms, rocker arms, lash pads and these little metal rings. I'm not sure where they go but i know they came off the head. The machine shop didn't use all my old keepers i still had about 4 left so im assuming they already had some and used those in there, maybe they had some of the rings they had lying around and used them? I have 12 of them, I hope they didn't forget to install these or something or i will have some words for them monday morning. I checked the haynes manual and they don't show them in there. Thanks
letitsnow
All I can think of is that they go around the valve seals to hold them on, if they are the new valve seals should have their own. How big around are they?
cd1105
No I don't believe so the valve steam seals look like little springs if I'm correct these are about the size of a penny or dime.
evil_datto
I'm thinking they're from the original valve seals too... Are you perhaps looking at your new seals which would have the small thin springs? Penny size sounds about right for valve seal.
thetremendoustim
Maybe they're like the spacers... are they around .005-.01" thick? I have no idea, that's my best idea although they look too skinny to be spacers. Its weird one is noncontinuous (broken?) too

I got a gasket set for an the entire motor and new valve stem seals came with them and the ring on them doesn't look like these.
dan5138
They are valve stem seal retainers. I stripped down a P90 about a month ago, and had a hell of a time getting those off. The top part of the seal has the spring like you mentioned. These rings go on the bottom of the seal and keep it crimped to the head. I don't remember having a hard time getting them pulling them off though, probably because i just ripped the seals off with a flat head screw driver. Quick question my new seals didn't come with these was i supposed to reuse them? IF thats the case the machine shop either F%$ked up or used new ones. The newer ones (depending on which valve seals you're using) are just rubber on the bottom. If they were supposed to be there, a pronounced grove or lip for them to ride in would be at the bottom of the seal. And for the record, it took a small act of God to get mine off after 200k+

cd1105
When reassembling my head(p90) i came a cross a little metal circular coin like object. When taking apart my head i put everything into one bag and this was in the gab for head parts. Anybody know where this goes and what its for? Administrators BRAAP Posted May 4, 2010 Administrators Share Posted May 4, 2010 Hard to tell, pics are fuzzy and nothing next to it to reference size or thickness. Wild guess, a "knock-out" from a metal electrical box used in construction?...
