z-ya
We have stumbled on what we think is a Nissan Competition oil pan. What I don't have is the windage tray. Firstly, do you think we need one for road racing? Secondly, doe anyone have photos of a similar pan with the windage tray installed? From the photos below you can see where it bolted in. Also notice connecting rod dents (ouch).
johnc
That's a homemade pan, not a Nissan Comp pan - at least not one made in the last 20 years.
z-ya
John, Any suggestions on the windage tray? Do I need one? Thanks, Pete
johnc
Its more of a splash tray and it helps keep the oil down near the box. You don't need one but its probably a good idea. Just make sure it doesn't impeded drainback.
24OZ
Something that Nissan Comp would make would be cast, not welded together. Take a look at the Arizona pan pics and use as a guide to design your tray.
johnc
The roadster and some of the L16-20 comp pans were cast. The 240Z pans sold by Nissan Comp (and made by Don Oldenberg) were welded up from sheet steel.
24OZ
I stand corrected, thank you Sir.
Tony D
Z-Ya, PM me and I can e-mail you some Comp Pan Photos. RIght this very second, it's 345pm in Narita's Star Gold Lounge, but in several more hours I will be landing in LAX (about 8 hours before I left according to the clock) and can take some snappies of the Comp Pan I just bought off e-bay. The windage tray is pretty straightforward. Hell, I'll even put a ruler into the photo so you can scale it in your forgery attempts! LOL

z-ya
that looks pretty cool; im still looking for a front stump l28 pan.... perhaps i can have one made? How far front? The L24 pans have a sump that is more central than the L28.
Tony D
Watcha need a front-sump for, got a Skyline? They should be fairly easily obtainable, they were in Skylines that way. The older ones had 'hammerhead shark head' kickouts on the sump as well.
