stravi757
It seems like no matter what there is always a problem with the Z. Finally after two long years I finally have my car running great mechanically! After doing countless things to my car As of tonight its finally running perfect, And I mean perfect! The last problem was a clogged up fuel pump which was keeping me stumped for about a week now until l I hooked up a fpg. So now, since I have my car running I decided to take it for a spin. My brother is driving a 328i 2003 bmw and where getting on the freeway onramp starting from 0. We say "What the hell, Lets see who's is quicker 0-60" we take off. Were pretty even untill I hit about 5,000. Right as I pull to shift my friend in the car goes "WTF!" and see's me holding my shift lever in the air, As my engine just revs to 6K plus. I coudnlt believe it, What are the chances that the day I finally get my car running the shifter breaks. I wasnt evem mad. Me and my friend started laughing. It seems like no matter what, somethihng is going to break on this car. This was an after market short shifter, so thats probably why it broke but I got a good laugh out of it so I thought I would share. I just think its funny how no matter what, something goes wrong. garvice
I use to have a TF cortina wagon. The brake booster was leaking so I had bought a second hand one from the wreckers and headed over to my mates place to change it over. He wanted something to eat so we went to McDonalds first. Went to put the car into reverse and the whole shifter pulled straight out. The thing was threaded in with a large nylon thread. We had to drive the car home in second gear with the car revving its head off down a 50mph road. Was pretty funny when I looked back at it though. Guest Rolling Parts
Ah, the joys and surprises of driving old cars... I had the clutch pivot BOLT (the mushroom headed bolt under the throwout lever in the transmission) break. It broke at it's narrowest point just due to 30 years of corrosion. I was just driving along and the clutch pedal just went to the floor on a normal shift. I thought I'd lost a slave cylinder but no.....I had to pull the transmission! Yea, I also though "you gotta be kidding me!"
m1noel
I had the same thing happen while racing in my 66 Chevelle. Hurst shifter just came apart going for 2nd.
cygnusx1
I have had that happen before. It startles the crap out of you. I was shifting up, and ended up punching the dash with the shifter in my hand instead! LOL
skib
On one of my old motors, I was at the track and it started making a terrible "clack! clack! clack!" I thought Id lost a valve or spun a bearing. So I got it home and had torn the intake off, all the accessories off, exhaust off all the way to the muffler, untill it was just a bare long block. then I decided to pull the cam cover off...... and it had just dropped one of the intake rockers.... and i was like "wow... really?" took everything off for nothing and had to put it all back together
auxilary
about 9 years ago my buddy bought a porsche 914. He calls me up one day and says "hey, come help me drive my car back, I'm stuck at work. Throttle cable broke" So, we ran the throttle cable from the back over the t-tops around 9pm, and I sat there controlling the throttle while he operated everything else. After a while we got in sync so he didn't have to tell me when to gas it. However it was much funnier when we were on the freeway next to a cop, and I floored it on purpose
