mldub2
I am going from auto to manual tranny. Here is my question. When i took of the flex plate it has 2 plates on both sides of it. when i try to install the flywheel with the 2 plates the bolts are short. Are the plates only for the flexplate because its thiner or are manual tranny blots longer.
letitsnow
Both of the manual transmission L28's I've taken apart have not had any spacers or plates between the flywheel and the crankshaft.
mldub2
OKey what about a plate between the flywheel bolts and the flywheel itself.
letitsnow
No, haven't seen one of those either. The only reason I could think for one of those would be if it had tabs to bend up and prevent the bolts from backing out.

TimZ
Just put in on with out the plates and it looks good. Thank you so much for your help. You got it right - the plates are not for the flywheel. I've seen the outer plate used as a washer to keep the bolts from deforming an aluminum flywheel, but that doesn't leave very many threads for the bolts to engage the crankshaft. proxlamus©
The automatic transmission has a flex plate with a washer/spacer sandwiched between the engine block and the flex plate.. In order to install a manual transmission, the flywheel will be bolted on the block without the spacer. Be sure to add a pilot bushing/bearing at the end of the crank since the automatics did not require one!!! =)
