Anyone own a 1st Gen Camaro?

Toying with the idea of selling/trading both my Z's and going with a 67-69 Camaro. I've done a bunch of research over the years but just wanted to hear from someone first hand any info they could lend. Likes, dislikes, drivability.. blahblah. Thanks in advance.

MOney more money than two Z's to get a nice one. Rust oh boy yes! Money pit Oh lord yes. Good gm fun you bet! But hey year one offers a chassis for 10 grand.

Dream car. If somebody offered to trade a shell of one that was in 'decent' shape for my z. Even if it was running, I wouldn't think twice about it. I want a 68 ss for sure. 67's have the wing windows. Only year that did, if you like that get a 67, little more money. There is a strait six one for 9800. Look on Indianapolis Craigslist. Its a 76, powerglide auto, 3 owners is what the ad said.

It's my father's project, even though I do all of the work on it.

I would not recommend going with drop spindles when you do the suspension - it makes a lot of stuff a PITA. Go with 1" drop springs and call it a day. I'll let you guess what route the PO went with when he got to make the decision

 

I love the sound of the cam'd 350 (not that you can't do that with your Zs), and the looks of the car. It seems like a lot more people can identify it and you definitely get a lot of looks driving down the street.

 

As for the drivability, I can't really comment yet, as I'm not done with getting it to a level of reliability that borders on DDable yet

 

 

Personally, I don't think I'd want to give up my Z, but it's definitely an iconic car that's a blast to work on.

If you like having every mod you can think of as bolt on and love the looks go for it, but if you like an uncommon car, that takes work to get it nice and a car you won't see 100 of when you go to a classic car meet and if you like a car that has alot of character and you can form an emotional attachment to, then stick with the datsun. That's what makes datsuns unique, is that there is no set standard for them, very few aftermarket companies make parts for them and that when you have a good chassis, you have a clean slate to do WHATEVER you want.

It would take something faster than a camaro to make me sell my zx. Maybe a 70 challenger R/T but I'd need about 10 mint z's to get one.

amen...little side story...I LOOOOVVVVEEEE old vettes, and after looking around my woman says "i want a stingray...BAD" (this is october-winterish) then when the weather got better this year and there are tons of them running around with old men driving them (ofcourse) and many at car shows, she says "nevermind ill stick with the 280, everybody already has a stingray," I personally like the first of the vettes but stingrays are alright, only thing is like her and many others, i like being unique and driving a nice Z gets alot of turned heads as well. But everyone knows what a stingray, mustange, etc but i love when people ask...."what kind of car is that?"
