bobbyc
i've been searching for pics of someones rocker replacement. best i found was mull's videos...but they aren't too detailed and are sped up. i'm interested in knowing what all was done to remove the rocker...every spot weld drilled out? sawzall or cutoff disc? it seems the area behind the front wheel would be difficult to disassemble vs just cutting because it all seems to over lap. ihavearustedz
I replaced the rocker panel end only. What I did was clean off the paint where the spot welds would be. Then took a grinding wheel and grinded through the metal till the weld broke, and that way I didn't put a hole in the bottom metal. After everything was off I cleaned up everything to test fit it. It is very important you have the door on when fitting it so the gaps look good. Put some weld-thru primer on it and weld it up. Oh I added por-15 under the panel before I welded it back up. The grey stuff is por 15, and gold is weld thru primer. I hope this helps somehow.
bobbyc
thanks for the reply...i got the rear all apart...it was the front portion...but i found out now if you drill out every spot weld visible it will come part. there is a piece up front that looks like it's layered...but underneath it all there are no spot welds. i'm replacing both inner and outer rockers on this z...it will be completely rust free. HB280ZT
So Bobby C are you going to post any pictures? The reason that I ask is because I will be doing the same thing in a few months! HB280ZT

bobbyc
i never did...i started tearing into the pass side and it was pretty straight forward. i will take pics with the driver side...but it might be a bit. i'm basically tearing down every part of the rocker, sand blasting, coating with por15, and replacing the floor pan. ess
More pictures of rear rocker fix. Wheelarch: spot weld a piece that is just a little too large, then cut both the new and the old in one cut to get it perfect before welding, same trick with the new TABCO parts, spot weld and cut together with the original material. jepherz
What are you guys using between layer where the rocker panel meets the dog-leg? Do you put some sort of sealer in there so moisture can't get in?
bobbyc
i bought some spray from eastwood that has a long hose and a special nozzle. coats the inside of all my pieces once it's welded together.
