Tokico lllumina shocks on ground control? Help

Recommended Posts

I just purchase a complete kit of ground control coilover from my friends buddy car. Its a complete bolt on, onto my car. The thing is that the shocks are blown and I was reading online that I must go with the shorten shocks. Is that necessary, that I must run those? Or will the stock shocks, will just work also. If yes, anyone has the tokcio lllumina part number for the front and rear?

Okay, I manged to took apart the rear coil-over set-up. The shocks from the rear are kyb part number 361001 240z struts, so I'm guessing the shocks are just stock all around? I also got the coil-over springs part number, which is the rear are 1000.250.0150 and the front are 1000.250.0175. So my question is, did he ran all shock factory height struts?

I would check the strut in the front too. I'm not sure about KYBs, but on Tokicos the struts are the same, but the rear has a 2" spacer on the bottom and the front does not. Not sure if the Tokicos are stamped with the same part number or not.

Your Eibach springs are 10" long (1000), 2.5" ID (250) and 175 and 150 in lbs. I would switch the fronts to the rears, but they're relatively soft so it probably won't make a real noticeable difference.

I have contact ground control head quarter and they will charge me 400 just to get my tube section, clean and repainted. Plus they say I will need 4 new bump-stops to support my setup. So my question is, 400 a bit over pricing of getting it section? Below is a picture of a finish section s30 strut tube.

I managed to take off the ground control front coilovers on my front-end, then was able to take out the strut 361002 kyb. So now I'm positive that my friend buddy has not yet section it. I had call techno toy tuneing and they charge 350 for labor work and ground control charge 400 plus tax. So before I jump onto either company, anyone know any local shop here in Sacramento that can section it for me, or any hybridz member that had done this job locally?

You can ask either company to find out where they will "cut" it, mark it and cut it yourself. Then send it to a local machine shop to have it blasted and cleaned (should be like $50 for blasting) and then all you really need to do is pay someone to weld it back on which shouldn't be much. You might save a couple hundred, but I would just go with one of the companies.

I decide to just drop off my strut tubes at techno toy tunnin to get it section for 350. I just went ahead and also order me 2 each of the mr2 and 240z of the tokico adjustable strut. I also wanted to order a set of camber plates for the front, from groud control. On their site, they need to know the spring perch I'd and strut diameter in mm, (top and middle) before I can process the order their. So anyone who has run this setup or no the answer to this, can that person help me out?

If you call GC and talk to Jay, he can figure that all out for you.

From memory, sttock struts (like the 240 front strut you'll use in the back) have a 12mm shaft. The MR2 struts have a 14mm shaft. You need adapters to make them work (they'll include them with the camber plates). You're running 2.5 ID (inside diameter) and so that's the size perch you need.

I sent them an email yesterday and haven't herd anything from them yet. Jmortensen, if you say it's 14mm then will you kno if it's the short, long, most bilstein? Because on their site it has those three option to choose from. I also had call them and talk to one of the guys. He told me to send a picture of my Coilover setup so he would be able to help me out, when I haven't received or gotten my parts assemble yet.

Not sure what you're asking me. Just call them back and ask for Jay Morris. He is the owner and used to race Z's. He knows everything there is to know about how to put his stuff in your car, and is super helpful and a very nice guy. He'll figure out the parts you need.

  • 2 weeks later...

I received my camber plates from ground control yesterday, and i was very please of it. The part I didn't like is that it didn't came with a manual or instruction to install these baby on. Will after installing these on my car, that night i decide to search on google if any of the s30 guys did the same way as I had. Will it appears that someone did it much different from what I did, and mounted there's differently.

(There's)

So does it matter? Or is my way of mounting it is totally wrong?

If you mount the plate on top, then basically you have the surface area of the 4 nuts underneath holding it to the strut top. If you mount it on bottom, you have the surface area of the entire camber plate on the strut top. Some people have mounted them that way and it has been discussed in the past. For my car, I'd prefer to have them underneath just for the safety aspect.
