So this is way off topic but I would like opinions on what the first name on this signature is. I found a civil war photo for sale and the mans last name matches mine. He may be in my family tree but I don't want to pay for the thing unless I can confirm what the guys first name is. What do you think?

short form for lieutenant, Lieut ??

My vote is for "Lieut". Name spellings and abbreviations were far less standardized back then.
