Who tests new brake systems before they are sold to the public?

Recommended Posts

For new brake components, is there an Underwriters Lab type of organization that tests and certifies brake components or systems before they are sold to the public?

Also, does DOT get involved in certifying new brake components/or systems?

Thanks

what do you mean by new components. most of the aftermarket kits offered are just reconfigurations of existing parts that have already been tested and approved for other applications. in the case of the z series cars, i have yet to see a brake modification that didn't add to the safety of the vehicle.

How about that guy who mounted a bolt at the end of the MC to "reduce firewall flex"?

I've seen non-DOT approved SS Braided brake lines go pop in person! I really don't feel comfortable with them on my Z now. They can be kind of fragile. "Fragile" and "Brakes" are two words that should not go together!
