  1. That's fine as long as you have a return line. Otherwise go with their $25 regulator that's usually available behind the counter at advance/autozone.

I completely agree that holley's are pig rich out of the box. Went down a few jet sizes front and rear on both of my 750's.

Do you know if the previous owner did anything to the carb? Can you describe more on how it runs under 2k rpms? Does it idle ok? Does it have a good inline fuel filter?

I plan on routing a return line. It seems to be bogged down under 2000rpm, very labored. It idles great. There is an inline filter back near the pump, not sure of the brand.

  2. OK, so here is the deal. I knew my car was not getting any decent mileage numbers, so when I left my college apartment today to head back to my parents for the long weekend, I topped off the tank.

I drove exactly 80 miles (all highway) running 65-70mph the entire time. I babied it the whole way, never over 3k rpm. My cruising rpm was between 2300-2600 rpm. I pulled into a station and filled up and the car took 6.7 gallons. So as the math indicateds, 11.94 mpg! Ouch

    Here are the engine specs:

    Engine:

    Carb: Holley HP 750

60 over 350, squared, line honed and torque plate honed Keith Black hypereutectic pistons. Speed pro rings. 6" Elgin 5140 rods with ARP bolts. Internaly balanced, clevite bearings, ARP bolts used throughout engine, Dart Pro 1 200cc heads, cast crank, crane cam 228@.05 480 lift. 140 amp alternator, weiand water pump, AZC radiator and taurus two speed fan.

Now I know carb'd v8's aren't known for amazing mileage numbers, but I feel like I should be atleast getting 16 or so. I PM'd grumpy the engine specs and he felt like 18-20 mpg was acheivable.

    Trans is a t56.

The fuel pump is a Holley Red and I am not sure if it is the 67 or 91 gph, but I glanced under the car and I didn't see a fuel return line. Could that be the problem?

  3. I'm not sure all your facts are correct.

Who told you it cost 20k to write a check for $4,500.00?

The dealer probably made more net per car, given the out of pocket was less, and easier to swallow than the normal deal......the BUYER WAS MOTIVATED!, new cars were in short supply (toyota). Not to mention all the back door, volume rebates to the dealer you don't hear about. Ever hear the term "CASH IN THE TRUNK"

The paper work cost was not a major factor. The salesmen stayed late to reap the benefits of the increased sales volume. I didn't hear ONE complaint when they got their paychecks.

At some point there was a bottle neck in dealer payments......I never heard a negative word at my dealer. We sold OVER 900 cars in 1 month. I'm told this is a nation wide record.

I'm not seeing the BIG JOKE?????

Perhaps the joke is the tax payer subsidized it all. Not to mention car sales in the future will be crap. A large number of people who were maybe holding off on buying a new car in the next 1-2 years went ahead with the program and the next few years the sales will be down.
