  1. Yes these all good points but have you ever heard a V12 run (lightly muffeled) though the gears. They sound great. Don
  2. Sounds like a great idea, it will be good to have another way to get the clutch to work. We need more ideas about the ford swaps to keep up with the chevy guys (in number of swaps). Don
  3. anybody have any idea on the above post? Don
  4. I was looking at my 71 stub axles and my set of 83 stubs. What was I was wondering is which stubs are stronger? I have heard how the 240s are not as strong as the 280Zs and break more ofen due to wear and age... The 280zxt stubs are a little smaller around where the bearing rides but they are the same length as the 240 stubs, are they stronger or weaker. Would it be worth finding bearings that fit so I could use these if they were stronger? Just thinking Don
  5. Welcome to the question. I have been thinking about this for two years now and I am close to finding out. I just about have all the engine parts I need but things just keep getting in the way. I know a 302 will fit and a 351 is the same as the 302 it's just a little bit wider and higher so it should work. Height could be a problem as I will be running a victor jr and it might put the air cleaner into the hood. I don't know but I do know I will be building my headers. Don P.S. the 302 motor mounts should work. Use the search function and you will find a lot of info that could help you. One tip, decide on a budget before you look at this board too much. Too many good ideas have lead me to spending more than I thought I would. [ October 30, 2001: Message edited by: Dp351zcar ]
  6. Is the tool for the pin that connects the rear control arm to the strut housing? Or is the tool for the rubber bushings in the control arms. If it is for the rubber bushings just use a blow torch and heat it until the ruber part falls out. After that use a saber saw or sawsall to cut a line in the metal sleeve and just curl it in on itself and take it out. May the force be with you if it is for the pin, I've heard that those can be really stuck. Make it and sell it, if you don't you will wish you did. Don
  7. DaveZ could I ask you do that too. Please. Wow to have the whole see my face hmm. Well it's at their risk to see. Don
  8. Thanks for he info. I think Gore was the one in the background with a baffled look on his face.
  9. Ok I click image and it asks for the url? url what? I know more about how the computer hardware works than the software having been a electronic tech for five years plus all the schooling it took to do that. I don't have a web site so could I have some help please. Don
  10. I think that you can use a flywheel off a 351 windsor because they also use a 28oz balance. A stock 70's 302 flywheel should not be very much, or you could buy a aftermarket 157 tooth steel flywheel for a 351/302 with a the newer smaller bellhousing. Look in the summit or PAW catalogs for the flywheels in diffrent weights and sizes to fit your motor. It will not be too hard to find one. Don

    FORD C4

The c4 is a good strong tranny. I think it would take the 351 power better than a aod would.
  12. I was wondering with all this talk of squat and all the horsepower floating around on this board, do any of these IRS Z's pull the front wheels up? [ October 06, 2001: Message edited by: Dp351zcar ]
  13. the hypereutectic pistons have a higher silicon content. They are cast and not forged. That is about all I think I know them. [ October 05, 2001: Message edited by: Dp351zcar ]
  14. Terry speaking of flywheels do you recommend a aluminum one in a car as light as a z? Don
  15. From what I know (or think I do) on F1 cars the valve is still opened by a cam but closed by N2. It does seem that cams are a bit of old tech but I don;t think that they can control the valve opening well enough at 19,000 RPM to do away with cams yet. I do know someone who would have a better idea of this than I do and I will ask him to see if he knows. The F1 teams don't call me and tell me what they are doing, yet, or more likly never will. bummer
  16. Ok are large main caps a problem or are they there for strength? Is there any problem with a 6 quart pan? I think I will rebuild this thing stock so I can build and run (test) my car and not worry about a high strung 351 (plus giving me more time to build the 351). Thanks Terry Don
  17. I was planning to run one and I have the aod but thats about as far as I have gotten so far. What I was wondering was if the aod would fit in the tunnel with the motor set in so that the cylinder heads allmost touch the firewall. As far as I know the aod will work with a carb. The problem is getting the tv cable hooked up correctly. Don

  19. Yes I am having the same problem I have a t-5 and a aod (4 speed auto) and a C4 (3speed auto). The C4 would be the cheapest but would not be the most fun. What to do, I don't know. I had a GTO 20 years ago and I would swap trannys every month or so (M20 and a T400). If I only had that kind of time now I could really build somehting.
  20. Washington has pased a law that cars 25 years or older are not required to be tested. I get new tabs for my 71 with no problem. I grew up in Tacoma just south of the narrows bridge on the west slope. I know the area well. Don
  21. I have totally blanked out on where and when the show/autox is. Between work, the kids starting school, putting on new siding and painting my house, being a father, tring to work on my z, it slipped my mind. I am a paying but not real active member of zccw. When I get my z running I will be a more active member but I would feel strange going on events in my toyota tacoma. Don
  22. Ross I have a 71 but its not in running shape. All of the suspension pieces on car are finger tight, just so I could roll the car around. The brake setup does sound sweet. Don
  23. Thanks Terry they were there under layers of goo. The numbers are D4DE-6915-A 4D6 Does anybody know what this engine is? I was told it came out of a 74 truck. I was thinking of using this one as a stocker to build my z with then swap it out with the 351 when I can afford to. The wife is starting to talk about a new livingroom set.
  24. Does anybody know where the id numbers are on a ford 302?
  25. Pontiac V-8s are all the same size on the outside 326-455. The size of the block is about mid way between a sbc and a BBS ie a small big block or a big small block. I owned a GTO 20 years ago and I still feel that it is a underrated engine. Don
