Yes I was suprised how well mine worked too. I had the same reaction also, I would just go out and roll it around and look at the car. If yours is bottem heavy now adjust it because if you are putting subs in it will just get heaver on the bottem. Mine is on it's wheels now and I can't belive how much less work it was when the car was able to be rotated like that. By a bunch of scrap no less. Don

I don't know how the about the Z31 but I assume that it is the same as the Z30 because they still had a 6 in them. The 302 can be put in a couple of ways and the AOD fit in just fine I just had to trim the stock tranny mounts off of the sides of the tranny tunnel. Use the search function to find the diffrent ways to mount a 302 in. Try it and if it doesn't fit trim or move something to make it fit. Have fun, I think there are some Z31 with SBC in them and the ford won't mount in that much diffrent, it's just isn't a kit for it. I mean I don't see why a JTR type of mount wouldn't work. Don

From what I think I know 82-3/zxt are the CV halfshafts you are looking for. The non turbo cars I have seen had U-joint halfshafts. I don't know about the 2+2. Don

Gee I thought all the people who drove like that had moved to the seattle area. I didn't know that there were still any left anywhere else. Don

On a 76 280 they are (I think) on the right side of the engine compartment between the shock tower and the battery. They look like plastic modules that you can remove the top. I think that is what these are as I had the same problem on my parts car. It stumped me until I took the caps off and wiggled the wires someone had wraped around the clips insted of the fusable links. Did that and I had power. Hope it helps Don

I went to see the F1 at Indy in 2000 and will be there this year. Unreal is the only word for them fast. TAKE EARPLUGS. They are loud, I have seen several cart races twice as many imsa races throw in a nascar and a few top fuel. Nothing prepared me for the sound, the shriek just goes right through you. It's great. Don early 40s also

Pick up a kit car magazine. I think I remember seeing drive line makers who make custom drivelines and half shafts for street rods. A lot of street rods pack a lot of power and have IRS rear ends. Don

It is as DAW said yes but if you transfer the carrier out you will also need to swap the side stubs(is the name correct)as they are not the same as the old R200 side stubs. The Z32/240sx used CV halfshafts and thats where things start to get tough. I am trying to use the new ones by cutting off the CV cup and welding on a plate that I will drill for mounting up with u-joint half shafts. The car is still on the rotissery(sp?) so it will be a while to see if it works. Don

How much power can a stock 5 speed handle?
Dp351zcar replied to Jwink25's topic in Ford V8Z Tech Board
I talked to Hanlon motorsports about a T5 behind what I am trying to build (a 351 with 450Hp and the word I got was don't put slicks on it. It would be ok on what you are planning to build I think. Don But I have decided to run a AOD. That is if my car ever runs now that I'm laid off work. -
Yep, thats a good one.

The 300zx didn't come with the R230. The 300zxtt did come with the R230 and stouter halfshafts. The 300zx came with a viscous R200 that has a diffrent shape than the R200 of old. Not a direct bolt in. I am working on a U joint solution for the viscous R200 carrier in a older style R200 housing. The viscous R200's used 12mm ring gear bolts so I am going to make some spacers and try it out. Problem is my car is still on the rotissery(sp?) and not getting done very fast so I can't try it. All in time I guess. Don

Terry I think that you replied while I was looking at my dictionary to know how to spell all the words.

Also I have heard that when the car rocks back the wheelie bars hit and take the weight off the rear tires putting more weight on the front tires. It's what I have heard. I like RWD but the wifes camry is nice to drive on trips. Don

If you do kill murphy I would try to do it in front of a police station then maybe his law would allow you not to be seen. That was the best I could come up with to try to get around his laws. Subtract from a negative and it equals a positive (in the old math anyway). I thought about your post and all I'll say out of respect for others is I agree about no president should be directly related to a past president. Don

Yes in a way. That looks like it is a viscous LSD and you will have a hard time hooking up the halfshafts. If you look at the stub shaft that is supposed to bolt to your halfshaft it is for CV's. Use the search function on this board because this has been talked about before and is not a easy converstion. Don

Check your shocks. When I bought my z it still had the stock shocks and and would wobble now and then. Just a thought. Don

The frame holes that mount the lower part of the motor mount are the same in place in GTO, chevelle, 442/cutless, skylark F85.... Those cars used the same frame as did the camaro/firebird. Thats why chev swaps were so easy into other GM cars. I took a BBC out of my GTO when I bought it just so I could put in a (the?) proper engine. No flames please, I mean I am putting a ford in my Z. Don

Yes the pontiac rubber mounts are diffrent but if you unbolt the steel mount that mounts on the frame you can bolt on chev mounts. This just hit me when I was reading this post, are the JTR mounts for a chev just a plate that you mount the steel mount for the rubber to mount on? If it is, couldn't you just swap out the steel chev lower mount to a pontiac and just use the rubber pontiac engine mounts. If anyone could follow that, would it work? The distances to the firewall should be the same because you can swap pontiacs and chevs. Just a thought. Don

What is it with marklines, when you click details it wants a password. I thought that when advertising a product you wanted people to find out all they could about it. Maybe I am missing something besides my brain and not clueing in to what I should be. Don

The street will do little more than connect the events I plan to visit. What I am building the car for is fun! I want to try autox and open coarse track days and drags. I want to try them to see what I like the most, drags will be what I do between the others. Problem with drags is the quicker the car/bike the shorter the track time. Too bad optimal setup for one event will limit the others. I guess thats what coilovers could help with. Don

Hi was the 88 it came out of a white Spl edition? I think it could have been. I have three carriers for a R200, a nissan comp LSD, a plain jane open one, and a viscous LSD out of a 90 or newer Z. That carrier in the picture looks a lot like the viscous one I have. I would be careful about the length of the axle stubs that go into the carrier. One is a fair amount longer than the other. I think I still have some pics of the needed stubs along with the older ones let me know if you want them emailed to you. Good luck Don

Ross C used to have a 3.36 Ring and pinion in a box but I don't know if he still has it. Don

I would use a M-20 not a M-22, the M-20 were a wide ratio box and is better suited for the pontaic torque. I had a M-20 in one 65 goat and a M-21 in another and just hated the M-21. The M-22 has the same gear set as the M-21 (If I remember right, 20 years is a long time). I would try to get a R200 with a 3.3 gear set (I think Ross C has a gear set) And use the M-20 but that just me. Don
