  1. That is what I am counting on.
  2. I used a cut off wheel in a 4.5" angle grinder and it came right off. Wear ear plugs! Don
  3. I am putting a AOD in mine, it fitted OK when I tried it but I took out the Z's old tranny mounts as they kind of hit some of the lugs on the tranny case. The first two pics show a 302 bolted together finger tight to try the fit. The oil pan will fit behind the crossmember and it is a front mount pan. My car was sitting on the ground, so was the engine so the spacing could be a little off. I think it was close as the steering rack was about 1/2 a inch from my balancer and the fire wall about the same from the heads. my rotissery Don

    welding

I have a hobart handler 135 and am using c02 to weld up a subframe and a rollbar. I am learning to weld. If someone would look at the bottom of the car they could see my learning curve as I am welding flat strips to the subframes and the floor pans. That welder is sweet and comes with a c02 regulater (sp?). Don
  5. What is the idle RPM? If you have a big cam in there the idle rpm is high enough to almost lock up a stock convertor.
  6. Did you see the number of posts some of those guys had? The biggest I saw was 13K? So if I get a fiberglass bowtie I will have way too much time on my hands? No flames please, it was just an observation.
  7. I tracked the person who did the work and he took care of it. After I told him the right things to reassure him I was rignt. He just pressed out the pin and heated up the rod pressed it back in. It is in my 302 now it will be a while before I get to test it as I am just welding in the subframes in now. The body is stripped of everything now, maybe someday I will get to hear it run. Thanks guys Don
  8. Discus eggs What kind? I had several different pairs over a period of 10 years but no babys. I had a pair of royal blues that would lay, fertilize and guard eggs only to feast on them after two days. Good luck. Don
  9. Scca I checked out your web site. Your car was at sir this last weekend? Bummer I missed it, I would like to have seen it. I was working on my Z then and didn't hear any action going on at pacific raceways (sir). Bummer Don
  10. For a 71Z I was wondering if anybody can recall what the measurement is between the brake backing plates. I'm measuring for a solid rear to see if it will fit. All my car parts are put away while my cars bottom is on the top. Don
  11. grumpy posted a good reply to someone else who wanted to do this also. Search for it, it was a very good idea and one I had not heard of before(boy thats never happened before) it was good reading. Don
  12. The only part that will swap between the two is the carrier which is a plus as I think most of them are a viscous LSD. Yes they have a 12mm ring gear bolt. Tonight I talked to a friend who has a shop and he said it wouldn't be a problem to make them. The bearings (carrier) and spacers will cross over too. There have been talks about this before so try a search to find out more. The only problem with this swap is you have to use the the viscous lsd's side stub axles, the old R200 stubs won't work correctly. I plan on using this setup, time will tell as my car is on its side fresh welding on it's bottom. A lot of time Don
  13. The R230 carrier will not fit into the R200 housing of any year unless you have a magic wand that works wonders. Don
  14. I had a 83 toyota R22 that did that. I drove me nuts trying to fix it. I would start and run good, it would pull good and idle. It was only in 5th gear at 45 or above under a very light or no load condition put a load on it and it was fine. It turned out to be a spark plug. The center electrode was broken in the center of the plug and it would slide back and forth. When it was in it was even with the ceramic insolator and when it was tipped over it would slide out to the ground strap. I chanded the plug and it ran great. Hope this helps. Don
  15. Yes making them would be easy if they don't need to be very hard. I have looked for the spacers and had no luck in finding them. If you could use valve guides to make them it would be a snap to make them. I don't know if they could take the pounding. Don
  16. Yes they are 10mm. I got a rear out of a 83T and it had 10mm bolts. Is a 83 a z31? I think my 71 is a z30 and z31s are 87-90? Z32 are 90+.
  17. The carrier of a z32 will fit in a older housing the only problem is the new carrier takes 12mm ring gear bolts so you would need one from a 87-89 housing or a v6 200sx. The only problem from there on is the side stubs. On mine I cut the CV cups off and weld a plate so I can bolt up a ujoint half shaft. My car is still on the rotissery (speeling?) so I don't know if it works but I see no reason why it won't work. I'll let you know when I get the car running. Don
  18. A rear diff from a 87 or a 88 should bolt into a 240 with no problem. They were talking about a 90 or newer diff and they are different, it's the side stubs that are causing the problems. The z32 (90 or newer) side stubs are a diffrent length to engage the newer carrier in diffrent places than the old diffs. So there is no easy upgrade path. The z32 diff has a diffrent shape but that is the easy part. Don
  19. Yes and I really wonder how much you would save on a 302 being that are really light already. It is out of my reach anyway I just thought I would post about the dart blocks so the bowtie guys wouldn't think they are so special anymore.
  20. You probably know this but I will say this anyway 2v and 4v = 2 barrel and 4 barrel carb. 4v eq big big ports and I think a 2.19" intake valve. This is just off my head and not off any notes. Don
  21. Here is a link to how a 302 was fit in my Z to see if it would fit with a AOD. A 351 is a 302 with about 1.5" higher deck height but the bottom of the blocks are the same. The motor was a mockup and the car was sitting on the ground. So the motors oilpan is sitting on the ground the same as the front crossmember which was about the right height based how the balancer and front pulley fit with the steering rack. My car Don P.S. A 351 will be going into it after the idea get proven with a 302.
  22. Found this site. fordmuscle.com Now not just the chevy guys can get good blocks.
