  1. I lost the keys to my 78 280z and, of course, the key code tag is missing from the glove box so I have to get the code off the passenger door lock. I have 2 questions. Is the tag on the door itself, next to the lock or is it impressed into the lock? Also what type of adhesive should I use to reattach the clear plastic film?

  6. I did a trip from Az to Ohio when I got my 350z. Since the car was new I didn't bother with any spares or tools, But what I did do was plan my route, found any z car clubs on the way, and was able to go to several meetings. Found that the various members were very cordial and, if you were haveing any problems would be able to help. Just my .02. I would go with the FI if you can get all the problems taken care of before leaving.
  7. I've got a pair of door panels in good condition, recently reupholstered taillight panel, a pair of black door scuffs, and a pair of black door trim pieces. Would take $300 for all.

  11. I am going to look at a 1980 280zx 2 seater that has had a turbo swap from an 83. However the owner says the waste gate is hitting the steering. If so what would be the best fix? Find a non powered rack and pinion or move the waste gate? Which would be the least expensive? Thanks az240z
  12. I Have a 1982 280zxt with a bad tranny. I have found a 1979 motor and tranny that will cost next to nothing. The question is can I put the 79 tranny into the 280zxt and will it work with the turbo motor? What else would I need to make this work? Will the 79 tranny work with the turbo flywheel or will that have to changed? I know I would need an n/a drive shaft but what about the cross member? will the n/a clutch hold up? Any and all comments are greatly appreciated. az240z
  13. no motive just want to be sure it would fit a 1982 280zxt. Your correct on 1352 #, sorry for the typo. az240z
  14. I have found a tranny that is said to be a t5 from a 1984 280zx. I checked the tag# at http://www.5speeds.com/t5/ and it verified this. the tag# is 12-52-047. Did Nissan produce a 280zx in 1984 for the world market and not for the US? az240z
  15. Couldn't fined the injector pulser but I am thinking that the distributor is bad. Hooked everything back up and still won't start. There is still no pulsing from the injector plug. I tried the starter fluid but had the same result. I checked all the ground for the injectors [per the fm] and they were good. The thing that scares me is when I put the new distributor in will it burn up? Well I guess I will be checking ebay for an 82 or 83 turbo distibutor. az240z PS: Just want say thanks for all your help and have a Happy Thanksgiving.
  16. Thanks for all the replies. Will see if Pep Boys carries the injector pulser. Also will try to run down the wiring coming from the ECU. az240z
  17. I have checked everything I can think of and it appears that the injectors are not firing. I think it is the condensor and am wondering if there is any way to by pass it. If you look at the following wiring diagramhttp://www.autozone.com/servlet/UiBroker?ForwardPage=/az/cds/en_us/0900823d/80/1d/1d/80/0900823d801d1d80.jsp. Go to #33.You see where a bw wire comes from the igc and goes to the condensor and then goes to the distributor. I tried to by pass the condensor and hooked the bw directly to the distributor but all this does is burn up the wire and a fuse link. I beleive that this is the problem and am wondering what else I could do or does anyone have one of the condensors. You can see one here.http://img241.imageshack.us/img241/5214/pb0500201xm.jpg thanks for your help az240z
  18. My son has a 1982 280zx turbo. When he bought it it had a rough idle but ran ok. Nothing was done to the car as it was a daily driver and he continued using it as such. A few months later it started running rough, with some backfire and no power. Hetook it to a repair shop where they got running but told him he needed a new injection harness. He drove the car until he went thru a deep puddle and it died. Same repair shop got it running but it ran like crap. Same as above. I know have and have done the following: Replaced the injectors, rebuilt another fi harness with new connectors, new rotor and new dist cap. I have cleaned all the connections and replacrd some of the connectors. After all was done car started up with no problem. It still had the rough ydle but revved up with no problems. After checking everything including repairing of 2 of the new connectors the thing ran ok. I took it for a test drive, everything was looking good until I came off the freeway. The car died and hasn't started since. I have spark, I have good fuel flow but it appears as if the injectors aren't firing. There is power to the injectors, in fact both sides of the injector have power when the key is on but they don't appear to be firing. I tried changing the brain but that didn't do any good. So I am stumped. Where do I go from here. By the way is the spade on the front of the distributor for a ground? Thanks in advance az240z
  19. My son just got a 82 280zxt and it needs a new fi harness. The connectors are bad and it has been cut in several places. Am wondering if it makes a difference between years and if there is any difference between a manual and an automatic? Also would like to know where I can get a good used harness? az240z
