Thanks for all the reply's and I am planning to keep it stock. I realize that it isn't much rust but wanted to get some ideas. I like the idea of putting something over the existing rails and will look into that.

I had this car painted about 5 years ago and it has sat outside, covered, since then. I have a 4" rust hole on the back of the drivers side frame rail. My question is should I replace the whole rail or just have it cut out and have some channel welded in. The rest of the frame rail is in good condition. The passenger side frame rail has no rust but looks as if it was used for jacking the car up. Here is a picture of the rust hole. Any suggestions??

I just got back from looking at a 1983 280zx Turbo Automatic. Car hasn't run in over a year and hasn't been registered since 1997. Forgot to get the mileage but it isn't going anywhere. The only rust I found was around the top of the windshield which is common here in Arizona. The owner is looking for best offer and wouldn't give an asking price. The problem, as stated by the owner, is that the computer keeps getting burned. He said that it ran great but as he was driving the computer started smoking and died. He got another and it did the same. He spoke to a few people and someone told him that it was a diode in the alternator, so he took it to an alternator rebuilder and they confirmed that it had a bad diode. He bought a new alternator, installed it and then started it up, this time keeping an eye on the computer, saw that it was getting hot and shut the car down and it has been sitting since. Looking at the car the engine harness doesn't look good and should be replaced, the cover for the fusible links is missing but the links are there in their original color. My feeling is that it is the harness but am wondering if there any other inherent problems that could cause the computer to smoke. I realize that this is a very general question but need some idea of what it would cost to get it running as I would like to make it a daily driver. Also I don't know anything about electrical systems and would have to take it somewhere to get it fixed. any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Jamal I have a set from a turbo car. Will they work??

I have the lights and two antennas. One has the top of the mast broken the other I don't know anything. I think the former owner said that the motor was bad on the good mast and that they could be put together to make one good one. Will send pics and price info via pm. I also have the top half of an auto shifter from a 75 280Z. Will include them in the pics

I am planning on towing my z. I have an old fashioned tow bar and am wondering where best to attach the bar. Should I take off the bumper and attach there or do you think that the bumper would hold? The z is a stock 78.

71 240z roller, to buy or not [long]

Well the seller is asking $1200 for it. don't know if I want to do aS MUCH WORK AS THIS WILL NEED. I think to do it correctly this would be a rotisserie car. By the way he has a 280ZX 2+2 there. It is in the same condition as the 240z. -
I came across this 1971 240z that has been sitting since 2002. Before I describe , i don't have any pictures, but hopefully my description will be good enough for some recommendations. The car was advertised as a 1973 but the ID plate is stamped 2/71. The inside is completely thrashed. The only thing that might be saved is the console and that is broken in the upper right corner. Dash is cracked, has the alt, speedo, clock. Other gauges are missing. The door panels were redone in fabric but the top part are really faded. They have holes for speakers. The seats will have to be tossed as they are water logged, filthy and stink. Exterior: The car was originally orange but is now faded and oxidized. The drivers side door is ok, has the glass and door handle. Passenger side is primed, missing the door handle but has the glass. The windshield and rear hatch glass look good, the hood has metal louvers on it but is in good condition. Rear bumper is there but the rubber is mostly gone, it is straight and could be redone. The front bumper is gone but there is a front spoiler. The turn signals and canards are in good condition. All lights are there and in good condition. The engine is there. the car has a 5 speed in it but don't know what it came from. The owner says it does run but needs a clutch as it slips. Last but not least and most important there is no rust. The hatch area is free of any rust with the paint in the corners just starting to peel. There are 3 spots approx 3-5" of surface rust at the battery tray. The tray itself is free if any rust. The car is on blocks so I could see all the wheel wells, again no rust,no rust on the firewall, no rust in spare tire area. There appears to be surface rust on the cross members. Even though it was on blocks I couldn't get under the car to check the floor boards but from what I could observe they were solid as where the frame rails. So what is this car worth? The seller says it will run with a new clutch. Does this make it worth more? Is there anyone here who would want to buy it? Thanks for looking.

Can't the local z club give you recommendations as to where to get estimates? -

Got in an accident... What to do :(
az240z replied to Cutlass372's topic in S30 Series - 240z, 260z, 280z
I had a similar problem with my son. He had a nice 1986 300zx with under 80K when he got into a left turn accident. These are very common here in Az. Although the acc wasn'r his fault, the other driver was cited, the ins company offered him 50% value for the car. I told him too ask for what he paid for the car. They went back and forth until I told him to get some adds from autotrader and the paper showing what cars were selling for. The ins co finally settled with him for 95% of what he paid. The only mistake we made was not requesting keeping the car. so do a little leg work, don't be an a**hole with the adjuster, be reasonable in your claim and you should be able to increase their offer. -
Gettting a 1976 280z soon, not in the best condition.
