  1. DC to DC transformer (Actually 3 in one circuit). Also called a DC to DC micro ATX PSU. I suggest using a solid-state HDD. Regular driving conditions might cause a standard HDD to crash over time.

I would also suggest a solid state HDD. They have 4 gig plus USB drives now and most of your newer motherboard BIOS today allow for removable media boot devices. I know it can be done with Windows, although I'm not sure of that process myself. Linux on the other hand I can make do cartwheels and is my planned route of attack. I figured with Wine or one of the other crossover type apps I can get my tuning software for the TEC3 running easily enough. Everything else is simple Linux. Anyone interested in understanding Linux and wanting to learn more then any one person should know about it, check out Gentoo. It's simplistic, adaptive and the forums are incredible.

  2. Well I came up with my name as a variation of Lead Foot. My Dad used to get the occasional call from the Highway Patrol to either come and get me outta the emergency room after a crash or to warn him that the Trooper I outran was sure it was me, but didnt get a plate#:D ( I had a knack for unusual easy to identify cars, Like a red 1964 Comet Cyclone in 1985, or the 351w I slapped in a '75 Gremlin in '84 and the 440 Mopar '53 Studebaker PU I built in 87 after almost 2 yrs recovering from the crash of the Comet (flipped it 7 times on Halloween day 1985 running from the law @ 130+....) anyway

I had a knack for oddities and little respect for authority.... still a bit of a problem for me @40yrs old I admit.:banghead:

But Dad would get in my face and tell me my Lead Foot was gonna get my young ass thrown in jail or killed so when I got my first CB my name was Leadfoot. Years later I started building legitimate race cars for myself and called the Team LedPhoot Racing using the variation of LED from "Led Zeppelin" one of my favorite bands, and just to keep it interesting Phoot for foot.

My only other nickname has ever been "Jukebox" because I'm a Karaoke nut and sing all types of music. The DJ at the club where I sing gave me that name and it stuck with many of my friends.

My Exwife calls me Bastard:malebitch and my new wife calls me Boobie when shes h*rn*y :eek:or somethings broken or there's a spider on the wall...LMAO!!!:lmao:

You know it's funny, cops in NC still can't drive to this day. I spent a lot of time in high school with flashing lights fading away in the rear view....

  3. When I was in 6th grade I played a lot of role playing games and online MUDs. For my first D&D game I ever played I made a mage character and called him Naviathan. No idea where the name came from, just popped in my head and I've used it for everything because it's unique. It's kind of odd now, here I am 14 years later and I still have the same screen name and explaining it to people gives me some odd looks.

  4. What do you use to sonic clean fuel injectors? I thought about buying one of these jewelery cleaners for my wife and I thought maybe I could buy two and use one with parts cleaner to clean fuel injectors. Would that work? Or is there a certain type of sonic cleaner to use on car parts?

  5. I know carfax has no clue about old car VIN numbers. My 1970 comes up with nothing. Their computer records only go back so far, and they don't like numbers that don't follow the current convention. Like HLS30.....

Maybe the car is just too old. Check with you state motor vehicle association.

Nah, the limit on carfax is 85 I believe. That's when they went to a national standard on VIN number length. It should be coming up.

  6. I'm not a Ford fan, but I bought my wife an 89 Ford Ranger XLT with the 2.9l V6 because it was cheap. Runs great and I only paid $400 for it from a guy I work with. We've had it over a year now and I had to have the front pump seal replaced on the tranny. Aside from that little incident this truck has run great and hauled everything I can think of. It gets good gas mileage, especially if you keep your foot out of the pedal and it's comfortable.

  7. Ok but if I drive around and get the car completely warmed up then stop at say a gas station or someplace where I'm only going to be there 30 minutes or less when I restart it acts like it's vapor locked and the temp gauge reads well over center gauge for about 30 seconds until everything gets moving again.

  8. Ok I started checking through the FSM and although it's for an 82 not an 81 I think I may have an idea of what's going on. It appears the only way that fan can kick on while the car is running is if the ignition relay for some reason opens signaling the ignition is off to the fan motor timer unit. No I just need to find all these components and figure out what the issue is.
