  1. What do you mean by (4500) after the 3800? (I don't know anything about auto trans but I hope to learn). What tire pressure you using most often?

4500rpm meaning that, it could go to 4500rpm if needed. The shop that built it for me told me it could go (stall) to that number. 10 lbs on the slicks.

  2. wow..... what kind of whp are you putting down?  that is moving you and boatman

Then it was 843 to the back tires. We took the car to the Dyno a week ago and turned the boost up to 25lbs of boost and made 945HPto the back tires. We took it to the track last night and it went a 5.43 @135 Mph in the 1/8th it got a little loose on top end, I think there is still a tenth or two left on the table.

  3. I hate to say this because, it might be the kiss of Death. My car is a 76 280Z, I am running the stock stubs with the 300zx turbo cv axles, and MM companion flanges. I have been running my car hard for 12 years at the track ( Drag strip) and killed my share of halfshafts but did go a 9.21 @ 153mph, I switched to cv axle and ended the problem. I have been a 8.67@158mph with a 1.37  60' with this setup. The only problem I had was when I went from a 28X9 M/T slick to a M/T 275/60 Drag Radial Pro. I leave at 3800rpm on the trans brake but with the Radials I snaped both cv axle shafts. I went back to the slicks and still no problems as of yet. This works for me ,so if it not broke don't fix it. Just my two cents. I do have travel limiters on the rearend to keep the axles from getting in a neg angle.

  4. About to get the ball rolling on this kit finally. Been pricing materials and coming up with pricing. Right now we are looking at roughly:

Aluminum Mustache Bar with bushings and bolts: $200

Uprights (New and improved design from the pictures I have posted): $400

Strut Tubes to go with the uprights, ready to put on aftermarket coil over pieces( Can be setup for Koni's, Bilsteins, or any other strut ): $120

    Front Diff Mount: $125

Dog Bone(Rear LCA Mounting point drop down): $75

Axle Adapters(I make flanges and weld them on, Explorer rear axles can be sourced from Ebay for $100 a pair, this price does not include the price of the axles): $250, $350ish by the time you buy the axles

Rotor Hat(The center bore needs opened up for the Intrepid Hubs): $25 + Cost of rotor hat

Total Cost for custom parts to do the swap: $1195

Now none of these prices are final, and hopefully I don't regret posting these, but I know many of you are interested in what this setup will cost, and this is a rought estimate. The odds are this is pretty close to right, but I won't know for sure until I begin to build them. Some parts may get cheaper, some may get more expensive.

Now as far as the front diff mount goes, we will see how this one does, if it ends up being an issue then we will go from there. There isn't really a good way to package a diff mount for these short nose diff, everything ends up acting as a lever. My diff mount that I've been running for the last year only bolts to one side of the tunnel, and I welded it on. If it were me, I would put a couple of stich welds on the front side of this diff mount. The welds would be easy to cut off if for some reason the mount ever needed to come out. But the mount is setup like the RT mount, it isn't in the way of anything, it should never need to come out again. If this mount was welded in, I don't see any issues with it.

Even though I'm out of school it seems like I'm still crazy busy, but I am hoping to start making some pieces next week to get this thing rolling.

Will, Thanks for sharing your build. It is a Awesome build. Thanks Jerry

  5. Well we ran in the stock block race two weekends ago and ran into some issue's. We were getting misfires at upper rpm range. Further checking and we found the issue. It seems the valve springs have gotten weaker and we do not have enought seat pressure. Easy problem to fix, but not going to rush on it. So it looks like we will not be doing the Import showdown at Reynolds. If we have had a better response / turnout of fellow Z members then we could have the issue resolved in a weekend. I told my brother Jerry not to sweat it because of the poor response. Plus we will save our money on getting recertified etc. Just wanted to pass this on.

    Thanks,

    John

  6. I live in West columbia, SC and my brother lives in Lugoff SC. Here is the Bowman drag strip website url: www.bowmandragway.com

It is off of I-26 heading toward Eloree SC. Reynolds GA is about a 4 to 4 1/2 hour drive for us.

The stock block race we will be in is at www.darlingtondragway.com/‎ which is close to Florence SC.

Both of these tracks are really slack on certs. Bowman does not have tech, Darlington does have tech but are not that strict. Reynolds is very strict because thay are a IHRA SANCTIONED TRACK.

    Let me know.

    John

  7. I understand Warren, see where you are coming from. Rebekahsz, we will have to get our cage recertified and new seat belt harnes to be in cert as well. gogriz91, I checked out the znationals but if I am not mistaken it looks like it is for street cars, we are aways from being streetable but not impossible. We would probably win the dyno pull if they let us enter.

We are still a little ways from October 19th so we will see, also if we do not tear up before then. We will be running a stock block competion this Saturday at Hell to Pay II at Darlington Dragway 09/28th.  They also have a run what you brung competion at Bowman dragstrip on October 19th as well that we can enter if we do not go to Reynolds, so just not sure what to do with this unless the turn out will be better. At our local tracks they are not as strict as Reynolds.

    John

  8. Sorry yall can not make it. I am not sure if we are going since I am not getting any response to roll call, we will have to see. I just thought it would be Great to see everybody again but I guess everybody is busy or has lost interest. Only about 24 days left before October 19th. Hopefully we will get some interest built up. It is just too bad we can not compete, we do not mind spotting some 4 cylinders / 6 cylinders a 1/10th or 2/10ths just to get some good old competition.

    Thanks,

    John

  9. Time is getting closer. I did research more about the Import Showdown October 19th at Silver Dollar Raceway. The track is being rented by the import guys, the rules for the track still apply. To me it is just like SEZ and DNI did. All the profits go back to the car club. They are allowing all cars to run with the exception of V8 cars we will have to run in the TNT (Test and Tune). I was in hopes we could get in some competition but they do not allow V8's to run.

We are still hyped about going and seeing everybody, we just do not want to make a 4hr trip and no one show. Below are the rules for the Import Showdown talking about the number of cylinders:

Rules That Apply to All Classes
    · 3, 4, 5, or 6 Cyl Vehicles Only or those with Rotary motors. V8 can run TNT

I hope this does discourage anyone from coming.

I guess it is time for Roll Call.

Please let us know who is planning on attending. We had a pretty good list going / chiming in. This will dictate if we head down Friday afternoon to meet up with everybody or just go directly to the track on Saturday.

I will check in with the guest Hotel about rates again if anyone responds back on the Roll Call.

    Thanks,

    John

  10. We had a GREAT time at the track,The first pass I tried to launch the car at 3000 rpm not using the bump box, it turtled out to about 60' then it started making power. The next two passes, I prestaged brought the rpm up to 3800rpm (which is the normal launch setting) and used the bump box ( Davis Technolgy ) to turn the second bulb, on it makes the car jump hard, and then let the transbreak button go.We were down about 100hp. I did a compression check yesterday and all is good, then installed new plugs. I will take it to the Dyno next week to try out a couple of ideas.

  11. Guest motel / hotel Information:

I checked with Warren and he said we use to stay at the Comfort Inn in Byron GA. I searched and it appears now it is a Quality INN. Same place just different name. I asked about the group rate and it is $53.99 per room, need at least 3 rooms rented to get this rate. I think he said normal rate was $69.00 per room.

I will call again in September closer to end of month an re-verify this. Counting down the months and days. Getting closer.

    Thanks,

    John

  12. Went back to track last night. Entered in the Stock block competition. Jerry replaced the cv axles and put it back the way it was with the slicks. Made a shakdown pass and engine was poping on the other end. Pulled some plugs, checked fueil pressure etc. Did not data log that pass, Went to make another pass and was stopped and backed up from the bunout box, leaking fluid. Later found out a fuel line feeding the passenger side fuel rail had development a hole and was pushing out fuel. Replaced fuel line. Did not have time for another pass before competition. Won our 1st round, off our et by 3 to 4 10ths. Cooled it down and getting ready for our second round drew cards abd we had to get the card matched up against a camero bid turbo, big tire car running alky. I think he was the fasted of the cars. Well Jerry cut another good light but had to let out of it at the end, engine breakign up poping. Probably some bad plugs on the passenger side due to being lean from fuel line problem.

Hats off to my brother for excelent driving and almost perfect R/T he was cutting down tree on the pro tree.
