  1. Wow impressive! What was the 60' and 1/8th? Ive been 8.27 before and it sure feels good. Whats this about toyota calipers? I replaced mine years ago with new orig. 260z parts, brakes are not to bad but could be better I also have a 9" out back with disk though. Congrats

    Ryan

Thanks,The 60' was a 1.39 and the 1/8th was a 5.61@128, the car has been a 5.58@130 with a 1.37 60'. The Toyota calipers is a cheap up grade for front brakes, you can check in the brake forums.
  2. Went to the track last night and had a great time, but we had to deal with some suspension Gremlins, but on the 3rd pass we went a 8.67@158 which is a new record for us. I have been wanting to get in the 8's for a long time. Some of you may know the car but for those who don't. It is a 1976 Datsun 280 Z with a 355 sbc with twin 67mm turbos F.A.S.T. fuelinjection on E85, the rearend is the original unit with a 3.54 gear ratio, but I am using the MM companion flangs so I can use the 300zxt CV axles. Stock drum brakes on rear, and stock stub axles ( I know I am CRAZY).The R200 is one tough BEAST. But I am using the 4x4 Toyota calipers on the front brakes. I hope by year end to go in the low 8's. I could not have done this with out the help of John my Brother, Jerry Boatwright and Chris Tuten. John will be posting videos in the next day or so. Jerry

  3. That hurt, hate to see the carnage, but at least you can put a ultrabell housing and salvage the trans.Good Luck!!!! Tomorrow, I will be getting our Z ready to go to the track Wednesday night. I went to a 16Volt battery and changed the front and rear travel.I hope to go even faster. Jerry

  4. Hey Mike,

My brother Jerry has two pair of the Hooker Comp headers for the z car. One set is our old one's and the other set is coated. Not sure if they will work for your setup or not. They worked fine for us. Since we went with a turbo setup we are not using them anymore. If you are interested in trying before you buy you pay shipping I am sure he would let you try them. PM him if you are interested.

    John

  5. Great job guys! I have had the pleasure of hanging out with these guys (John and Jerry), I have to say their craftsmanship is outstanding. Congratulations guys!

JnJ, does Boatwright still have the silver bullet?

    Adam Silver

Thanks Adam, Boatwright sold his Z , but now he has a twin turbo mustang that goes in the 4's in the 1/8th.You need to stop by sometime. Jerry
  6. Congratulations John and Jerry on your 5.58 at 130mph in the 1/8th mile and we know there is a lot more left in the car .. Before you run that beast of a Z through the ¼ mile you might want to install a wing ( for the down force ) and a parachute ( to help get her stopped) as mid to low 8’s at 165 to 170mph is right around the corner… It just shows what a lot of hard work , and a little bit of money can do when you guys built it yourselves. Your Z looks great and runs killer fast...Keep up the good work with your Z !!!!!!!!! :2thumbs:

Thanks Jon, I am now working on upgrading the brakes, I only plan on running the 1/4 a few times, most of our tracks run 1/8 th only. I will probly put a chute on it in the future. We still have about 10lbs of boost left in reserve and will use it here shortly. I enjoyed talking with you the other day and good luck with tis season. Thanks again Jerry

  7. You can use Autolite racing plug AR### whish is short. If you are tuning and need to read the plugs then use NGK racing they also come short and have a chrome like finish and are easier to read. They come in different heat ranges so you will need to know what range you need.

    John

    Hi Guys,

I recently took delivery of this 350 based 240Z and have been sorting out a number of issues. I'm getting ready to pull the plugs. Thus far, I've learned it's running:

Dbl hump heads, 268H Cam, 625 AFB carb, dual plane air-gap w/1/2" spacer, wrapped headers, MSD Pro billet distributor with a 6AL "sparkie" box. (all new stuff). The initial timing looks to be 16 deg.

The PO has installed Accel 576S plugs (short header style). I've never been a fan of this brand. I know our options may be limited due to the tight header and heat related issues.

So, what are my options in keeping with the "shortie" or header style plug?

    Happy motoring today!

  8. The third run looks REALLY quick coming out of the hole. The car just leaves. Now. Amazing!

The car even looks good too! :)

    Davy

Thanks Davy, the first two passes had 1.39 60' times and the third pass was a 1.37 60'. Chris told us last night by looking at the data the last pass should been around 8.40 @ 162mph. I am have a few things I am going to change on the car, nothing major, just experimenting. I think and hope we can pick up a few more tenths, I hope. Thanks again Jerry
  9. We were only running 1/8 mile and letting out of it and coasting through the 1/4 mile. Based on out last run we should be deep in the 8's in the 1/4 mile.

    John

    :D

Excellent! Man, that's exciting and already almost into the 8's after just three runs. I'm wondering just how fast this car is going to be?! Thanks for posting the results.

    Davy

  10. Wow, nice runs! If you took video, I'd love to see it.

John will be posting the time slip and videos in the next day or so. Thanks Jerry

Here is a photo of the time slip of our last 3rd pass. I will be posting video on youtube tonight / Friday.

  11. Well we went to track tonight for the first time in two years. The car and motor did GREAT!!!! The first pass was a 5.89 @119 mph in the 1/8th rolled through the 1/4 at 10.00@91mph, second pass turned the boost up and went a 5.74@125mph and rolled through the 1/4 at 9.54@103mph and the third pass we turned up the boost to 18 pounds and went a 5.58 @130 mph,and rolled through the 1/4 at 9.25@106 mph. We had a great night. I would like to thank John(my Brother) and best friend, Chad,JB, And Chris Tuten for all there help. John will be posting the time slip tomorrow. Since this was our first outing with the twins I decided not hang it out through the 1/4 but maybe next time.Jerry

  12. right on, did you upgrade your stub axles also when doing the cv swap? what are you running for the suspension up front if you dont mind??

I am running stock stubs,so far so good, and CARQUEST brand stock struts on all corners, I do have limiters on the frontend,so I can adjust the travel. Jerry

  13. Hard to get used to the new smooth hood profile, no big blower is kind of like losing that timeless pin up girl posing on the hood.

Enjoying the evolution with you die hard Z fanatics. Track numbers will be great!

Yea, it has evolved, but I feel like it is for the best, but now I can see the christmas tree with out leaning over in to the passenger seat. With this new set up I hope we can run faster ,by bring in the boost when we want it, and ramp it up as well.

    Thanks Jerry

  14. This car is simply bad ass! On your old setup were you just dumping the trans brake on the half shafts? with a manual I broke a few with my car until i installed some bump stops on the struts, Now i have a trans braked th350 however i am kinda scared to try out the trans brake because it will leave me stranded at the track if all does not go well.

Thanks for your reply, the glide that is in the car now is the first with a transbrake.I made limiters for the rear struts so when under hard launch the shafts are straight with no negative angles. This prolonged the life of the shafts but after10 to 15 passes I would have to replace the ujoints. Since we now are using ,and have been using the 300 ZX Turbo CV axles for 3 years ,we have had 0 breakage, knock on wood. Thanks Jerry

  15. Car looks fantastic....as do the power numbers. Looking forward to seeing videos of the beast.

Thanks Turbo Meister, John should be posting videos of the dyno pulls tonight, and we will be posting videos when we take to the track in a couple of weeks.Boost is a wonderful thing.Jerry

  16. Hell yeah... Wow... I'm so jealous... I hope to be starting on a boosted 5.3 here before long. Have almost everything I need piled up already. Gonna do a big single on fac rear and see how far I can push it. Miss seeing you guys at SEZ...

Great to hear from you, have you talked to Rip lately?I talked with him about a year ago. I still have the turbos he gave me,and I was going to use them but the build kept evolving. So I have the two Holset turbos and I bought rebuild kits for them if you know any body needing them. Good luck with your build. Jerry
