  1. Bummer, I hate breakage. My brother Jerry in on vacatio but I will let him know what happened if he checks in. He is on a cruise.... We had our drive shaft built and had nt had any issues. I will ask him what ujoints / flanges he used. So far we have not broke ours. Just the CV's.

Hopefully it is only the drive shaft, and yes drive shaft safethy loops really do help in other breakage to a minimum.

  2. This is the solution to my diff mount loosening itself.

2 pieces of 1/4"x 2" strap welded to the crossmember. Seems to have eliminated my nasty 2nd gear wheel hop as well. I hope I don't have to take it out, because it was a PITA to put in..... even on my buddy's lift.

    Looks meaty enough, great idea.

  3. Congrats on the build. Can't wait to see it in person. You should have no issue acheiving your goal with the weight, I think out Z is about the same weight if not more. Maybe we can all get together again in reynolds GA. in October. I am sure my brother Jerry will be chiming in also. He has had some bad luck with his latest change on his Z car, but this is racing. Kudo's to Scottie also he does great work. Have fun tuning and please keep us posted.

  4. SunnyZ-my main priority at the next night at the track is to play with different shock settings on my Illuminas. I'm gonna start with the fronts on 1 to allow as little rebound dampening as possible. Rears will be on 1 for first run, then I'm gonna go to 5 in back then work back down. I had some bouncing in back with my rear shocks on 2. My 60' times were poor and I noticed on video that my rear is bouncing and I'm breaking traction on shifts. Gonna try to video document since it all happens too fast for my eye to catch it. Gonna paint a stripe on my sidewall to monitor spin.

Where did you get your Illuminas from?  I tried to order front and rear some last Month and could not find any. Jerry

  5. This build has been a inspiration to me, I found it yesterday. I would like to get the excell  spreadsheet and would be willing to pay you for it,to help out with the build. Thanks for all your hard work and willingness to share your information. Thanks Jerry

  6. Look into the Ford 8.8  conversion........ It seems to me that it is more stout and can take a beating.  That and the fact it seems to be the best bang for the buck at this point.  I have something in the works using that rearend.......Talk to Sunny Z he and Wfritts are using that set up......

I will send SunnyZ  and Wfritts a PM, Thanks Jerry

  7. Jerry,

If anyone knows the R200 is pretty strong it's you. Are you looking at other diffs because of the supporting hardware (halfshafts and stub axles) or because of the strength of the diff itself? I wasn't aware that you were actually breaking diffs!

Joe, the R200 and stub axles in the car is the original ones from the factory, I plan on going faster with this setup ,but just seeing what is available. several weeks ago at the track I went a 5.57 @ 130mph with a 1.38'  60' and a 3.74 at the 330', The last pass of that day is on you tube called Remdemtion pass, I went a 1.36  60' and a 3.66 at the 330' but had to let it go because it was heading toward the center line, that should have been a 5.40 something pass. The car is kind of hard to hold, so that is why I am trying the Drag Radials for stability and driveabilty. I won't to keep the car IRS if at all possible. I made a comment along time ago that just about anybody can go fast on a narrowed rearend, but I think it is cool to go fast of stock stuff. I will be trying the car again in a couple of weeks to find out if the CV axles were just fatigued. The car is back together and I have another spare set of axles on order. Thanks for your reply. Jerry

  8. I just got off the phone with a friend who knows a guy that has a 280z with the infiniti rear conversion already done. I am going to go by and look at the setup. I want to keep the IRS system in the car. I already have a 9" setup ,but do not want to cut the car up. But I learned along time ago never say never.I will go back to the track in a few weeks with the new 300zxt axles(OE), and try it again, and if breaks try something else, or change the setup the way it  was before and keep racing. Thanks for all the replys and information.Jerry

  9. I guess what I was trying to get at was: what was different in your setup that made you break? You are kind of my idol for doing more than anyone else with a R200. Do you think it was a setup change that caused it or just power and repetitions? I have modeled your suspension limits from your suggestions and stayed with bias ply, but I hope to go from 435 tq to over 600 next year. Attentively watching your every move.

When we talked on the phone I told you I was using two strut cushions per side, which came to 4 7/8" height, so I made a set of aluminum  spacers. So there is no travel down, and I put limiters on the rebound too. That was the changes to the rearend. I talked to my Dyno guy ( Chris Tuten ) and he said it could have been fatigued over 7 hard years of use.

  10. I think SunnyZ got his last set thru The Driveshaft Shop. Was that the first time on drag radials? What torque do you think you were making at that rpm/boost level. Sorry you broke- bad feeling. Love your axle restraint system.

Thanks for your reply, I tried Drag radials 5 years ago but could not make it work with the blower motor, but I only tried them one test session. I was leaving on 3 pounds of boost not sure of the torque . The motor made 843 to 847 @ 20 pounds of boost at the rear tires. I took all the travel out of the rear. With the rear with 1.5 travel and slicks I leave on 7.5 boost @ 3800 rpm, car ran a 5.57@ 130 in the 1/8th with a 1.38   60'.

  11. I just finished making some changes to the rear suspension, and add 275 MT Drag radial pros to the mix. i did the burn out and staged the car. I put the transbreak on brought the rpm's up let the TB go and the car moved one foot. I broke both 300zxt CV axles. I have had these axles in the car for 7 long years without any failure. I am changing them out today with my spare set. Does anybody know are used any after market (Performance) CV axles companys?

  12. Lets get the word out, I will try pming everybody that I know of and see if we can make this happen. Please do the same. I can try to organize something once I get a head count I can call the motels and see about lodging and maybe a special rate and can also contact the SilverDollar track and let them know that Members of Hybrid Z will be attending the import shoot out.
