  1. I've got the lash pad, it was just sitting in there, it didn't look damaged... i'll go ahead and get the 1 retainer for now... i'll eventually be replacing the whole thing with an L28et anyways.
  2. Awesome z. My favorite color, and one of my favorite wheels... How did you mount the sideview mirrors by the way?
  3. I keep seeing these aluminum valve spring retainers on ebay, http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/TOMEI-Aluminum-Spring-Retainers-240Z-260Z-280Z-Datsun_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ34202QQitemZ4578408866QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW it says they "increase the rev limit.", because they're lighter, but that doesn't really make that much sense to me though, [any truth to the claim you think?] and, should i be concerned with the durability of aluminum retainers vs. chromoly?
  4. Can i buy 1 valve retainer and 1 lash pad? or do i have to get a whole set? If so wherecan i get one.
  5. I'll give you a little background..I just got my datsun, and we haven't fired it up yet. [The guy we bought it from said it ran didn't run good [the spark plug wires weren't on the right plugs [fixed], one of the spade conectors to the distributor was disconnected,[missing],[not fixed yet] and we don't think it has the right coil. [it's too small for the bracket] And i just discovered a new reason why it didn't run good... I opened up my valve cover yesterday for a shakedown, to see one of the rockers off, I tried to put it back on and discovered this: The deformity of the valve spring retainer won't let the lash pad sit in there correctly, my dad suggested using a dremel to shave out a little so it could fit. Would that work or do i need new valve spring retainers? Would it work for maybe just a temporary fix? Is this a sign of bigger problems? And maybe you can help identify the coil. Thanks.
  6. i found it... it was hidden by coolant hoses, it's an L24... i got my hopes up.....
  7. Ok, the head is an e88, and the block number was on the driver's side right near the motor mount. it said [022] (in a little box like that) and then, p30 25108. which block is it?
  8. Well, not exactly, it's just that it's not the original engine for the car. The numbers on the Vin plate don't match up, and i'm trying to find out what year z the donor motor came from, the numbers on the block say, 022 P30 25108 heres a pic of the engine: the carbs tell me that it's from a 1972 or older correct? Also it has a dual point distributor, what car is that from?
  9. i saw a pair on ebay, a while back, i don't remember how much they went for though
  10. That has got to be the nicest Z i've ever seen. I saw the 3rd pic of it, surfing on google, and that is pretty much exactly how i want mine to turn out... i have the pic on my wall... Kicka$$ job man...
  11. How do i go about setting up an oil catch can? Also, I saw a picture of someone just running a filter off of the pipe on the block too, how does that work? *edit* plugging up all the holes on the balance tube is ok right? lemme see if i got this right, breather on valve cover, holes on balance tube plugged, and oil-catch-can [or filter] on pipe on block...
  12. I just removed the smog pump and related hoses/pipes/tubes etc... and i was thinking i can plug the hole in the engine block where that pipe was with a freeze plug. will any problems arise from this? does anybody know the size freeze plug i'd need off-hand? if the freeze plug doesn't work, what are my options? Are there any smog things i need to keep? what do i do with the elbow on the valve cover? a breather?
  13. I know exactly what you're talking about, Ron, i was sitting at my table eating lunch, and I looked at one of those big packs of water bottles we had on the floor, and it said 240z on it. i was so confused, i couldn't stop thinking why that water bottle pack said 240z on it, turns out, [if you haven't already guessed it] that it was actually 24 oz [ounces] then i laughed at myself for being so obcessed about datsuns...
  14. How much smaller is the vintage air setup? The ARA system is big, and i'm not too sure of it's effectiveness...
  15. This question is for people who have shaved their drip molding. Are there any prolems that arrive from this? leaks or anything? Because i think the car would look a lot cleaner without the drip molding. [plus mine was dented on the passenger side]
  16. I have a '71 240z that came with the ARA a/c it's not hooked up, the compressor was gone when i bought it. i know i want a/c back eventually, so my question is, am i better off getting a completely new a/c kit from MSA, and removing all the ARA stuff, or should i try to piece all of the ARA system back together? What would cost more? what set up is probably lighter? thanks.
  17. does anybody have an idea of where i can find the gasket's that go in between the hatch vent and the hatch? mine are deteriorated.. i've looked at my victoria british catalog, msa online, and on ebay, should i just keep surfing ebay, or is there any other place that might have them? and, are 1970 replacement hatches hard to find/expensive? thanks

How long did/is your frame up restoration taking you?
  19. I searched but i couldn't find anything about engine pullers, what kind should i use? the pulley on your ceiling, or one of those little rolling cherry picker type ones? what kind do you guys recommend? what point do you pull an l24 from?
  20. I just bought my "1972" 240z for $1,000. hehe http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y98/hansonicochico/MYDATSUN008.jpg take a look at the vents...this was advertised as a 1972 z the only thing that was bad was some rust under the battery and on the pass floor, the framerails were pretty solid thogh. it's an auto so i'm gonna switch it out to a 5speed, and this thing will see an l28et sometime in the future... now i need a job.... http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y98/hansonicochico/ sorry no pics of the engine yet...
  21. LOL it won 3RD place at a show, the category, 2 door honda WILD... makes you wonder...what did the winner look like?
  22. holy *^&% it actually is metal...... http://www.takebacktheave.com/Mike.htm#
  23. i searched. i was wondering it's possible to do an l28et swap into a 240z without having to get it smogged, my idea was to use an l28 block from a '75 or '76 280z, and adapt all of the l28et stuff to it. would it work? [compatible] would it not have to be smogged?
  24. Now isn't the economy going to be crap there once this is all over because of all the stolen goods?
  25. right now i have a choice... http://www.craigslist.com/eby/car/94632669.html http://monterey.craigslist.org/car/94000813.html i know i want a 240z but i kinda want a 1970 240z...i'm gonna be needing it for a daily driver, the '73 has been used for just that, a daily driver. and i plan to do an l28et swap later... what's the better candidate?
