  1. not only that but there are sooooooo many. think about it, they put them in everything, avalanches, silverados, suburbans, tahoes, elcalades, even work vans i think....the list goes on....i mean how many suburbans and silverado's do you see a day...when compared to ls1 powered cars.
  2. this thread from ls1tech.com will tell you all you need to know about swaping the ls1 intake on an lm7 vortec engine. all summed up you just need to slightly modify the water pump and move around the pulley heres the link with good pictures: http://www.performancetrucks.net/forums/showthread.php?t=357424&highlight=ls1+intake
  3. i believe the iron block is about 79 lbs more than the aluminum (ls1) block according to my engine manual (ill have to double check that). the aluminum 5.3l engines are pritty hard to find and when you do are rather expensive (still less than an ls1). i would just go with an iron block. they are easy to find and very cheap' date=' iv seen them for less than $700 with 50k miles. i even had a guy quote me for $1200 for the engine and trans combo with similar mileage. im going with an iron block because im gunna turbo it sooner or later. you could maybe fit it in but i would swap the oil pan atleast because of ground clearence. much cheaper if you bore out an lm7 you can use ls1 internals, i have confirmed this with people on the ls1tech forums. the rods and crank in an lm7 are exactly the same rods and crank in the ls1. the only diffrence is block material and bore of the block (and obviously the intake, waterpump, and oil pan).
  4. what about these http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/HID-Xenon-Conversion-Kit-H1-H13-H4-H7-9006-9007-195-99_W0QQitemZ8042748757QQcategoryZ36476QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
  5. man i alway have to do a little extra....first i get the 4 piston calipers and disc but have to wait for a space....then i get a rear end but have to get the half shafts machined...it never ends. anyway how do the late 280z get around this problem as they come with r200's?
  6. im a little confused. if they are the same size then why do i have to shorten them?
  7. Found some info with a search but not a definitive answer. I pulled the rear end out of a 280zx, not sure exactly what 280zx it was but I do know it was a r200 with 3.9 gears (from the markings on the ring). Any who, I have the entire rear end (diff half shafts etc) and was wandering if I could use the half shafts in my 240z. I know the r200 will fit. From what I have found it looks like the 280zx half shalfs are just a little too big. If this is true is there a way I could shorten them where the split is and much is it too big?
  8. hey guys, as i mentioned before i just got my 5.3l lm7 engine. i havent yet got a wiring harness but was looking at this: http://members.tripod.com/~grannys/3LS18.html is the wiring for the lm7 similar, like are the colors of the wires the same. i really would like to do the wiring myself instead for payine 700+ for a stand alone harness. -marcus
  9. got my engine today, its chevy lm7 5.3l sb gen III. i know that im gunna have to change the oil pan (its huge). which ls1 oil pan should i use, the corvette's, the camaro/transam, or the GTO's oil pan. looked around, they all seem to be about the same amount. im gunna try and stick with the intake from the 5.3, dont know if ill be able to cram it in though.
  10. whats the easiest way to upgrade to 5 lug. iv looked around and the hubs from modernmotorsports look good. am i correct to say that it only includes the front? also i just ordered some toyota 4 piston calipers. will i have to use a diffrent rotor that the 4 lug ones everyone is recomending. i havent oreded the rotors yet so with the 5 lug setup which rotors should i use. any other companies out there making 5 lug upgrade kits? thanks *damnit can someone move me over to the brakes wheels section.
  11. ok im pritty sure im gunna go with the ground control coil over kit but i have some questions about coilovers in general. iv been doing alot of reading on this site and on other sites about coilovers. it is my understanding that the wieght of the car seat the springs. but i cant understand how that in anyway can be safe. take for example flying over a hill at high speed. couldnt that unseat the spring and damage the supension. from the coilover faq i got this " 2. Extra effort when lowering the car from a jack or lift to ensure the spring is properly seated in the upper spring perch." how is it still safe to use coilovers?
  12. Alright so i basically know what im gunna do with my 1972 240z. iv already ordered some parts including Toyota 4x4 calipers and decided that im gunna go with an lm7 in terms of drive train. I know im going to get very tight spring for handling, basically this car is gunna be a car for speed and handling, not comfort. So while I was getting all these parts and ideas I got to thinking about ABS, not that im seriously considering it but what do you guys think about it? It would make a lot of sense in a small car like this. How hard would it be to transplant an ABS system out of an early model Nissan. The only thing I think would be tricky is the abs sensors on the spindals but think it would be possible.
  13. well speaking of nice LS1 swaps, i saw qwik240z's z in person and was very very impressed with how clean and simple his set up. very very well done setup. the car was all around the nicested z iv seen and i hope mine looks half as clean when im done. i give him props!
  14. you dont mean all stock turbo cars do you? just Z32tt...
  15. my friend got a 200sx for free and we spent all day beating the crap out of it (shooting at it, smashing the windows, doing maddddddddddddddd burn outs. well anyway he is just gunna send it out its way to the dump and i was wondering what parts i could use out of it. its a 1989 200sx with a V6. does anyone know what kind of rear dif they have? R200 maybe? also i noticed it had a 5 lug bolt paturn and disc brakes all the way around. surely there is something i can use. btw i have a 1972 240z with no rear diff or drive shaft.
  16. wow thanks guys. this helped me out alot, even more than the faq cause of the pictures. i have a good idea what im gunna do in terms of brakes now.
  17. so since 35 millimeters = 1.3 inches these are basically the same thing right? : http://www.ezaccessory.com/.sc/ms/bdd/1111448059662947/983716/nc/ee/175/Wheel%20Adapter%204%20Lug%204%2E5%26quot%3B%20To%204%20Lug%20100
  18. i saw this car and was wondering what size wheels those are and where they sell and airdam like the one on it. http://album.hybridz.org/showphoto.php?photo=1184&cat=500
