  1. I know this is probably a bit more than you want to do, but....I once saw one with a twin turbo 2JZ. It was absolutely hilarious. You could do an RB25...
  2. 22 here. Bought my first Z at 18. Fugly faded green/primer 76 Z. Sold it after buying a 350Z, and now, 7 Z cars later, I have a '71. It was my first real car, since I'd been driving an SUV for a few years when I got the 280Z. These things are my Corvette, if you catch my drift. Some guys collect Corvettes, or GM F-bodys, or what have you. I collect/keep Zs. Right now, one Z. So there you are.
  3. Perhaps I misrepresented myself...I do know that the weight transfer is what causes squat; when the car launches, the center of gravity is pulled rearward, increasing load on the rear suspension, thereby causing squat. Not that the squat is somehow actually causing the transfer of weight. Inertia, i.e., "an object that is in motion tends to stay in motion, and vice versa" is the underlying cause of weight transfer and thus squat. My original statement: Our debate was regarding what causes squat, and although I asserted that sure, torque can cause minor squat (such as your 280ZX example), the vast majority is attributed to weight transfer, especially in drag racing. Of course, I admit I may be wrong, but I'm not perfect and I certainly don't know everything! In any case, I think the point is well taken. Squat is generally caused by the transfer of weight to the rear of a car during launches or acceleration.
  4. I have to agree with JMortensen, as far as the auto car goes. The rear tires try to spin, and failing that, they transfer their torque to the surrounding components and induce a slight squat in the car. However, my argument was that in the bigger scheme of things, squat wasn't a detriment, but rather a boon to those in search of traction (EDIT: Let me say that I'm speaking in regards to drag racing, specifically). The type of squat I was referring to was induced by weight transfer, where the weight of the car goes to the rear, presses the rear of the car into the ground, and allows for traction by loading the rear tires/suspension. I also asserted that any perceived "torque squat" was controllable by spring rates as well as damping rates, and was, therefore, irrelevant in a performance car. Am I right or wrong?
  5. A friend and I have been engaged in a little friendly debate about suspension squat. The long and short of it is that I believe that the majority of suspension squat is caused by weight transfer, while he believes that the majority of it is caused by the engine's torque pulling the rear end into the car. Which of us is correct/more correct?
  6. Have a friend with a '94 Supra making 620 at the wheels on a stock block 2JZ. Highest recorded horsepower on a 2JZ was 1930, I think. I may be mistaken, but IIRC, that was an aussie tuning company that used a stock block JZ. Yeah, I'm a Supra guy. I have three.
  7. Are you with AT&T or Verizon? Those companies require data plan, IIRC. My iphone uploads pictures just fine. Email me one, if you like, and I'll post it for you from my photobucket.
  8. Sorry, guy, but I think we'll need more info than that to help you out. A picture would be the most advisable thing, if you can get one.
  9. I could be wrong, but it seems that they're called Ronal "Kleeblatt". They are supposedly rare, and were found on opels and volkswagen beetles. I thought for sure I'd seen those before, but I wasn't positive. Hereis a link to a UK ad for them. Apparently they're rather sought after by the Euro crowd.
  10. I'll have to take a couple pictures. haha, it's pretty stock and kind of beaten up, honestly. I found another in a local junkyard, so I'm nabbing fenders tomorrow, I think. I'll upload a pic here in a sec.
  11. Don't overlook the 7MGTE. With a few (no brainer) mods, they're good engines, and they aren't that expensive. I'm using a 7MGTE, Aisin R154 5spd trans (from MK3 supra turbo), and hopefully an R200 diff.
  12. I hadn't realized that Ferrari built a few four seat cars. What were they? I'd like to see them!
  13. Hey! I have an '89 GTI! It's a four door, though. I think it's a GTI, anyway. It's got all the nifty GTI stuff and badging.
  14. Not a fan of the shooting brake style of car. It's not a bad design, just not pleasing to my personal sense of the aesthetic. This particular car reminds me a lot of the M-coupes, partially because of the fact that they're both shooting brake style cars, and as such are rather rare. Few alternatives to compare to. It's an interesting concept, although I'd have to say it seems to depart from Ferrari's design ethos quite a bit. A four seat Ferrari? Sounds like a four door Porsche. Panamera, anyone? I'd always believed Ferraris were meant for the fellow that cared nothing for practicality. It would seem to me that a shooting brake Ferrari speaks of a need for practicality. Ferraris aren't practical. Nobody, save maybe Bill Gates, DDs a Ferrari, four seats or no. Just my .02. /long winded.
  15. Ahh, well. I'm in Mississippi, so the car's rust free. As far as the VR6 swap, I'm not sure if I'll end up doing it or not. The engine that is in the car is freshly built (saying 10k miles is really pushing it), and I'm not sure if I want to ditch the fresh 16V for a VR6. I'm contemplating just slapping a set of knockoff BBS mesh style rims and lowering it. Maybe a roof rack or something. It's intended to be a daily driver, at least until my Honda's finished.
  16. It's EFI. I had a CIS Passat once. The car's rust free, but has a few dings in the fenders. It's in really nice condition, all in all. How difficult are VR6 swaps?
  17. Cleaned up one of my SUs. Pic! Now that it's all prettied up, I just need a kit to rebuild it. *EDIT* And stainless steel screws to get rid of those ragged things.
  18. So I picked up another car today. An '89 VW Golf, four door. It's got a bunch of GTI stuff on it, Recaro GTI seats, etc. Anybody ever owned one? The PO says he's had a few problems with it. Got it in a trade for a DSM I had. I'm pretty sure it has a 16V engine, but I'm not sure what to look for. It's also an auto. I'm not terribly concerned with modifying it, since I have a Honda Civic (92 Hatch) that I use as a DD, but I thought it might be fun to tinker with. I'll post up pics tomorrow. Anyway, so what do you guys think? And I know... Tomorrow, promise.
  19. Ack! Well, I'd be happy either way to have a spoiler of some sort! I'm pretty good at fiberglass and composites work (I built prototype aircraft, once upon a time), so it isn't an issue for me! Send me a PM about it.
  20. Shut it! I want it! My car's RHD, I'm the uber JDM fanboi here! Gimme! I give you 7 million and chinese food chain! No, seriously. Want to sell? I'll have to kill Modern if he gets it, and then put it on my car.
  21. I picked up a 45000 mile all original old lady owned 86 AE86 Hatchback, GTS, for 300 bucks. Sold it five months later for a good bit more, and have sorely regretted it ever since then. KEEP THE COROLLA. They're getting incredibly difficult to find. Z chassis aren't especially difficult, or expensive to find. It goes along the lines of "Everyone has owned or knows someone that has owned a Z". I know of one local, mint interior, rust free shell for 500 bones that needs nothing but an engine dropped in and a motivated driver. Just an example of how easy these cars are to find, if you aren't too picky.
  22. Hey, guys, I'm needing to reinstall my dash...I'm using the factory Series1 harness, and everything's all...well, I'm sure you know. I've tried to find a harness diagram, and have thus far only been able to find several broken links in the sticky. I'm changing a few things in the car, but for now, I just want it to do something when I put a battery in the car and switch it on. Bear in mind that it's a RHD car now, so physical locations are, well...reversed.
