  1. Sorry, never heard of Cable Cars Ltd. You might want to check with Jim Simpson http://www.simpsondesign.net/ since was the owner of Blue Ray Engineering who made the Rhino.
  2. zvette - Congrats on getting the car! I don't think you are going to be very impressed with the hood hinges. They are just a piece of box iron that bolts on to the body where the original hinges fastened. There is a flange welded on and a hole drilled through the flange. Looks like an h with the bottom part closed. The hood also has a fiberglass flange (with a hole in it) sticking down. A bolt goes through the holes in both to form the pivot point. Very crude. BTW, I have a drawing of the original hood hinges. Also, I did not use the hood hinges for my car and have an extra set.
  3. Yup - used the CWK-2441 kit on my car and it worked great EXCEPT the door seals. We have been telling Precision that their door seals need to be metric and softer for years but they won't change. Use genuine seals for the doors and this kit for the rest and you should be OK.
  4. I think all current Formula 1 engines are flat crank V10's.

  6. If ya got the bucks I think these guys would build you one http://www.finesportscar.com/ Or maybe you could talk Mark Smith over at Factory Five (yeah, the Cobra, etc. kit car guys) out of his http://www.factoryfive.com/table/company/tour/phototour/250gto.html The story of the second set of factory GTO molds is fascinating but to long to go into here.
  7. TomoHawk - I think you might want to be a bit easy on the guy. Have you ever seen a real Ferrari 250 GTO in person? I have fooled quite a few "car guys" with mine too. Yeah, if you really know your GTO's it's easy to tell but: a) Most people have never seen a real one They were all hand built and everyone was different c) As racecars they were modified all the time BTW, a few of the cars were built with roll up windows (S/N 3527 and 330 GTO S/N 4561. Some did not have a Perspex vent on the rear window (S/N 3527). The car was delivered from the factory without outside rear view mirror so the racing team could place them where they preferred. Most of the cars were delivered with completely blue seats (if you want to call them that). Yeah, hand hammered aluminum and then painted GTO’s were not very shiny when new but most of them sure are today! An aluminum-skinned repo will cost you around $250,000 or more http://www.carclassic.com/html/FERRARI-250VINTAGE.htm#250GTO so I will give the guy credit for the extra effort spent to make it closer to the original than most, (including mine). Maybe I'm just jealous! PS - Don't assume that he opened the hood at the show.
  8. Impressive modified Rhino Ferrari 250 GTO but also pretty expensive http://www.kitcars.com/Classifieds/AdDetails.asp?classified_id=1272
  9. Yeah, a little shiny and it's not even clear coated. Just PPG Deltron (Polyurethane) Ultra and a lot of elbow grease. I'll agree that Speedracers car looked a little bit like the old Ferrari 250 Testarossa but I don't think it was based on anything real. BTW, you can have a kit of it if you are interested. http://www.speedracer.la/
  10. Here's a couple of pictures of my GTO from this site: http://www.hybridz.org/Review/0002/Ferrari_GTO.htm Let me know if you need any help with yours zvette and good luck! PS - Here's a more recent shot of my car.
  11. The front clip is one piece (except the hood) and bolts on using the original Datsun fender mounting locations. You do have to move the mounting flange back a bit because the fiberglass is thicker than the sheetmetal. Don't forget to pick up the manual.
  12. HI Tom, I would keep an eye on eBay because at times you can find a deal. However, here are a couple of places you can get them from: Ferrari Parts Exchange http://www.ferraripartsexchange.com/ Italian Car Parts http://www.italiancarparts.com/ International Auto Parts http://www.cybercars.com/mnfr/intlferr.html Discount Emblems - John Rudl (613) 733-7742 Black Bart's Emporium, Inc. http://www.black-barts.com/ Hope that helps!
  13. Sounds like a good choice to me Kurt8394 and yes, last time I talked to Jeff Krekeler (the owner of Stable Autoworks) he said anybody I refered to him would get a free dash. Please check with him to make sure the offer still stands. Good luck on your car and let me know if you need any help or info along the way.
  14. I don't have a hood latch but I needed a small distributor to fit under the Tri-Power air cleaner on my SBC so I used the MSD small billet distributor part number 8570 http://www.msdignition.com/ I also used the MSD 90 degree wires and it makes for a nice tidy package.
  15. Oh, and to answer your other question - I think the Alpha 1 GTO is the best looking but I may have a slight bias !!!! http://www.cardomain.com/member_pages/view_page.pl?page_id=236622 http://www.hybridz.org/Review/0002/Ferrari_GTO.htm Since you can't get the Alpha I'd go with the Stable Autoworks version (it's an Alpha with a McBurnie nose).
  16. Yup, I think Tomahawk Z pretty much has it covered. Here is a link to Stable Autoworks http://www.zcarkits.com/ If you buy a body tell Jeff I sent you and he will throw in a free GTO dash. Thunder Ranch (Tom McBurnie) can be found here http://www.thunderranch.com/gto.html No link to Puckette but Eric Neyerlin has some pics over at ZParts http://www.zparts.com/inprogress.html
  17. I don't know where the best prices are but if you enter the 56120 part number here http://www.hparts.com/part.html it comes up as a "cylinder, tailgate" which is probably the right part.
  18. Lucas (the Prince of Darkness) makes turn, stop and tail lights that look a lot like the Ferrari ones. They are used on many Cobra and Sebring (Austin Healey) kits. They are not $3.00 but a lot less than the $140.00 for the real ones. Here is a site that has some pics. http://www.cobraaccessories.com/f-catpg11D.htm
  19. I first bookmarked their site over two years ago but have never talked to them. It is obviously based on the Eagle/Alpha kit so I wonder if anybody knows how it got "down under." John Washington might - are you here John?
  20. Thanks Chelle and yes, I think it would be great to get all the GTO replicas together. It would be fun to meet each other, compare cars and stories. I'd suggest somewhere in the middle of the country to make the driving easier. BTW, here's a new current picture and a couple of old shots of my car. It pays to have someone that knows what they are doing with a camera take the pictures! http://www.cardomain.com/member_pages/view_page.pl?page_id=236622
  21. The part numbers for the Ferrari style door pulls that many of the builders used is Honda part number 056120-9 or 83303-674-013. BTW, I have copies of issues 2 & 3 of Terry Watson's "GTO Replica Register." Issue 2 has the blueprint for the mounting bracket. I used these on my car and, with some adjusting, they work quite well. Just make sure you can't lock the car from inside. I'll reload my scanner software in the next couple of days and see if I can get the blueprint copied. Some of the information in the GTO Replica Registry is a bit dated but much of it would still be usefull to owners/builders today. Maybe we should see if we could find issue number one (I think Terry turned everything over to John Washington), get them all scanned and post them on the web somewhere. What do you think?
  22. Wow Chelle - are all those yours? Two Alpha 1 GTO's and - is that a 208/308 GT4 Dino ??? Impressive! Do me a favor and post a reply in the "How many of you are building Ferrari 250 GTO kits?" thread as we are trying to keep track of all who are, or have built a Ferrari 250 GTO replica. Thanks
  23. I haven't seen the law but the statement "and kits cars that represent cars 30 years and older" is what got me. The way I read it is that you put a 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO kit on a 1978 Datsun 280 it would be exempt.
  24. Saw this in the latest Autoweek and thought some of you guys in California might be interested: Clearing the air A new California law allows owners of previously registered kit cars and replica cars to qualify for a “specially constructed†designation that exempts cars 30 years and older—and kits cars that represent cars 30 years and older—from emission testing. The program is limited to 500 specially constructed vehicles per year. http://www.autoweek.com/cat_content.mv?port_code=autoweek&cat_code=carnews&loc_code=index&content_code=07606322
  25. I told you to STOP SPINNING THOSE FRONT TIRES!!!
