Somebody asked a while ago what a black Ferrari 250 GTO replica would look like - well, here's your answer...........WOW!!!!! http://www.kitkar.com/image.php?image=/images/kbf2003/116.jpg
-
BTW - Dayton Wire Wheel http://www.daytonwirewheels.com/index1.shtml has 72 spoke real knock-off wire wheels designed just for the Datsun/GTO replicas. They are 15" with Datsun adapters and they have the right offset so they look (and fit) right on the kit. Also, if anybody is interested, I used Dunlop P205R70’s up front and P225R70’s on the rear. http://www.cardomain.com/member_pages/view_page.pl?page_id=236622 http://www.hybridz.org/Review/0002/Ferrari_GTO.htm

I'd stick it in this http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2413310308&category=7251

Ditto - mine are Dayton's as well and they don't have a spline in the center of the hub. They are splined on to the large backside of the hub to the adapter. So it's kinda hard to explain - I think you have to see it. The way they are splined allows them to handle much more torque then having the splin in the center of the hub. Also, the knockoffs or right and left hand threaded so they tighten as they turn. You install them with the supplied lead hammer and I have never had one come loose. They tell you to check them after 25 miles and the at every 100 miles for the first 500 miles but I have never found one loose. http://www.daytonwirewheels.com/

Has Anyone built a full-tube chassis v8 240z?
SpeedRacer replied to a topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
There are pictures of a full tube frame chassis in the Arizona Z catalog but: A) I don't know if they manufacture it anymore Even if they did most people won't deal with them -
Trim rings around headlight covers of GTO buckets
SpeedRacer replied to jbeech's topic in Body Kits & Paint
Hey John - The VR uses the same headlight covers as the Alpha (I have John Washington's headlight covers on mine). The Stable Autoworks nose is based on the McBurnie kit and the headlight covers are different. I don't think John has any trim rings but it won't hurt to ask. I think he usually paints the outside of the cover with silver paint. He will probably tell you that many people have tried to make trim rings over time and I think you will find them very hard to find. I had Jim Simpson http://www.simpsondesign.net/ do mine. He actually uses a self-adhesive, chrome wheel opening molding. He then fabricates four stainless and aluminum mounting brackets for each cover. Sounds a bit funky but it works and looks great. -

Looking for recommendations on TALL Valve Covers!!!
SpeedRacer replied to Mikelly's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
They ain't cheap but I always thought that Mickey over at Inglese made some interesting SBC valve covers http://www.inglese.com/inglese_products.htm -
I would go with electric pump mounted back by the gas tank. And..... if you used the JTR method to mount your 327 SBC, the stock mechanical pump will not fit.
-
Jim Simpson http://www.simpsondesign.net/ might be another source since he sold the GTO kit (called it the Rhino) and is still in the business (although he sold the GTO molds to Stable Autoworks). So..... you might want to check with Jeff at Stable Autoworks http://www.zcarkits.com/ as well. Having said that, I thought that the McBurnie, Simpson and Stable Autowork kits used '60's Corvette hood hinges moumted on the radiator core support. It certainly could be that you have a modified McBurnie but are you sure your car is actually a McBurnie?
-
As usual, the real ones cost a bunch but see if you can talk Jim Simpson http://www.simpsondesign.net/ into making a pair of replicas. That's where I got mine and they are first class! Also, he provides a second seat - one for the hood and another for the fender. This way, when you turn them 90 degrees to open the hood they can sit in the seat on the fender and will not dent the paint.

bj1785 You might be interested to know that we have a Kit Car club that meets the third Monday of every month at Julliano's Restaurant which is located at 27380 Van Dyke in Warren (just North of 11 Mile Road on the East side). The meeting starts at 7:30 PM but most of us get their early to have dinner and talk about cars. Here's a link to our web site http://www.usol.com/~hutch/ Hope to see you there.

BTW the Ferrai horn button is quite large and uses a different horn assy then the standard Nardi. It uses the lager Anni type http://www.sportscar-parts.com/nardi.htm horn instead of the smaller Classico type. It's weird because the Nardi Classico horn button is actually inserted inside the Anni type button. Another guy you can try is Jim Simpson http://www.simpsondesign.net/ and see if he can find you a used one.
-
Sorry, search here for " Horn Button" http://www.allferrariparts.com/parts_list.cfm PS As usual with real Ferrari parts - you won't like the price.

I got an email from Jeff just the other day. Yes, he is still in business so they him at jeff@zcarkits.com

Skillet - I got it here http://www.ferraripartsexchange.com/steeringwheels.htm Once in a while he has a repo but they are getting rare since they don't make them any more.

How many of you are building Ferrari 250 GTO kits?
SpeedRacer replied to SpeedRacer's topic in Body Kits & Paint
Hey Paul Collins - I'm a'gonna steal your avatar!!!!! -
zvette - I have an original Alpha 1 GTO assembly manual that you can borrow. However, you are right though, the original manual wasn't very good. I would ask Jeff over at Stable Autoworks http://www.zcarkits.com/ to sell you a current one. I think it's only $25.00.

BTW, one of Joe Alphabet’s Alpha 1 GTO's can be seen in the movie Delirious http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00005V9HW/qid=1045934959/sr=8-5/ref=sr_8_5/102-2984283-6499313?v=glance&s=dvd&n=507846 Somehow John Candy gets in it and drives it. There is actually some pretty good footage of the car on the road. Joe also loaned the car to the Hardcastle & McCormack for a two hour special. Supposedly a washed up race car driver was street racing kids with his Ferrari 250 GTO down Mulholland Drive. I caught it on TV but never could find a video of the episode. When I visited Joe to buy my kit he was fixing up the car in his shop because the movie company beat it up pretty bad. The one thing I remember was that it had an old 650HP Formula 5000 (302 SBC) in it with four Weber 2bbl carbs lined up right down the middle of the intake. It looked awesome!

Actually, the Precision kit is pretty good except for the door seals. I used the complete kit on my car and it worked out great. It's a huge bag of rubber! All the seals fit and work well EXCEPT the door seals!!! I ended up using the factory ones. Quite expensive but it's better than slamming (and I do mean SLAMMING) the doors all the time. A lot of other people have had the same problem. Also, there are a few of the odd ball smaller seals missing from the kit. If you need them then just pick them up from MSA or a dealer.

Here is a link to the old HybridZ site (which I think will go away soon???) http://www.hybridz.org/Review/0002/Ferrari_GTO.htm No, I did not lower the car but I started a 1971 240Z which was lower than the later Z's (by about an 1" I think) because it did not have to meet the bumper laws. Currently, both the front and rear measurement from the rocker panel to the floor is 7". I used P205R70x15’s up front and P225R70x15’s on the rear. Be careful in the rear with the wheel opening. The mold seems to be off and there is less room in front of the right (passenger side) rear tire than there is on the left side. So, do you have a V12 in it yet?
-
My guess would be that this car is "Ferrari" red http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2404148445&category=7251 See how it looks a bit on the orange side. It doesn't matter if it's metal, plastic or fiberglass as long as you use the same primer on the whole car. Remember, my car is fiberglass except for the roof, hatch and cowl panel and you can not tell the difference. http://www.cardomain.com/member_pages/view_page.pl?page_id=236622 BTW here are some pictures from the Ferrari GTO 40th Anniversarymeeting http://www.barchetta.cc/All.Ferraris/events-stories/events/2002/250-gto-40th-anniversary-meet/250-gto-40th-anniversary-meet-gallery/ There is a real pretty dark blue one in there.
-
FYI, Here is a link with pictures of the real GTO's http://www.barchetta.cc/english/All.Ferraris/summary/SN.250.GTO.62.html Innes Ireland raced a black one that became the lost GTO - yeah it was actually found in a farmer’s field in Texas with weeds growing up through it! IMHO Ferrari Rosso Corsa is to orange so (please don't tell anybody) I went with Porsche Guards Red. I can't get to the Stable Autoworks site right now but Jeff has a nice picture of his GTO kit in black. http://www.zcarkits.com/

240z Griffin radiator mounting
SpeedRacer replied to ImportRacer's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
I paid Griffin $425 including shipping and had to wait about two weeks for it. Yeah, I wasn't too keen on using the L-brackets on the tanks of the radiator except Giffin says they build a lot of them that way. Also, mounting it solidly with L brackets is the way Nissan did it on a stock Z. I think you will find that the radiator core support in a Z is quite stiff. I've been running it that way for four years now without any trouble.
