  1. change of plans, the n/a rearend is in rough shape, are the turbo and n/a input shafts the same, can i swap the flanges?

Hey guys, i have an 82 turbo, automatic for now.. and an 82 na donor car, (currently sitting on its side as im stealing the five speed out of it haha) had the donor car for a few years, loved driving it but it was to far gone. came across my good 280, guy was selling it to get a car for college, so i traded my sunfire for it. in the process of fixing some minor rust, putting in the five speed, and working on getting a z31 ecu for it to run nistune. and finding some fenders as i hit a bear a few months ago and the other side is rusty.. hoping to have it done in the spring

  4. i know where i can maybe get a z31 ecu, but does it need to be a turbo one are they different other than there tune of course
  5. thanks, i am thinking im going to go with ms2, i have the haynes and original nissan sevice manual aswell so i should be able to figure out what to tap into along with the internet
  6. i am looking into megasquirt, do i need to go all out on ms3 or is ms1 going to do everything i need it to, this is no big budget build or anything, and what things do i need, i know i need the sensor ring and a map sensor, but what other thing do i need, do i need a stimulator or relay board, i have considered a z31ecu or a wolf ecu, but the stock ecu is still very limited, why upgrade my super nintendo when i could get an xbox for less is kind of my thoughts on that. but what is the best option for somebody who knows little about fuel injection, i live in a small town, where i own the only 2 Zs that i know of and i dont know anybody with any knowledge of these things. i live in a town where its all about trucks, copenhagen and camaros. or civics with a cold air intake haha. how hard is it to set up one of these
  7. im working on finding a megasquirt setup so that is where my gains will be

The water/meth is going to soak up the heat either way pre/post turbo, either cool hot air out of the turbo or keep air cool in the turbo, an if i can increase my turbo output and stop itfrom working against itself, i have a parts turbo and if im eroding the inpeller ill rethink my injection setup and put my spare impeller on, but 30 or 40 percent more turbo efficiency sounds good to me. also i was wondering if anyone knows anything about polishing the inside of compressor housings?
  9. stock cars have intercoolers not water meth injection (for the most part) because people these days dont even look under the hood once a year, if you have a head on your shoulders its not a problen, i do have exaust, kinda, glass pack and gutted cat, im not building a race car, i dont need a bigger turbo for what im doing unlessi win the lottery or something

  11. i have an 82 280zx turbo, manual boost controller, just wondering what my options are for a cost effective ecu upgrade are. i am looking to add water meth injection soon. i might be ableto get hold of a z31 ecu,what would this require to install. also idont really understand megasquirt..
  12. iv heard that aswell but iv also heard many people say the opposite, that if the mist is fine enough it has no affect on the turbo other than greater efficiency as the turbo is pushing out cool air and doesnt have to work against itself, im still researching the idea but considering im pushing the stock turbo to its limits, if i can do it pre turbo without wrecking anything it seems like a promissing idea. i may just do it after the throttle body but im toying with the idea anyway

I have an 82 280zx turbo, mostly stock other than boost egt afr gauges and a homemade boost controller, i am currently looking at the snow performance water meth system, planning to inject pre turbo, no intercooler, just wondering what other mods i will need and the amount of boost i will be able to run ballpark.i have been running 11psi bone stock on 90 octane with no issues so far
  14. i mentioned the tires just to say that it had some abuse from the owner before me, a friend of mine who wrecked the syncro aswell, not the brightest guy. im using the whole na driveshaft and rearend so that should all work. im new to datsuns, but not to working on cars, so im sure i can pull it off, i have access to a press, pullers etc
  15. thanks allot roger/randy. i am planning to put the whole rear end, driveshaft etc out of the na in anyway as it has the 3.90 gears insted of the 3.54s. i do plan to put a whole new clutch pressure plate throw out bearing etc into the turbo car. the 5 speed shifts very nice with the exeption of second gear, which needs a syncro, is a rebuild kit something i am going to able to find easely and a local parts store or will i need to get it off the internet or something. also, what is the model of the na 5 speed, all i can find about it is that its a nissan 5 speed, a full rebuild is the plan for the 5 speed as it has 270xxx old man kms on it,(the last 500k used up 3 sets of rear tires). i know they revised the rear suspension in 81 or 82 or something, but the cv shafts should be the same right?
  16. the na's were different? will it still work? if so am i going to blow the tranny apart, im running 11psi of boost aprox 225hp. i have had a hard time finding any info on the na 5 speeds

I have two 1982 280zx'sone turbo with an auto in good shape, and one 5 speed n/a (parts car aka the flintstone mobile for good reason) rust has absolutly raped this poor car, why it was $100, it is in running condition mechanically.. foorboards not so much. and i am looking to put the 5 spd in the turbo, any insight, advice or known complications would be very helpful, thanks
