  1. Mmmk, problem solved. It's the C-13 connector right behind the alternator and in front of the oil filter. I cleaned the contacts and it was good to go. I think I'll be cutting that connector out soon and putting in a new one. Bah!
  2. So I was searching the forums and I found a post with somebody who had exactly the same problem I did! Wow!! And then I realized it was my own post from a couple years ago! So, this problem has come back. New ignition switch doesn't fix it. I get the solenoid click. Battery cables/connectors are clean and new. New starter relay (yeah, that was a fun item to aquire from the dealer). I started to trace the little wire that connects to the starter solenoid. It goes to the C-13 plug behind the alternator. From there it goes into the firewall and I can't find it on the other side. Thoughts?
  3. Yeah, but I don't really want to scavenge parts off my existing engine. I'd like to sell/give it to somebody eventually as a whole, ya know?
  4. Hey, I'm looking for a good condition oil pan for my turbo swap. Any 81-83 turbo oil pan should be fine. Please let me know price and shipping to 32506. Or if you are in the FL panhandle area, I can come get it. Thanks!
  5. So there hasn't been a solution to this aside from the work-around? I have the same problem. I replaced the relay under the dash. It's a double relay, actually. It controls the fuel pump and...uh...I don't remember. Anyways, replacing it did nothing. I'm still in click, click, click stage and having to start it with a screwdriver. Not very good for dates, you know? But I don't want to install a new switch. I want it to work the way it's supposed to work. I checked the wiring from the little yellow wire connected to the solenoid all the way back to the firewall and into the big green connector. It's fine. It's something between the big green connector and the key. Help?!
  6. Wow, never before have I posted anywhere asking a question and received such a distinctly uniform response! Amazing! I guess I'm going to look into the Dodge Cummings! A couple of you commented on the different engines/years having better/worse aspects to them. What would you say is the ideal year range? Are the new ones with the 6.7 that bad? 6.7? Jeez, that's big!
  7. Hey guys, I just did some searching about towing two cars on a flatbed and I found an old post of mine asking about towing a Z with a Cherokee. Hah, funny what you run into when you search sometimes! Okay, here's the question. In the next 6 months to a year I plan on buying two new vehicles. A Lotus Elise and a pickup. I'm going to keep my Z and I'd like to be able to tow both the Elise and the Z on a flatbed. I'm probably going to be moving once a year on average and I'd like to be able to move everything in one shot. That said, I'd like to have a pickup that is somewhat reasonable to drive to work now and then -- something that gets more than single digit fuel economy. I'd love to get a 4 door Tacoma, but something tells me that isn't going to cut it. Can you guys suggest some trucks to look into? Thanks!
  8. It's not all talk. I know exactly how difficult it is to make CF parts because I have a lot of experience in the aircraft industry. The reason nothing ever happened was because nobody showed enough interest in one part. Everybody wanted one of this or that. I'd love to make parts for Z cars, but I can't justify making just one or two of something.
  9. Tannji, That's exactly the crap I'm talking about. The reason I revived this post is because I agree with Tony that the gov't is never...ever...ever...going to come find me in Arizona and check to see if I'm being safe with my CNG. Even if I was still living in California, nobody would care. When's the last time you got pulled over for speeding in LA? They've got lots of other things to keep them occupied than worrying about me blowing myself up. We're all smart enough around here to do a conversion safely and not use scuba tanks, so I was curious if anybody had actually done it. I would be interested in those pictures Tony and I'm sure many others would be as well. Post 'em when you get some time!
  10. So....anybody done this on a Z yet? I've looked around the internet about conversions and there are a bunch of sites that are overly concerned about "illegal conversions." Surely there must be somebody around here who could care less about red tape and can show us their awesome CNG-Z?
  11. Yeah, it's not binding. What do you do, just splash some 3 in 1 down the tube and call it good? What do I do about the trip meter cable?
  12. I was searching for a solution to this, but it seems like I'm the first to have this problem. I highly doubt that. Maybe somebody can help... My speedometer began ticking recently and oscillating. So I'll be going 50 and it'll be waving from 45 to 55 mph. If I wind the trip meter up it stops doing it and goes back to normal for a few seconds and then slowly starts to do it again. When this started happening the trip meter got stuck -- either it doesn't move or all the digits move together. I've got the whole thing apart. The obvious replacements are the speedo cable and the little spring cable that connects the trip meter knob to the back of the speedo, but which one is the culprit? Or is it both? And where do I find that little spring cable deal for the trip meter? I didn't see it on autozone.com. Thanks guys!
  13. Yeah, the project is still on. I got your template yesterday Challenger, thanks! We definitely have the resources and experience to do cf, eglass, aluminum, etc...the difficulty is deciding where to start. I PMed quite a few people on here about specific parts and the response was luke warm at best.
  14. Hey thanks for finding this. I'm gonna do this tomorrow!
  15. Eh...but I don't have a Scarab Z... Although if somebody really needed a set of these, I could try and make the closest copy possible.
  16. Picture? Link? Capt Furious, there will be one in Outlaws, trust me I like the fairlady idea. That statue would be difficult to model...and I'm not entirely in love with it. I guess I'll look through the boobs post, but isn't it just going to be photos of a lot of hot girls? Some sort of logo/emblem would be ideal.
  17. I remember mine being fastened from the opposite side of the hood with either body clips or nuts or something. Hmm, it has been a while since I shaved it.
  18. Hmm, well it's definitely not either of those birds you mentioned. And I pretty much already said I didn't like it. I was looking for constructive suggestions................
  19. Yeah, that's my problem. I'm not sure I like it either. By larger you mean...like...the fat Z they have on the 350s? I was trying to think of something that wouldn't necessarily be another "Z"...know what i mean?
  20. Nah, I wasn't really looking to sell any, I think my superiors might frown upon that. --Edit-- But if somebody really wanted a custom logo/emblem/etc or anything fabbed in plastic, I could draw it up in Catia and farm it out to another printer...*shrug*
  21. So I was fooling around on the 3D printer today and came up with this... I saw the bird in a book called "Dashboards" and it's an old logo from a 1929 Hispano-Suiza. You can't really see my plastic part very well because I took the picture with my cell phone, but it has all the same grooves as the scanned photo I've attached. I'm not sure I like it, what do you guys think? I think I might print a new one without the legs hanging out. I just wanted something different than the standard Z logo in there. If anybody has any ideas for something else I could toss in the circle, lets hear it. I'm open to other ideas!
  22. Okay, right now we're looking at several different options including a front splitter, cowl, and popup hood access things. We did talk seriously about the interior panels and headlight buckets, but I think they'd have to wait. We did have some ideas for the headlight buckets and embedding lexan/acrylic into the mold to actually seal them, though that would make replacing the lights a pain. But to get us started, those are the things we're going to look at and check prices on based on material cost. Are there a lot of you guys interested in a splitter? It should increase front downforce at high speeds and we could test it in some of our windtunnels to try and optimize the overhang ratio.
  23. Well, my buddy and I are going to discuss it tonight. The front splitter sounds like the easiest. Fenders also sound like a possibility. I'm not sure I'd really want to use my fenders for a mold since there's bodywork done on them -- mind you my body work is really good, but it'd be better to have a perfect bone stock set of fenders to make a mold off of. Any slight differences in topography in my fenders -- even though it works out perfectly for my car -- may look screwy on somebody else's car. Does that make sense? Anyways...yeah...how many people are interested in that front splitter? Or fenders for that matter?
  24. Jerry, I agree with you completely! Keep the ideas coming guys! Logan
