  1. See my reply on your post in Turbo section. Len
  2. Mark Since you have a 77 L28 casting code #N42 you will have the dished pistons so you are halfway there. The P79 ,P90 and the P90a have the same chamber volume. The P90 and P90a are the more desirable since they have square exaust ports,high-quench chamber and steel seats. I believe the only difference between P90 and P90a is the p90a has a Hydralic pivot. I have a 83 280ZX Turbo with a P 90a head. I was first worried since Nissan no longer makes Hydralic pivots. Since then I found that Zbarn.com has allot of used pivots. I paid $15 a piece for some to replace a few loud pivots that didn't pump up or lost pressure after a while at idle. Hope this answers your question. Len
  3. Wow Tim; your the man! Thank you! You came thru for me once again! I'll wait till Monday to call so that Scotty will have a chance to call first, since you asked first Scotty. By the way Tim I've been squirting that PB Blaster on my O2 sensor. I just returned from Autozone with those removal sockets you told me about. She's not budging yet but I'm still a spraying, if I run out of PB Blaster then I have a few cans of WD-40 & Liquid wrench. I figure a day or two before I take the next step of downpipe removal.
  4. Hey Tim! Thanks alot for the information! That's exactly what I'll Do. Hope Autozone up here will be as kind as yours in Ft. Worth. If there not; they'll hear about it! As much money as I spend there!
  5. Well received some good ideas from Zcom. 1. Soak it in PB Blaster (obtained at Autozone) let sit overnite then wrench it!I'll try this first! 2. Other solution which figured I'd have to do is to remove downpipe and manhandle that puppy till it crys uncle and leaves its home of twenty years! Should I tape my knuckles now or later? Make sure no ladies or children are around to hear my vocabulary!
  6. Look on www.home.flash.net/~joeao/greg/zcar.html He explained how he reclocked his turbo when he added a I/C.
  7. Before I start wrenching on that O2 sensor. I thought I might try to obtain any input on removing it. I believe it was installed in 1982 (when my 83 turbo was built) and looks like it too! I tried squirting WD-40 and tried a twist. Its in there pretty good. I hate the idea of removing the whole downpipe but may have to. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. I guess the best one is DON'T do it! Len
  8. Another thought; My stock 280ZXT came W/O a BOV. It ran 5 PSI. I don't know what year Car builders decided a stock BOV was a good idea. I also don't know what is a safe boost to run W/O a BOV. You mentioned you weren't going to run a high boost. Maybe you would be safe putting your turbo together; running it; finding what boost you will run and if you can run it till you find a cheap BOV.
  9. Scotty I think Tim is right. You can pick up a cheap BOV easier than trying to rig up a EGR.Although anything is possible. Even an EGR made into a BOV. But time spent on that project can be constructivly applied elsewhere to more benefit! Tim please give me the name of the wrecking yards in TX giving those 1st Gen BOV's away; they are charging $50 bucks if you can find one here in OKC. Len
  10. Installed my A/F meter. It shows my car runs lean (or red light on meter is on till WOT) At WOT it shows I have correct mixture at current boost 10 PSI. I currently have a single wire 280zxt O2 sensor. I think it may give a leaner reading than engine really is (I think that explains why my car is kinda hard starting in summer when warn and smells like it runs rich at idle; my o2 sensor is reading lean). I priced new sensor; Courtesy Nissan quoted $109 with discount oowww! So was wondering if anyone ever used a different sensor that will mount in same hole (cheaper price). Any Ideas? Len
  11. See Donna! You didn't have to block off your EGR afterall. Old Randy can fix you right up! Len
  12. You're right TT's. No I wasen't lucky enough to find a junked vr4(wow! I just want to visualize that). I saw one on E-bay. Thought a cheap route to pick up a BOV. The guy said he ran up to 18PSI and it would work. Well looking at the picture didn't look to big. I really was looking for a 90-94 1st gen DSM ; they were running about $51 to $61 W/O flange mount(new is $98). I placed a bid on a APEXI Twin chamber BOV for an Eclipse 95-98 GSX/GST for $76. Now would rather lose bid because I would like option to plumb BOV back into intake since I have a AFM (this looks like it only vents to atmoshpere).
  13. Quick question; Can a BOV off a 91+ 3000 GT VR4 Stealth tt handle the 9 to 12 PSI boost on my 1983 280ZXT stock engine (180 to 230 HP)?
  14. Tim; That's a good point I hadn't thought about. I have a couple of loud hydralic lifters. Bought some 2nd hand replacements at Z barn. When I take off my valve cover for that; I will re-torque my head. I need to break down and get a head socket to fit my head, but I needed one anyway. I feel a real good investment considering what could happen otherwise!
  15. Thanks Scotty for the reply. I've ordered A/F gauge and will watch it like a hawk till I dial in most boost and still have good A/F ratio. Len
  16. Well I installed my manual boost controler, customized my pop off, picked up a I/C and ordered 2 1/4" exaust piping, ordered my Air/Fuel gauge and boost gauge. I saw on Ebay a Apexie fuel controler and thought hey; that way I can max out my stock turbo injectors. So talked to a guy (kinda -) and he said "with all that boost what about your head gasket"? I only plan on 9 to 12 PSI; what do ya think is that to much for a stock head gasket?
  17. Do you have a NAPA parts store? If you do and you are running 2 1/4" O/D pipe. Ask for #705-1530 hose clamps. They are alot stronger than regular( I just bought 15 of em at $2.69 a piece). I hope they will do the job for my I/C Modification on my 280 ZXTurbo. Len I also bought 2" clamps #705-1507 (they also have them larger).
  18. Also; Azel I do see Darth Vader in that pic.! lol... Len
  19. Instead of the racing BOV I am looking at the Racing Bypass Valve (I am not sure but I think they are one of the same). I plan on running 9 to 12 PSI on a stock 280zxT with a manual Boost adjuster. This Racing Bypass Valve also doubles as a Pop Off Valve so you can plug off your old Pop Off and use it. But since I already modified my old Pop Off I am kinda thinking of that super sequential. I can still plumb it back into intake (after my AFM like the Racing Bypass) in case I get a rich mixture by running them into the atmosphere. What I am thinking is maybe with the Racing Bypass I will have a more adjustable Pop Off than putting washers in my jury rigged stock pop off. I am still thinking! Len But I do like HKS
  20. I'm not sure but I was going to try using one of those cheap sandblasters from harbor freight. If you have interior stripped, may work. Then vacume it up after. But I haven't tried it. Just a thought. Len
  21. I am happy for you guy! I see great things happening. What you gonna put it in? Len
  22. While you run the engine get a large screwdriver and place the slotted end on the injector and handle end at your ear. Listen for a clicking sound, the injector is working if its clicking. If not clicking that one could be the problem. Also unplug each injector one at a time. If engine runs rougher then that unplugged injector is working. If engine doesn't change them that injector isn't working. My injectors on my 83 280zxt are brown by the way......Good Luck
  23. Guys you have been a great help in my education. I am sorta embarrased of the questions I have been asking after reading parts of Corky Bell's book! While I recover from this knee surgery I will do my homework. But when I get back on my feet and start really working on this I figure I will have more questions. Since I just purchased a new set on turbo injectors I figure as you say on modest gains in preformance. I figure although those electronic boost controllers sound neat. Pricewise I will use a manual boost controller. I will need a boost pressure gauge so I can dial in the boost controller to around 9 PSI. I will need an air/fuel gauge maybe those ten stage colored ones green/red to see if I am running to lean (so I don't burn up engine). If I am running to lean I fugure I will either lower the boost or on that gus website I could possibly use my cold weather injector hook up a pressure switch (still learning on this)to add more gas into intake and/or modify my fuel pressure regulator to allow more pressure to injectors (but I don't like that idea because I would still like to get decient fuel encomony). I am excited about an intercooler I located the Black pipe running from my turbo to my intake (on drivers side). I figure I will cut it; make flanges then run piping forward (I have to figure how to reroute my AFM and K&N filter to do this)in front of radiator and place my intercooler there. By golly I got a plan, now to refine it! Thanks again guys I'll be back!!!!!! Len!
  24. Man have I learned alot about turbo's today! I guess a intercooler is just a glorafied radiator for cooling air before going into the turbo. Am I right? I just thought my K&N Air Filter would be OK. Where do you install them; just before the turbo? I was investigating that website you just listed BLKMGK. I saw it listed an hour ago on an old thread from Cody 82 ZXT on ZCAR. (pages.cthome.net/gus/index.html) It really explains alot of things. Also this www.dawesdevices.com looks like they sell some pretty neat stuff..... I'll look on those other websites you listed. Thank you Super 280Z I'll contact you on those intercoolers Thanks Looks like you are doing a LT-1 project also! Len
