  1. If your talking about Mr. Lee; Yes but his soul, philosopy and legacy lives on.........
  2. I just read the post before yours. You might contact HoversTurbo, he may have hose the size you need. He is right it gets expensive!
  3. I used aluminized mandrel bent exaust tubing (I cut and welded to size and shape)from either www.jcwhitneyusa.com or www.BurnsStainless.com you will have 2" going out of your turbo and I believe 2 1/4 into your TB/intake. You can buy radiator hoses the diameter and bend from a truck supply about $9 a 90degree bend or you can order silicone hose from www.bakerprecision.com (more expensive). You can buy heavy duty clamps (don't buy the flimsy weak flathead screw clamps)from NAPA Auto part store for about $3 each. Len
  4. Ahhhhhhh! SDS sounds like the easy answer to so many shade tree problems! From what I heard its sooooooo adjustable! As I say I want to use SDS as a bailout for my Lt-1 install if I can't make stock ECM and harness work. Since its a 96 Firebird Lt-1,T-56. I heard the ECM may be harder to work with. But I have my trusty JTR Datsun Z V8 conversion and Chevy TPI & TBI Engine swapping and they say I can do it with stock stuff. Although reading HybridZ's "Drivetrain section" under JTR driveline adapter(currently being discussed). You find out everything in a book may not be gospel! SDS is a good backup I'm still really interested on how you come out on the "Lost in space Saucer?" you may find it will allow you just enough adjustment to solve some issues. Since Ben Watson in his book "How to Tune and Modify Bosch Fuel Injection" On pg 174 he talks of a FPR put out by Micro Dynamics but sounds just like CarTechs. You may be pleasently suprised! Just a note I remember Randy77z mentioned to me he had a Cartech FPR (older model, not as pretty or cutting edge but would do the job) he wanted to sell. You might contact him if your interested. Like you said! You could ebay it if not useful(Yea! Boy! shinney! shinney! pretty! good deal worth bunches!)......... I agree on the endless possiblities on turbo's I/C etc. I guess that's how I was sidetracted from starting to work on my hybrid project. I discovered a few months ago the devastating (good word!)power achieved with a stock turbo! As much as a stock Lt-1 by doing just a few mods! You know, now that you mention it. I remember Scottymiz drilling holes in his AFM flap to get some of that "illegal air"!!!! possiblities are endless! Len
  5. Tom I'm not sure but you might try to locate Bosch on the net (or a main distributor for Bosch). Give them the PN# possible year made and maybe they might show mercy and bless us with there wisdom on output etc. information. my 2 cents & change Len
  6. Hey if you go L28 with flatops (p-79) go Nitrous-Oxide (hold me back!!!, hold me back!!) that will cure the "MORE POWER" syndrome for awhile. But you know that truck should run pretty good with just a stock FI L-28 (also 240sx 60mm.TB and them thar biggie injectors!!!. If you have the dished pistons then hook up "el turbo" and let er rock!!!!!!! If you miss your old smoke'en 4 banger then after installing the L-28, hook up a window washer fill with lightweight oil, run a line to exaust, poke hole and walla "007" licence to kill...(misquitos!!!!!) Len
  7. Scott You make me tired just reading what you have done! First installing turbo on carborated, then injection on same. Along with I/C. Hang on I need a to rest. OK now I'm alright lets proceed.... You are now planning to go back and install a L28... I'm in awwwwh of your energy! I think you are making a good decision on the L28. Heck all this talk of Mazda! Could get you kicked off this Datsun HybridZ website!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (Joke!) Len
  8. 980mak You know if you squint your eyes while looking at that CarTech RRFPR it looks like the Spaceship on the old show Lost In Space! Len
  9. 980mak You found a good deal 4 injectors for $30, my six cost $150 (agree on 4 cylinder statement! ) Keep an eye on ebay for remaining 2 or I may be able to aquire two more in next 2 weeks (email me if you don't have any luck). My answer to your stumper is easy for me the $18 cheaper Alu. But I'm not going for pretty. I'm going POWER!!!!!! (cheaply as possible) lol!. SleeperZ I agree with your observations! Scottymiz ran his 370's with stock setup except I/C 2 1/2" DP and 3' exaust up to 18 PSI. Although he mentioned his ran a bit rich under normal operations. Scott further mentioned this possibly can be remedied by adjusting stock AFM (fingers crossed! ). So I'm thinking the 370's will do the job at WOT and I will adjust boost as much as possible BUT not go lean on fuel. I just don't want to lose gas economy at normal operations. Another option could be a larger TB (240sx,60mm which I have, but heard you gain another problem hesitation at low speeds). I guess if AFM adjustment doesn't lean it enough. Then hookup FPR that has low end PSI adjustment that is 1psi fuel pressure rise to 1 psi intake boost pressure referenced. Someone told me cartech is like 4 to 1 so that is why I keep on mentioning the aeromotive 1 to 1 but don't think you can adjust base press. below 30PSI. I'm looking to adjust base below 30psi because stock injection systum runs 30 to 40 with stock injectors (another brick wall ). I guess I will have to wait till I install those 370's and see what happens. Instead of letting my mind try to work out problems that may not even come about! I agree RRFPR with adjustable low base FP below 30psi that is also RPM referenced to allow a more adjustable powerband(possibly like that $189 Billet fuel pump controller in Jegs; aeromotive PN 027-16302). Or the final expensive solution I have purposely avoided mentioning a SDS fuel managment sysum ($800+!!!). But I'm trying to go the cheap shade tree route. I would like to save the SDS purchase for my future Lt-1 6 speed into 240Z install gathering dust in the back of my shop Len
  10. Scott Good you found that problem. I'm sure bearings don't like gas baths! I read in Bosch fuel injection a good way to locate an intake air leak is with a small propane torch turn it on (unlit; dah!) then move it around injectors, intake/block where ever you think you may have the problem! Also did you think that pin hole in your return line may have been a real gooooooooood!!!!! Unadjustable!!!! Fuel Pressure Regulator? pushing your fuel pressure up to shove more fuel down those poor little injectors? Which would also give you MORE POWER! So when you fixed that pinhole you may have lowered your POWER!!!!!!!!!! Your right These guys are really COOL!!!!!! Len

    Bottoms Up

Jeff That's great! You did good guy! Also thanks for the website information. I can really relate to a guy who brews his own beer, I did that myself a few years back. I may have to break down and build a rotisserie myself. You know I'm not getting any younger and the idea of underbody repair welding etc. on a creeper is getting old!!! That way I will have two rotisserie's; One for my car the other for my Rock Cornish Game Hens! Thanks Len
  12. Bill Have you tried contacting the Company that built the device? You might obtain some good information. Len
  13. The best part of getting stuff from Summit is that they pack your merchandise in a box full of little air bags. My son and I popped those bags for about an hour!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  14. James and Kenny I'm building my exaust systum along the turbo theory of best exaust is No exaust! I've also heard that for N/A engines a bit of backpressure is Goooooooooood!!!!!!!!! And for me a 3" systum won't have much backpressure even with a Cat. I just figure I should have two extra 3"flanges and 24" of 3"pipe left over so what the heck go for it! Oh yea James I'm heading to your town this weekend for my 13 yr. old son's soccer tournament! (the games will be in Jenks). If I see a 240Z I'll wave(but if its your current project it will prabably be in your garage!!!!!!!!!!!!
  15. Bill I'm inclined to agree with you. Hopefully just changing from 25lb. stock; to 35lb. upgrade; may not be such an extreem jump in fuel output to cause the problems you mentioned. Talking to Scotty-miz; He has basicly the same setup that I am in the process of having(and is using turbo stock ECU,AFM)except his is in a 280Z. He loves the way his runs! He did mention that its a bit rich under normal operations, and felt adjusting AFM would help remedy that. What type of brand FPR did you run in your 280z? Was it like a 1 to 1 Aeromotive type(1psi increase in fuel for every 1lb. of increase of vac./boost pressure)? Now I've also heard the 83 turbo ECU will compensate a little more for differences (not much but a little!) as compared to the older 280Z ECU. I guess I'll soon find out! Did you buy that AFC off of ebay from japandy a few weeks back? I remember he was selling quite a few to them, really reasonable. I was actually thinking about buying one myself. Len
  16. I bought some Mustang SVO 370 35lb. injectors for my 83 280ZXT. I am hoping my stock ECU will adjust for the larger injectors. If not I will try to lean out my stock AFM. What I'm concerned about is running to rich at normal operating speeds due to larger injectors. I remember in Max Boost Corkey Bell talked of lowering fuel pressure to lean out larger injectors. That is the route I figure on taking if none of above ideas don't work. Using a FPR like say a Aermotive universal 30 to 70 PSI.for $129 or Corkey's Cartech FPR for $259. Another option may be The Aeromotive Billet fuel pump controller that controls voltage to your fuel pump based upon your engine RPM $189 (found these in Jegs catalog) Also another option;possibly installing a larger Throttle Body (240sx 60mm.). I'm stock except for manual boost adjuster, A/F meter, Boost press. gauge, In process of installing I/C, BOV, 3" exaust and fabbing my Downpipe to 2 1/2" (as soon as I receive the flanges from Scottie-GNZ). Len Thought I'd show another possible option
  17. 980mak I was looking into those briefly a few weeks back. I have a 1983 280zxT stock. I installed a Air/fuel gauge, Boost adjuster, Intake Vacum gauge. Currently running 10PSI.I am in the process of installing I/C, BOV, 3" exaust along with fabbing a turbo 2 1/2"Down pipe (when I receive the flanges from Scottie-GNZ). I also bought Mustang SVO browntop 35lb. injectors to replace my turbo 25lb.stock injectors.I wanted the larger injectors to increase fuel at WOT to prevent "detonation" but I am also worried that those 35lb. injectors may cause my engine to run to rich under normal operation. I figure to first install the injectors then see if I can adjust my AFM and/or hope my stock ECU will automaticly adjust enough to lean injectors out under normal operations. If It doesn't work I was looking at either the Aeromotive universal injected bypass regulator PN 027-13109 runs 30 to 70 PSI that increases 1:1 according to amount of Vac. boost. But I couldn't find out if you can adjust the lower end pressure which is what I may need to do to lower normal operating press. to the larger injectors. The Aeromotive cost $129.99 from Jegs. Now Corkey Bell at Cartech sells the FPR you are talking about. He also builds the ones sold thru Motorsport Auto. From what I read (along with talking to Mr. Bell) you can adjust the lower end of the fuel pressure. You also connect it on the return line of your fuel line. You don't remove your stock FPR, it works along with stock FPR. The cost as you know is $259. It sounds like a more adjustable FPR. So don't know what to tell you except if you buy it let me know how it works To confuse things further Aeromotive sells a billet fuel pump controller that controls the voltage to your fuel pump to control amount of fuel to your engine according to your RPM. Sounds interesting but don't know if thats what your looking for (PN 02716302 Jegs $189.99). May have not answered anything for you! Len
  18. I hear and agree! When you stop learning; check your pulse. Your dead! Len
  19. Nezzie That is one beautiful car!
  20. Tim I saw that same "sloping in" hood scoop on a Lotis when I was in Rome last year. It was in a showroom looked awwwwsome!!!!! It also had those side scoops as well as additional roof and rear spoilers. Was really a very small car. I thought it would be just right to drive the narrow crowded streets of Rome competing with all those scooters! I bet Ford is using that Lotis idea(or vise versa) since they are one in the same! If you could wave a wand and enlarge your model 28 times...I'll take delivery ASAP! Len
  21. From what I've found the only problem with the Hydralic Pivots is access to replacement Pivots. I bought second hand replacements $15 each at Zbarn. Don't know if you can change out to solid manual adjustable pivots. Oil flows up underneath the pivot into little hole above threaded portion of pivot. Not sure if it travels thru Hydralic Pivot once its pumped up and excess flows out the top to lube rockers? This question of changing Hydro to manual has been asked before. Don't remember final consences/opinion. But I'd make sure before any trial and error. Len
  22. Pete It wasen't meant to be. If you had the $75 G's. You know you wouldn't be happy driving around in a car like that. Just think of what you would lose! All that motivation of crawling around in the grease under your Z! Heck just think of what we would lose. I guy! Boldly going where no man has gone before (Star Trek!) in the area of scientific research to promote the ultimate "Z"! Educating the masses! All that you have strived for all these years would be gone! And we would just be wandering amlessly surfing the web looking for meaning in our lives! No Pete I'm telling you now! We are dealing a higher order that created our current reality. Don't go wishing for things that can possibly alter the world as we know it!!!!!!!!!!!! DAM! DID I TYPE THAT? I BETTER GO TO BED! (Anyway; I bet if you ask Tim. He could at least get you a nice model like his for around $7 bucks!)
  23. Datto Let us know if the Pivots are same thread size. Len
  24. I'd rather paint LOVE on one caliper and HATE on the other. Summing up the relationship I have with my Z at times!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
