  1. Congratulations, Do you have two Z's set aside for them yet? Next thing you know they will be asking for the keys.
  2. Be sure to treat any rusted areas with an acid mixture you can but at any local automotive paint shop. One brand I believe is called Rust-Mort. A friend of mine restores muscle cars for a living and I have had the pleasure of learning some of his tricks.
  3. Thanks for the info, Looks like vehicles registered after June 1, 1994 weighing 1501-2200 lbs = 1.5 x .095 DOM. 2201-3000 = .120 DOM. I think I will use the .120 to be on the safe side.
  4. Thank's for all the great replies. I am wanting to eliminate the vent lines because the Z has been sitting for 8-9 years and all the lines are rotted. I was planning on installing a fuel cell but $ is tight. I decided to reinstall the tank after cleaning and painting it. I have had problems with exhaust and gas fumes in the past and wanted to eliminate as many potential problems as possible. Also I was not looking forward to spending ~150.00 on the new hoses.
  5. Looks Great, I noticed you used seperate bars from the main hoop to the front firewall. I saw a few other cages that use a "Halo" design and the front bars attach from the halo to the floorpan. Are there any structural differences or advantages between the designs? It looks like your design would be easier to fabricate and install. I am in the planning stages of installing my cage. I have access to a bender with a 1 5/8" Die. I have read several posts regarding the cages and most recommend 1 3/4" .095 DOM tubing. However a few posts talk about using 1 5/8" .120 DOM tubing. My car will be used primarily on the street but I may want to put it on the track (SCCA or ITA) in the future. Can someone let me know if the 1 5/8" tubing will be acceptable?
  6. I have a set of the Mikuni's in my garage. If you need any parts for them contact Robello Racing in the bay area (San Fransicso). Great find I got my set when I bought a 240z from a friends tow yard. I cound'nt get the hood open but I gave my friend dad 150.00 for the car. I took it home cut the latch and found the carbs. Was I suprised, these are great carbs.
  7. Meguiars sells a product called Mirror Glaze #17 Proffessional Plastic cleaner. Although Vintage-TechZ's method will give you a superior shine this product works very well for general polishing of almost any plastic. I use it often with great results.
  8. Thanks for the help I know how to proceed now.
  9. I am not sure about the Clifford but you might want to find a Cartech manifold. I have one on my 240. The manifold mounts to the original SU manifolds. I believe this eliminates the potential problem of starving the outer cylinders. There were a couple on E-Bay the other day. The only thing you need to look out for is that you get the correct Holley 390CFM carb with it or have access to one. I have seen some of the Cartech manifolds with incorrect carbs which will not fit under the hood. Also If you can get the Cartech Air cleaner housing it will make your life alot easier.
  10. I was talking to the guys at sevens only in Buttonwillow, they gave me the price.
  11. Thats a huge price difference from local suppliers! Maybe I will go to the fuel cell in the near future.
  12. I removed the tank thinking I would install a fuel cell. After researching the subject I found out the best cells to use that should meet most if not all racing specs include Fuel Safe and ATI. They cost around 750-850. I changed my mind and decided to clean up the old tank and reuse it. Thanks for the info.
  13. I know this subject has probably been beat to death in the past but I need some advise. I am getting ready to re-install my gas tank in my 72 240. I have heard of people eliminating the vent hoses and venting to the atmosphere via a vented cap or just letting one of the vent hoses vent to the atmoshpere. Has anyone done this? how did you plug the hard lines coming out of the tank? How do you plug the nipples through the floorboard? Any help would be appreciated.
  14. Thank You for the information I am considering SCCA racing in the future. If I find any Vehicle Codes relating to this subject I will post them.
  15. Does anyone know what laws apply to the installation of fuel cells in California? I have heard a seperaation from the passenger compartment is possibly required.
