-

-
Hi Terry, I geuss I would like to replicate the package on this site (3rd from the top) http://www.airflowresearch.com/ford_dyno.php What do you reckon?

Hello everyone 1979 500zx, is that measurment tacken from the bottom of the sump to the top of the cross member? paz8 -yeah i dont think i have ever even seen a 280zx SBF swap let alone a kit of some sort. Cheers
-
Hi Mr 1979 500zx, It sounds like we are doing similar things at this time. I made a set of mounts that go onto the stock 280 mounts, they work good but with the postion of the engine (as low and aft as reasonably possible) ment i had to custom build a sump and headers. My project has somewhat 'slowed down' since other ♥♥♥♥ is eating up my time and i am waiting on parts (since november) from yankie land. Anyway how did you tackle these issues, i would love to swap pics sometime Cheers

It i possible to mate just about any tranny with any motor, the way it is done is by making an adaptor plate. The theory is that the plate is cut drilled and tapped so that it can be first bolted onto the engine, then the tranny is linned up and bolted to the plate (obviously these holes need to be tapped). The plate is usally made out of steel and less commonly aliminium. the main considerations are: - input shaft has to be long enough to enter the bush at the flywheel. -tranny and engine centerlines must be accurately located -and also make sure that you can get a clutch pressure plate that goes onto the vg30 flywheel but accomdates a clutch plate which fits on the input spline Its a ♥♥♥♥ job but in most cases can be done

Hey Ali, Welcome to Hybridz (I always wanted to be the first to welcome someone). Sounds awesome, and I particularly like your inthusiasm. Remember to post lost of pics. By the way i bet petrol is cheap in your part of the world, how much do you pay (out of curiosity). Cheers

still looking forward to thoes pics mate, Hows the swap working for you by the way?
-
hi scottie, sorry to take so long, but i got a bit to much on the plate at the moment. The car im talking about was built by sammy miller, and was called the vanishing point. It set the 1/4 mile record back in 1984 and still holds it today by a long way. yes thoes top fuel drag cars look slugish off the line in comparison. The record stands as: 1/8 mile record 1.60 seconds 319 mph 1/4 mile record 3.58 seconds 386 mph It hard to behold his 0-60 in 0.16 sec. Here are some relevant sites : http://www.channel4.com/4car/ft/feature/feature/198/3 http://www.rugeley.demon.co.uk/sport/drag/sammy.htm Have fun, cheers

if your looking to do a quick pain free cheap swap probably chev is the way to go especially since your in the US. This is simply cause so many people hae done it and documented it, hence less surprises. If money is a big issue my best advice is to plan your swap in detail first, try to map out exactly what you want to do first and buget for it. remeber to include into your budget tools you will need (cranes, welding equipment .....). Also chuck in a factor of saftey into your buget of at least 1.5 Best of luck mate

thx dave thats awesome, but i think i will have to send you the dry cleaning bill for my pants
-
lol, you poor bugger, how has your recovery been from your op btw?
-
Thats cool. I would like to see someone build a turbine that drives the wheels instead of a fan, i reckon it would launch way harder. Has anyone seen that rocket car that goes 0-60mph in 0.2 secs, and when ever the guy drove it his nose and ears bleed? correct me if im wrong but i think it holds the record for the fastest even 1/4mile.
-
Dave, are you still doing the 5.0L SBF in 280zx swap ?
-
Hi mate, This happened to me on my go kart, and i fixed it simply by cleaning it up with a tap, (like AE2zx) since then it has not given me any problems, (btw i took the head off). Before inserting the heli coils, try just using the tap, it will save you alot of time and effort. Good luck

thanks alot for the info mate, btw are u running a manual or auto?
-
Thanks mate!

Also did you manage to get the government rebait on your lpg "Conversion"?
-
hey man thats looks realy sweet, that looks like a similar setup to what i'm going to run as I am planning on using thoes carbs on my car aswell, (but 280zx with ford windsor). Just some quick questions: -How much did the lpg setup cost you? -Where did you the carbs from? I ask becasue I have found that gas research parts are hard to come by, and i see you live in Melbourne aswell which is cool.

Hi I was just wondering what the 2 holes on the top of the chev oil pump is for, are they both oil outlet or what? (the ford oil pump only has 1 hole). A bit of a weird question i know, I tried to attach a picture so you can see what im going on about, hope it works! Cheers
