  1. Got a call yesterday when I was in class from the shop. The guy grinding the crank said it was already .020 under on the mains and .010 under on the rods, so it's going .030 and .020.

Other than that, I've been looking about a little at heads. There were some Iron Eagles on ebay listed as refab blemishes for ~400 a pair, any opinions on them?

  2. Im not looking for crazy power, only ~350bhp. the engine will be running:

    - 9.4:1 compression

    - Vortec heads

    - mild/moderate street cam

    - edelbrock performer EPS intake

    - Holley 600CFM carb

for the Tranny, I will start with a 700R4 (I have a buddy that has a rebuilt one for me for $250) but want to one day move up to a T56 so I can get that .50 overdrive for taking her out of town.

Rearend is will be 3.54 280z R200, but I also plan on upgrading that to the Q45? LSD once the car is back on the road and I come up with the $$

Nice, I'm planning out a similar build.

  3. Agriculture and natural resources is a huge field that's often overlooked. I'm majoring in "Grassland Ecology and Management". Depending on what I do for grad school (if/when I go) I can do anything from wildlife management to wildland firefighting to running a cattle ranch.

Then again I just spent the last two hours memorizing the tribe, genus and epithet of 19 different plants. O_O

  4. Just a quick update, I dropped the motor and crank off at the machine shop on Friday. Got a call yesterday morning saying there was a crack in the lifter valley, so I went out there and picked up the block. My guy had a bunch of extra blocks so I'm having him just use one of his (55 bucks, not bad!). The crank was scoured pretty bad in a couple places so it's getting reground.

  5. Dropped the block and crank off at the machine shop yesterday. The crank has to be reground so that will take a couple weeks (had to farm it out) but the block should be done next week. Just cleaned, bored .030 over and honed. I think I see a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel!

  6. Big bump, but just a little update. I decided to keep the ZX, just parked it in my grandpa's woodshed. I'm going to owe it some big time lovin' after it comes back out, haha.

As for the 350, I'm taking it to the machine shop tomorrow to get it bored and honed :)

  7. This summer I worked on a river survey project on the Platte River here in Nebraska. The survey company I was working with had an airboat they used to survey the riverbed. It had a Chevy 4.3 in it but had no harmonic dampener, just the pulley. Can an airboat or other special application get away with this due to less rotating mass in the drivetrain (simple gear box and prop vs. transmission, driveshaft, diff., wheel and tire) or is this just bad judgement from whoever built the boat?

  8. I sprayed my valve covers for my L98 with the Krylon Camouflage paint, olive green, and it looks pretty good. I'm still tearing down the motor so I don't know how well it holds up to heat but I don't think it'll be too bad. I also sprayed a coat of flat clear coat to help with durability and you can't tell a difference in finish or color. I'll try to get pics sometime in the next week or two.

  9. I have had many bad incidents with cops, most of the time they are hassling me because I don't bend and cower behind them like everyone else.

Well it sounds like you're a punk with a set of keys. The speed limit is the LAW and if you KNOWINGLY break the LAW, you have no right to complain about getting caught! If the speed limit sign is 35, that means 35 not 35-45 or whatever you feel like today. Until you start to respect the law and those who enforce it, don't expect any respect from them.

  10. I'm like 6' 3" so I know what you're talking about. I'd say if you're doing small stuff that doesn't require much leverage, I usually sit on a little stool or 5 gallon bucket or just kneel on the floor. If you need more leverage, just stand and stoop over.
