Rayjay (drawthrough) turbo kit? First time I have seen most all the parts at once. I'd love to have that unit on my Z. Tuning is realy easy so don't let it bother you. Obviously the parts need a rebuild. Do you have the boost refrenced FPR as well? I prefer my own blowthrough turbo setup using a Holley carb. If the kit is drawthrough its hard on the compressor side due to the fuel droplets impacting the turbine. Also I've heard of the fuel puddeling up in the housing causing idle issues. However I've never seen one in use so what do I know....

I fabed up my own using 3/4 inch barbed heater hose fittings. My drain hose is just that- 3/4 inch heater hose with a clamp at each end. Just make shure there are no hard turns or low spots and you'll be ok..I'm using a t3/t4oe turbo.

I would like to see the whole assembley. For some research. Mabe there should be a sticky made up for blowthrough. I also have a design for twin turbo blowthrough using webber cabs. NOT tripple doubles but double tripples. I already have the carbs from another mid 70's twin turbo car. These webbers are for turbo charging!! What I need is the twin turbo exhaust manifold that TonyD posted up with. I have the pic but I'm not shure if its fotochoped or not. I'm shure someone has a TT exhaust mani or can make me one for a pair of GT25's...mmmmmmmmmm twin boost!!!!!!!

stock efi pump. original to the car 8/1976
-
and yes the head is pollished:-)
-
For those who wana know -- the turbo came from CXRacing in california probibly via china...it works well too. Use syn-oil!
-
for now everything is working very well. about 17.5 mpg. I don't think the clutch has a long life at this point though. I'm in love with the sounds of boost.
-
Tony I just read your timing set info.. Seems we bolth agreed on the setting. 18 degrees, no advance(lock down), pump 92 octane. And yes I did just go and check it with the light again How did you calc. fuel consumption/milage at wot? I assume some top speed R&D..
-
here's how the blowthrough looks now. I added the stock injection cooling fan and adjustable controller to help after-run heat soak (fuel boiling off). So far so good. T3/T4oe .63 trim @ 8lbs boost blown through a Holley 390cfm double pumper. I got a free spin on a local tuner shops dyno. 250rwhp before the clutch started slipping...

My Holley/T3T4oe blowthrough works fine!!. Get a Mallory unilite dizzy and lock out the advance curve. go to theturboforums.com check out the carb + boost section. Look for blowthrough 280z as a topic. It can be done. it DOES work well. Gota get the right parts. Aeromotive makes a boost regulated fpr. 1 to 1 rize with boost!! get one and use it..I'll post pix after work..

Cone filter comming in mail with some other goodies. Picked up an oil cooler today. I used the local tuner shops thermal gun and checked out the incomming oil line temps. 235 deg!! damn hot!! I am going to run an innercooler but don't have one yet. Still looking at some others pix here to see what works out best. Probibly go under the oil pan then out the passenger side core support to the cooler then to my carb hat. then I can goto 10psi boost. Still runs a bit too rich at cruze 10 afr. WOT is right on 11.5 afr all the way through 5th. Man I love on ramps!! Turbo makes a hellova noise too. no hiding that one!!
-
no meth, no water, no innercooler, no hidden injectors. 8psi boost for now. still have a small leak on the oil feed line and a minor exhaust leak. heres a short video!!
-
she runs!!! I still gota sort out some monor issues but none the less after a YEAR of work and reading and more work it runs!!!!!! If you wana know how to do something like this goto theturboforums.com then read, read, read!!
-
I'm curious if I should cut a small hole in the mid plate under the oil return fitting or if this is ok to you peeps. I can't remember what the inside of a stock turbo oil pan looks like

as far as I can tell the engine is a 350 cid chevy with camel hump 202 heads full roller motor and timming gears. has a holley 750 double pumper and highrise intake. mallory ignition-dunno if its a uni-lite though. also has a secondary fuel pump coming off a resivoir still using the original pump by the rear tire. came with hoosier 16 x 8 drag slicks and a set of goodyear street tires. has a 3500 rpm stall in the trans. this swap smells of a "shade tree quicky". the motor mounts are nothing more than some channel iron torched to fit. I still gota check the trans mount and driveline. It does have a full dual exhaust but some of the pipe looks like it was crushed to fit ;-( I forgot my camera for pix...

I met a guy and his wife at a hotrod shop in Federalway(South of Seattle) this weekend. He just purchased a 1976 280z with a 350/350 automatic swap for 3500.00. the car also came with a 11.9 1/4 mile time slip:burnout:. He's new to all of this so I'm gona get him set up here on this board. I have had z's for a long time and told him I can help with his new Z car project. I'm gona post some pix later this weekend. I did notice that from what I could see the motor mounts have only 1 bolt to the cross member. this doesn't seem like a good idea to me. I don't know if the engine/trans swap was done using the JTR mounts or not. I do know that the wire harness is cooked from the passenger side exhaust. Also the brakes are squishy-thats easy to fix though. I'm gona give a real good look at the engine/trans mounts first and get some pix for yas...

I have an Autometer DPIC( Driver performance information center) guage. Kinda like g-tech but no gps..on bolth dyno tests my DPIC predicted hp was only off by 1 hp(less than) so even without gps tracking it does seem to perform. I did have to get a weight on the car with me in it. 2750lb me+car+1/2 tank gas. Yup itsa pig!!

ok here is the dyno info. sorry no vids I had no friends available ;-( msfi on f54 block/n47 head with 240sx throttle body, stock injectors. 147.1 hp and 171torq @ 5500 rpm. Holley 390cfm 4bbl with vac secondarys(sp?) with the AZ car intake. 146.9 hp and 167torq @ 5500 rpm... The first dyno run with the holley was no good as my secondarys were stuck closed. I think I bumped the linkage during the install.. oops. All was not lost the dyno run for the holley on only the 2 main barrels was 130 hp and 145 torq. What I did notice was that the 4bbl setup developed close to peak power sooner and then slowly rose to the final #'s. I ran 135 hp and 160 torq starting at 2200 rpm. The msfi setup had a nice rate of power developement through the rpm's and peaking at 5500 rpm. The fuel map for bolth setups was very close. I had installed the 4.5 powervalve in the holley but leaned out too much befoer it started to function. My current Holley setup is 6.5 powervalve, the white secondary spring, # 55 main jets and the stock secondary jet plate. Holley calls this a 134-34. what this is in actual jet size?? I have no clue but my afr's are ok. 12.5 afr at wot. I cruze at 15.2'ish. The afr's wonder a bit on the 4bbl vs msfi (any fi system). the fuel map for the msfi is almost perfect vs the carb. Why you ask?? Well the 4bbl works on vacuume and is also effected by the weight and rear gearing of the vehicle. It should lean out a bit before the power valve starts to work, it also leans out a bit before the secondarys start to work. I like the carb and have other plans for this setup (blow through).
-
I currently use the AZ car intake and Holley 390 4bbl carb. NEVER has it stalled, crapped out, froze up, fried plugs bla bla bla. I love the sound my engine makes I will be putting my car on the dyno monday 11-17-2008. I'm gona post the results here on another post of mine. I'm gona post all the tuning I have done as well......The 4bbl looks awesome(not as good as tripple duces but close enough)....

ok i'm a slacker. I will be putting my 280Z on the dyno on monday 11-17-2008. I will be posting bolth my dyno runs. 1 with the F.I. megasquirt then the Holley/AZ car setup..any hp wagers??

1st- I did this on my own and am in no way connected to Arizona Zcar 2nd- I am no expurt either ;-0 Car-81976 280z Engine-F54 block-N47 head-all stock internals Exhaust-6 to 1 ceramic coated headder. 2 58 aluminized stainless 1 piece mandrel bent pipe with a flowmaster xxl muffler. Trans- 1982 280zx 5 speed. stock clutchflywheel. Rearend- R200 with a quafe 3.90:1 Intake Manafolds- 1 stock 1982 fuel injected intake. 1 Arizona Zcar 4bbl intake. Fuel Delivery- 1 Mega squirt v1.1 pcb 3.0. Flow tested new stock injectors-185 ccmin @ 37 psi. Pallnet 60 mm tb. Pallnet fuel rail with pressure guage. AEM adjustable pressure regulator. all Russell AN fittings, fuel filter, and fuel lines. All new wiring, fuel hoses, pump, fuel filter, clamps, relays, eveyrthing I forgot is new except the droping resistors. These are the stock DatsunNissan resistors that were in the car. These were checked again and again and again and found to be good. 1 Holley 390 cfm 4 bbl vaccuume secondarys-all stock. I got this from Allstate carb-Central Islip- Long Island, NY. It is Zinc coated and very shiny! At the time of the swap from a runningtuneddynoed Megasquirt to the Arizona intake and 4bbl carb it was 22 degrees F in my garage(this is important). Turn around time 3.5 hours from running F.I. to running carb. I did this all by myself. First here's a pic of the M.S. fuel injection system installed on my car.... The Arizona Zcar intake arived when promissed. I spoke with Dave on the phone when orderd. Nice guy-got some laughs The IM gasket surfaces were perfect. The casting and lettering-Arizona Z Car- was nice and clean. The IM came with 4 sae allen bolts for the carb. Here's the IM mounted..... Here's the mounted carb-I'm not done with the hose routings yet. This pic is today running.. I do have the 2x9 air cleaner and throttle cable suggested by AZC. Yes the air cleaner fits under the stock z hood no touchy either. Cost of the IM shipping and all was 281.00$ US. The Carb was 322.00$ US. Cost of the M.S. fuel injection setup was expensive as I replacedrewired everything. However Megasquirt itself is not expensive. I got it assembled and with the wire harness from DIY for 499.00 I think. So here it is. MSFI vs. Arizona Zcar intake with a 4bbl carb. Starting the engine - MS requires no touching of the gas peddal hot or cold. Carburation requires the choke to be set when the engine is cold i.e. pressing the gas peddal atleast 1x. Driving the car - Fuel injection is snappier than carburation on the bottom end or taking off from a dead stop. Cruzing down the freeway at 60 mph in fifth gear 3k rpm then stomping on the gas peddal(not suggested as this might get you a ticket or worse) there was no difference in either acceleration. I do have an accelaromitor(sp?). There is a noticeable suction sound from the carb as it almost sits under the louver vent in the hood. Fuel consumption - I get 22 mph with either setup-cruzing @ 60 mph in 5th=3k rpm. Looks - I had way more positive responce with the carb setup than the msfi. I drove around to different autoshops with the hood off and showed off. The local tunner shop was disapointed I went to carb. They were trying VERY hard to get me into going turbo for quite some time now. Tuning the different setups - MSFI requires a laptop. The Holley requires a screwdriver and a small socket. I am using an Innovative LM1 wbo2. I had to rejet my Holley. Stock main jets are .512 I went up to .54 only on the 2 primary jets. I will need to get a smaller pump shooter for the accellarator pump. I don't know yet what size is stock but I do know its too much for my particular setup. from a 13.6 afr @ idle to 10.0 afr is too much gas!! No big deal there. My local auto store carries a bunch on Holley stuf right on the wall. Dyno is already done for the MSFI. This Sat I will be going to the same dyno for the Arizona Zcar intake and Holley 4bbl. What does a dyno run prove?? I dunno for shure. What truly needs to be tested is the flow rate between a AZC intake and a stock FI intake. Summation - I will be keeping the Arizona Zcar intake and Holley 4bbl setup. I like the looks and the sound. As for the over all driving MSFI is very crisp where the carb is not off the line and NOT dragracing. Stomping on the gas from a stop there is a .o5 g's difference in favor of the MSFI. Same fuel milages in cruz and city-Seattle has lotsa hills. I will be selling off the MSFI system probibly e-bay. I hope to regain my funds from the AZC intake and carb purchase. I still need to finish my fuelvac hose routing for the carb. I'm shure I left something out...

I seem to have the same issue. Heres some pix of my setup bins and a datalog segment: I have the day off and will be tuning. I'm gona set only 1 accel bin at a time and then datalog some wot runs. I'm using an LM1 wbo2 programed like this: aux 1 output 0v-5v=8.0-20.1 afr for ms wb input. This is for my dash afr guage: aux 2 output 0v-1v=8-20 afr. My Zsetup is this-L28F54 block-N47 head all stock. 60mm pallnet TB. flow matched injectors 185ccmin@37 psi fuel. 6 to 1 tuned header with 2-58 inch exhaust and a flowmaster xxl stainless muffler. 390 quaiff third member and a 1982 zx 5 speed. this was my dyno run before I got my wbo2 setup with my MS1:

ok most of you know the g-tech. The autometer d-pic is roughly the same thing but in a 2&116 inch guage. The d-pic does rwhp the g-tech does rwhp and torque. The g-tech says I have 168.5 hp and 171 torque. The autometer said 155 hp. I had to scale the car with me inside for the guage setup information. Me the car and 15 tank gas weighs 2750 lbs. Here's the dyno printout from yesturday: When I first got the car it was all stock and this is the dyno printout: I installed ms, 60mm tb, new flow matched injectors 185ccmin@37 lbs fuel, 6 to 1 tuned header 2&58 exhaust and flowmaster xxl stainless muffler. The IAT circuit was giving me some trouble and was reading a -40 degrees ambiant air temp. So the gamma fuel rate was at 122%. I need to get a cam in this thing and fix the IAT wire then off to the dyno again. I have the MS datalog from the dyno run if any is interested. Questions, comments and suggestions needed at this point. the engine is an all stock L28F54 block and N47 head. stock ignition. accel super stock coil. stock intake manifold ported for the 60mm tb. cold air intake. outside temp was 44 degrees the day of the dyno run.

Ya know I kinda like having the hood emblem...classy
