  1. Kuro/Christine, is this the car that was posted on JDMChicago a few weeks ago/been circulating the internet?

My 280z is low enough that when I had a "custom" exhaust it was pretty low hanging and would scrape 95% of the time. The main issue for me ended up being the header merge collector (MSA 3-2 header) was too low. I chopped a good amount off the two header pipes and made a custom Y pipe/merge collector and then rebuilt the exhaust, making sure to tuck it as close to the rear cross member and dif as possible.

Of course this was easier because I had access to a welder and a pipe cutter, but it should be pretty easy.

    good luck!

Yes that's mine... I have the msa headers right now (3-2) and I did have that done already. It did help somewhat, but it's still hitting in the front as well as the rear. I'm swapping the engine for an l28et this winter, so a custom exhaust will be in order anyway. I'll deal with the scraping for now :). I may have to do something special with the frame rails as well, but I'll update once I get it worked out.

  2. In my opinion there's almost two inches of room to move the exhaust up. You've just got a poorly made exhaust. It isn't hung very well.

Ok, makes sense, this is not a 'custom' exhaust, but that is the route I think I need to take. I, myself just couldn't see a way to make it better, but that's probably not my job in the first place. I see the limitation I was giving it, and it was based on a "bought" exhaust instead of someone taking the time to make it fit right.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys!

    Christine

  3. kuro your car is sick bro. Can you tell me your tire/ wheel size and are you running spacers etc? Also are you running BMAF flares?

They 'were' BAMF, they were modified by my body guy cause when I got them they were not finished. No spacers, 15x9, 15x10 -53, 205/50, 225/50.

@kuro, could you tell me who sells that spoiler? Or if one off? Your car is such motivation to get mine out and about!

    Thank you!

I bought the spoiler from here (Hybridz) just keep your eyes open, they don't make them anymore.

  4. What size is that exh.? 3" ? I think going oval is a good idea. TimZ used it, along with exiting in front of rear wheels. Do a search for his pics.

I need to address my 4" exh. to. In this older pic, it was sitting higher

Nicely tucked, did it come down since that picture?

  5. motomanmike, I have one shop look at it and they thought the only way is using ovals, I'm going to another shop (the guys that did my coilovers) so they can take a look, but I wanted to see what others may have already done. We can talk on the side about THAT guy in my siggy, I'm not angry anymore, but I can say that the flares on my car are custom (cause they only started out as BAMF flares but were reworked), even though he wants to believe they are BAMF. :)

Grim, not a bad idea, but I have my tank in the way. I'm not swapping that out (not yet at least - but if I did, something would still be under the chassis not inside the trunk).

  6. Hi all, I'm looking for options to tuck my exhaust. I'm running Stance coilovers lowered just enough to get rid of excessive wheel gap, but even that takes my exhaust nearly to the street. Has anyone routed the exhaust so that it doesn't go under the rear axle? If so, please post some pics.

I've seen one post where someone managed to mock up something that wouldn't take the standard route back there, but I can't seem to find it at all anymore.

Oval tubing? Reroute? Side exit? Anything?

I'm getting ready to do some more work on it in the engine bay, and a new exhaust will be swapped in, but I'd like to plan out something so that the exhaust isn't getting beaten up on the street.

I'm not going to raise the car, so please don't suggest that. :)

    Thanks in advance!

    Here's the problem:

  7. My coil is out of spec and I was looking to replace it, problem is I don't know if I can buy coil with an internal resistor? I had this resistor sitting on the bracket inline with the coil (sorry old photo before it broke off). Everything I read says I don't need a ballast resistor but I haven't seen anything about this resistor on a 78. FSM doesn't show it either. I'm wondering if somewhere down the line before I got the car it was put on but not needed?

  8. Spectacular build! Might I ask where you got the coilover "adapters"? I recently bought a 77 to replace my 83 S130 that succumbed to rust. The 83 was on Megan S13 coilovers which I intend to adapt to the the S30. I assume you used 240Z struts, or do those threaded tubes allow for the larger 280Z strut tubes?

If you're going to use Megan coilovers, get your sleeves from zccjdm.com, Brian makes them for Megan and Stance. My car is on his sleeves/camber plates and I have Stance gr+ s13 coilovers.

  9. One thread with a guy complaining about not getting an email response consitutes "some" negative reviews? Mkay...

Apparently you haven't had any negative experiences with him... lucky you. I can say I did, he sent my an unfinished product for which I had paid full price for and I couldn't cancel (because I believed him when he told me every week that next week they'd be done) - he lied about why he didn't finish them and then proceeded to flame me on his site after blocking me from it. I would never do business with him again. If you're lucky, you'll get your stuff. I f not, be prepared cause you were warned.
