  1. Why not just use the P79 head? As far as pinging goes, I don't know about the stock cam, but I am running a shaved .080 P79 head on a F54 block giving 10:1 compression. Using 93 octane gas, I have no pinging. P.S. What did you do to trash the cam and towers?
  2. Another option to the s130's mile long front end is to remove the bumper cover skin and sheet it with a 18 or 20 gage steel. Or fiberglass if you are talented enough (I'm not). If you remove the bumper cover you effectively remove approximately 3 inches from the front end. If you do the steel idea, you could easily incorporate a more vertical air dam for aerodynamics giving it a more "350z" look.
  3. So they might not be needed huh? Ok. More than likely it will be driven without the ducts for a while ( I have not upgraded the brakes yet). Chances are that when I do get around to the brakes, I will add the ducts then, if they end up being needed. But I plan on adding vents to the air dam now, so that when the time comes I will not need to cut holes. Thanks for the input.
  4. I am beginning construction of my air dam for my 83 280zx this weekend. So as I am sitting here tonite watching "The 10 Commandments" with the wife (secretly planning my air dam). And I have made it to the brakes air duct ventilation. What diameter ducts are y'all running? Or are your air dams just vented into the wheel wells? Yes, this currently is just a street car. However it will soon be used often on the autox to track venues. So, ventilation is an issue.
  5. Dang those women folk. They screw everything up. Good luck on the conversion.
  6. Won't you feel bad now if something really happens to him?
  7. Thanks for the help y'all. I took the plunge yesterday and began the bodywork on my 83 280zx. I have a long way to go still. So I will probably end up asking a zillion more questions.

  9. I know that it may sound like a dumb question, but After you have applied your first coat of primer (ppg), and you stand back looking at what you have accomplished. You begin to notice some low spots that need to be filled. And there are a few. Does it matter what kind of utensil used to mark the low spots? A pencil maybe? I want to be able to mark all of the spots while going over the body with a light so I can apply a polyester based filler and not worry about the circles bleeding through later.
  10. You should have driven a few more hours and visited the areas from Ogden to Salt Lake City to Provo and even Park City. Utah has got to be the most beautiful state that I have ever seen. I lived there for 4 years before joining the Army and if it wasn't for my wife living there for 24 years before leaving, we would live there again.
  11. It's going to take more than just welding together the gaps between the hood and fenders. As it sits now, there are a few braces holding the fenders in place to the car. If you remove these braces, something else is going to need to be fabricated to keep them from flapping in the wind while driving down the road. Some sort of brace that will tie them together with the hood. The headlight buckets should be no big deal. They are made of fiberglass and should be glassed to the fenders easily enough. If you decide to keep the bumper, hinges could be fabricated that will not just fold forward (like a pivot point) but lift the frontend as it folds forward. Evilrufaskay has a few pics on his site of the tilt fron end on his z. It is not a zx but it should help with some ideas. http://users.adelphia.net/~evilrufuskay/awwwwwwww_yeah.htm
  12. It is something that I really want to do. It is not going to happen til the winter though. We're moving to Washington state this summer when my so gwts out of school.
  13. I think that what hoov100 has in mind is to use the stock (steel) components that are already on the car. Am I right hoov100? This is an idea that I have been toying around with for my 83 280zx also. Except that I want to incorporate the air dam for the tilt as well while losing the front bumper in the process.
  14. nice job titanium. wanna come and do my 83 280zx now?
  15. When in doubt, let it pass. Research the parts that you want to upgrade on your 260z first and then look for a donor vehicle. It is too easy to rush and buy something in haste that is not really needed.
