Last one where they hit the cliff was tommi mackanin (sp?). He wasnt hurt but his co driver had to sit out a few rallys due to spinal injuries. It was on the Monty carlo a few yaers ago.

Its all custom work. Nothing will swap straight in and it will be wider. Its been talked about before so if you want exact details have a bit of a wonder through the older posts.
I found my zed in the trade and exchange. Its a 2+2 so they are a bit easyer to come buy. "Trade me" has had a few as well. May take a while to find one worthy of you project.

Clint,
350 chev and supra 5 speed in a 260z. Just about to take the engine over to csl in Palmy for a rebuild. looking for around 450 hp at the crank. Its been a long, drawn out rebuild. over 2.5 years now. I have made new front and rear ends that adress some of the aero issiues and had to replace a lot of roof and floor pan due to rust. Hopefully i will get it out of body and paint jail in Jan.
There is a lot of engines out there. Dont overlook the supra 3.0 turbo. It might be the best bang for buck. I think finding a desent 240 shell will be the hardest bit.
Cheers

Just seen the targa huh?
I really think you will be building this yourself. I havent heard of one here yet. Doesnt mean it doesnt exist, but if you do it yourself then it will be what you want it to be and can be built to the conditions you forsee. There is a guy in Auckland who has a rb25 gto replica that is on this site. Thats the closest I know of.

Thanks guys. Thats good to here. I have decided to let the guy doing the heads do the bottom end as well. I am pretty good on theory but have very little practical knowledge on v8's. The way some people were talking I thought the crank would fly apart. The piston will probably be KB hyper.... at 10.5-1 and the cam is being custom ground on a bilet to match the flow of the heads. Looking for 450 hp on a 350 sbc. This is a road engine. No n02. The guy putting the engine together is pretty clued up. Has a whole stack of trophys from all different classes of racing.

Howdy all,
Just pulled the sump of the sbc and found i have 2 bolt mains and a cast crank. Part # is 3932442 which is listed as a replacement 350 crank. Anyone know how hard I can spin this? I need it to hold at least to 6500 rpm. If not its forged crank time. Dont really have the $$$$ for that right now.
I really hope this will work as everthing is balanced and it just needs rings and bearings then we are ready to go.

Thanks guys. I will put some hyper... pistons in there. Wasnt sure what the crank would do. I am going to end up spending a lot on the heads so there is no point in being to cheep on the bottom end. I didnt think 6500 rpm was that high. I am used to playing with old toyota four cylinders which can see the other side of 8000 rpm with standard bottom ends.

Did a little more searching and found a co. called Powerhouse in Ca. Prices look promising. $469 Usd for a balanced assemble. Got a few more questions. Will a cast crank do for 6500 rpm? Whats with this external/internal balance stuff. Didnt some of you guys say you had fitment problems with external balancers?

Howdy all,
I pulled the Sbc out last week to have a new cam made up to suit the "ported heads" i was supposed to have. Turns out the engine is in not the best nic so i am going to rebuild it while its out. The people who are building my heads are promising 450 hp so i think i will need a fairly stout bottom for it. As usuall bang for buck is very important. I wont be spinning this past 6500 rpm.
Any one have any good sugestions for a stroker kit. I would like everything, Pistons rings bearings the lot. Summit racing loks promising but its not that easy to find what i am looking for. I also have a catalouge from compitition products. They have a kit listed for $700 to $730 usd depending on piston spec. I thought this looked pretty good and I remember Grumpy sugesting people use them in the past. Anyone have any better sugestions. I have to ship to New Zealand so west coast would be better.
Cheers

Spring rate for cars with semi trailing arms seem to be set up a bit different then many other types of suspension. I would sugesting having a look at datsun 510 info and maybe som earlyer Bmw info. There are so many factors to look into. You need to look at weight on the front and rear and the amount of grip avalable from the tyres you will use. more grip, more spring. Also the rear seems to be set up very stiff on these cars to minimise camber and tow changes.

I drive a turbo diesel truck every day. Not one of the huge U.S. ones but a ford courier with a 2.5 lt. It has around 86 kw and 280 nm at 2000 rpm. This truck was the best torque to weight avalable on the N.Z. market when i bought it 3 years ago. It actually gets along well as a daily driver but has similar characteristics of the big ones that i think would be unpleasent in a sports car. First the usable rpm range is very low, only 2000 rpm. There is no point in taking it past 4000 rpm and its of boost at 2000. So to keep it going you need to change gear a lot. Its inability to rev out would take away any sporting apeal. My truck even could use a 6 speed to give it a bit more top end and make open road driving more pleasant. You would also need to find a higher rear gear so you would run out of rpm at higher speed.

Iam guessing this dudes in Aussie. Parts for these are easyer to source downunder. People use them a lot in jet boats around here as well.

Wouldnt that mess up air to the rear wing? I am guesing that vortex g's make turbulent air fill in behind the rear window and then make the rear seem a lot more tapered to the air flow so you woulndt get as much lift..?
Tell me more.

Brian,
Go and have a wander around here
These guys have made some very impressive numbers with high compression and turbos. It all seems to be in the chamber shape, squish and the relationship of the top of the piston with the combustion chamber.

Got to do it. That le mans car sounded awsume. Drag car was pretty cool as well. Always had a soft spot for a rotor but never had one. They always seem to have the rule book against them on the race track.

Moby, what about increasing the volume of the cylinder heads. Deshroud the valves a bit. You would still want the chamber to be biased towards the exhuast valve.....maybe costom pistoms would be the best.

The metel man that I learned from used to drill the top layer with a small 5 - 10 mm bit and then weld up the hole. Kind of like a spot weld. You could then grind it pretty smooth and know one would know any better.

One of these days the fiberglass work on my Z will be finished and you will see that this is exactly what I have done. I may even duct the radiator straight to the bonnet vent so that the air doesnt get confused on the way out. The fiber glass guy has had the thing for almost a year now. Nose cone and rear spoiler are done but still need my new bumper "diffuser" to me made. Good things take time............I guess

Nice work EVIL,
Tried it with the tyres on?

Great reply Ian. That really cleared up a few things for me. So how would you go about the "perfect" Street Z aero package? We still need to get into driveways without ripping everything off, BTW.

Or......You could aways use some rocker arms or push rods and put the shock anyhwre you wanted it . You would also remove the bending load in the middle of the botom arm. Then the inside of the wheel well would be you restriction.

Tim,
Check out the weight of the pinto. Its a heavy engine for a four. The 22r is another boat anchor. I think these engines would compleatly mess up the balance of the car. A super charged 4age would be fun. What about a v6? Buick 3.8, Nissan 3.0 single cam, ford 4.0. ......Yes I do believe that what you NEED! 3.8 and t5 out of a camaro or TA.

4 links can work fine. The early rx7 ones will bind and then go very stiff when lowered. Kind of not having suspension at all. The way to get around this is to use equal length arms top and bottom and set them up parrallel to the road. You might want to put a little adjustability here so you can play with pinoin angles and traction. A lot of race cars are useing three forward links theses days and one transverse link (panhard, watts, ect.) this should elliminate bind as well.
This should be pretty easy to set up. You can get the links from dirt track store very cheep on you side of the world. use rose joints and get rid of all that friction and it will handel very nice.
