  1. OK, I don't have my Victoria British catalog yet. So I ordered from MSA again. I thought if I just order two items and pay extra for 2 day ground shipping that I should have my parts in two days.

    GUESS AGAIN...

I ordered a left and right quarter window weatherstrip gasket at about $40.00 each! Anyway, I got two left quarter window weatherstrip gaskets. I spoke to someone there and they could not correct the problem.

Oh well, this one was my fault for continuing to give them my money.

  2. I have been planning a Turbo swap for a while. I have a donor 1983 280ZX with 239k miles. I am going to have the engine rebuilt. I found this site. Does anyone think the prices are too high? Does anyone know the difference in the 3 L28ET's they have listed? Any other suggestions? After the part number, the numbers are price, core charge and shipping. I found these on rebuilt.net

  3. I have spent several thousands of dollars with MSA over the past 10 years.

I was just wondering whether people had similar experiences. Sometimes I receive someone that is genuinely interested in selling me parts but most of the time, I receive one of many people who are rude and gripe about the lack of staff and the overabundance of customers. Neither of these are my problem.

On a positive note, I did receive a call from a manager who apologized for the poor attitude shown by several of the sales people. Now if they could just do something to correct the problem rather than just apologizing for it, we would be making progress.

  4. Is asking about the service complaining? I did not realize that everyone else complains about them. I had not heard the complaints. That is why I was asking whether other people had similar problems. Not all of us can live next door. I am trying to make an informed decision as to whether I need to take my dollars elsewhere. Also, I need to decide how to respond when asked about MSA. The answer could be, I have had problems, but everyone else says they are wonderful. According to you, the answer should be, everyone complains about them and their staff is too small for the size of their operation. Just trying to make an informed decision.

  5. I have a 1978 280Z with Tokico Springs and Illumina Struts. The car is in the paint shop and I have a new set of 15x7 Konig Rewinds sitting in my living room. The car currently sits on 205/70/14's and the speedometer is accurate to a little fast. The speedometer may read a little faster than the car is actually travelling. I am not very concerned with the speedometer.

I would just like to know what size tires I can put on my car. I would like at least 205's. I think 205/65/15's would be within 5mm larger. I think 205/60/15's would be 15mm smaller. Is this the widest I can go on these rims without coilovers? Does anyone know? Any other suggestions?

  6. I went to the junkyard and got a nice set of Miata seats. They cost me $200. They are black. I put them on Datsun sliders, but I just don't like them. I am found a set of original Z seats I like better. The two advantages of the Miata seat are that they sit lower making more headroom for taller people and they have more padding on the sides like racing seats. The thing I don't like is that the seats feel hard where the bottom must be flattened to accomodate the Datsun Sliders. I would part with my set which are ready to bolt in.

  7. I have my 1978 280Z in the paintshop right now. I went with 2005 Mazda Rx-8 Titanium Gray. I got it running great, now it should look great. Next is to tear it apart and put in the 1983 280ZX turbo motor that I got. A buddy gave me a 1983 280ZX turbo with 230k on the car. Anyone have any suggestions on where to start. I would like to have the motor rebuilt. Any ideas on price or how to have it done? Thanks. Lewis.

  8. OK, I just ordered the Type 3 airdam. Now, the only question is silver or red for the car. The only other modification I am making is taking off the rear bumper and rolling the back under. The car is now white, it was originally silver, but red would look good too. That yellow looks nice also. I think I am going red or silver. or silver or red....

  9. yes that was pretty sarcastic. I don't think that type of behavior is or has ever been tolerated here. If you want to go explain how much smarter you are than the next guy, please go to the Nascar forum or the Corvette forum. This forum has always been about Z cars and helping people with Z cars.

  10. I am new to the world of fuel injection. My last Z was a 355sbc. I now have a 1978 280Z which is pretty much stock. I took the airbox off, but that is about it. I have replaced the plugs, wires, cap and rotor and still have an annoying sputter.

I have decided to replace the fuel injectors. The hoses connected to the fuel injectors are rotten and need replaced too. Is there anything else I should do while replacing the injectors? Should I get the same injectors? If I get bigger injectors will it change my performance without changing other things? Will bigger injectors change my gas mileage a lot, I drive 70 miles a day? Need help. I am willing to spend a little money, but don't want to spend too much money since I will go turbo in a year or so. Thanks. Lewis.

  11. I went with the 240mm clutch with the standard flywheel new from partsamerica. I got the clutch collar at MSA and the clutch kit from ebay for like $99. The flywheel was $49.99 and the clutch collar was like $20. So for $170, I have the larger clutch. That's a little more than just replacing the 225, but will work better when I get around to putting a turbo in. Thanks all. Lewis.

  12. Yes, you did get those fenders off of me. I wish I still had all of those parts. I had spent close to $12,000 on my last Z and ended up taking the thing apart and selling the pieces. I got mad at the rust issues. Now, I have another Z without rust. I am just going to drive it for a while. I am looking at engine options, though. How is your GNZ? Is it a whole lot more trouble to install than an sbc? A lot of extra issues? Do you have air conditioning?

  13. I am planning on building again. My last Z was a 355sbc with about 400hp and a Raptor 700R4. The car was great, had air, but just drank too much gas. I only got about 12 mpg. I enjoy driving my Z too much to have that kind of mileage.

I am thinking about going GNZ or L28et. Which do you guys think would be easiest? Which would be cheaper? Which would get better gas mileage? I am pretty sure the GNZ would put more power to the road, but I would be happy with 300rwhp. I can get that out of either. My current Z has the L28 with Tokico's, a clutch upgrade, a 5-spd and is rust free. Any pros or cons? I am not the best mechanic and I don't plan on starting until 2006. I am just driving my Z this year.

  14. My last Z was around 400hp at the crank. It would break traction when it downshifted at 50-55mph. I went to pass a slow moving semi and stuck my foot in it a little hard and the car got completely sideways with just pedal at 50-55mph. How much is enough? That was plenty enough power for me.

  15. I ran across a good deal on pacesetter headers for my 1978 280Z. Will I gain anything other than heat issues? My hood is the fully louvered one with 82 metal louvers so I should be able to shed the excess heat. My last Z was an sbc, now I am keeping the L6 cause it only has 60k miles. I have put a 5 spd behind it. Next year I may go with the turbo swap. Will these headers make my car more enjoyable for the next year or just be a pain. Thanks
