Well my 260 has long since passed away from the metal worm, but it left me with a dilema, I'd built a L28ET and wasn't going to give it up, so over to my number one love 'the classic green oval badge', some creative mig and grinder work later and hey presto. More can be found at http://evtech.webs.com/ Enjoy Nigel

One of the Dad's of a Guy who races over here, got this style of crank sorted in his V8 Morgan, turning out around the 500 mark it made for a formmidable beast to chase up the hil, agree it was an 'odd' sound, but if you blinked you'd missed it:twisted: Nige

Hi Guys Well he does talk of it 'handling 30psi boost' so 600 is well in that frame, providing you have big enough injectors and lots of fuel supply, he's already up on 3inch pipe so air ain't a worry. I know he's not far off the mark because I had mine on the rollers over here in the UK, at 3000rpm with 18psi boost we had 280hp and 310ft/lb torque to the rollers with both lines going vertical, unfortunatley it was at this time I began to understand the concept of 'boost control' and the NEED for a wastegate:oops:; went home embarassed but educated, just finished adding the gate and some more goodies, just got to tell the ECU it's got a new toy to play with and then back on the rollers later this month, I'm hoping to clear 450 but we need to decide a boost figure, with dash switch selectable mapping I can run three maps 'on the fly', so 3 different boost levels will keep me entertained. Regards Nigel

Hi It really is nice to know that you Guy's across the pond really do, contary to a UK myth still get to play with Z'ed rust :biggrin: makes me feel almost jealous that at the moment I've got none to sort out:lol::lol: Have fun with the new toy. Regards Nigel p.s. update on progress new external wastegate now grafted into place just needs wiring into the ECU. pics to follow.

Because even when the throttle body inlet hose slips off and we go 'induction'oh'natural' I can still loose the muppet tailgating me:biggrin::biggrin: priceless:wink: And I'll get a second shot; Yesterday was the first day since I bought it that I could really and honestly say 'I love my Z'8-) All the best from the UK. Coolant sensor electrical connection part #
evtech replied to jojothemonkey's topic in Miscellaneous Tech
Hi In the UK they're called mini-timer plugs, the smoother 'oval' type are called packard plugs (these I found on a subaru impreza actually fitted the Toyota supra injectors I imported for my Z) We usually get these straight off the shelf of any auto electrical outlet, they aren't make specific but are fiddly to assemble. Heres a link I found http://www.thor-racing.co.uk/Injector_Plug_2pin_Mini_-THOR00335.asp it may help you track some down nearer home, by the way I paid at least half what this web site is charging. Regards Nigel:smile: -

How about this enviro and HUMAN friendly alternative http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inergen We installed it to replace 8 off 180kg bottles of halon1211, INERGEN equated to 80 off 70kg bottles at 210bar to cover the same risk area, we hand to strenghten the floor to fit the system and give up a store room to boot. Hi Douglas Yes he is that man, he's also written the Haynes book on managment systems http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/1859608353/blueiceelectroni I'm going back in April and well I just hope I can get the traction on the startline to match the power:biggrin::biggrin: first event should be May 18th at Loton www.hdlcc.com Cheers Nigel

Hi Mate You'll fight forever to get the optimum from this type of carb, all you realistically can do at home is set the linkages to open them evenly, (tip: pull the filters and confirm the butterfly is fully open at full throttle) balance them, and set the idle, you need access to jets and a rolling road to sort out the fueling issues once you get it rolling. The only one thought is have you checked the choke tube (aux venturi)diameters (should be stamped on them) as if these aren't a matched trio of carbs then these tubes could vary in size, usually in say a 40dcoe you'd find a 38mm choke tube. I've found this link that may help you http://www.teglerizer.com/dcoe/dcoe45_tour.htm Regards Nigel

Hi Guy's Well she's been on the rollers last week at Emerald http://www.emeraldm3d.com/, got a slight problem with 'boost control' and my understanding of the control, I thought it was a software function but seeing as my t3/t4 has AND never has had any form of wastegate, this means the ECU has no valve to control therefor allowing boost to run riot:eek::eek:. After doing a remap to allow me to use it and run her in a bit more we did a couple of very wary 'power':nono: runs to get a feel for what may be the optimum boost, sat a 3000rpm she was laying down 280bhp to the road with 300 ft/lb of torque, both traces still going near vertical, boost was 20psi. Bought an external gate last night off the old eGay, so get the MIG and some pipe out next and fab that lot up, also got an ECU controlable valve to wire in so the ECU can actuate it. The wonders of modern science. Cheers Nigel

Hi Found this web site sometime back and even as a fitter some of the minor points are good to refresh the old grey matter. http://www.mig-welding.co.uk/ Only burnt one car out:oops:, but I was gas welding that at the time, it was after this I bough the mig, Oh and a 2 gallon foam extinguisher:D Regards Nigel

Well Finally got there, the car is due for it's MOT test (Uk Ministry Of Transport annual test), the engine runs and the Emerald ECU is set to bewilder me for the forseable future :icon5:, but I'm sure it will be worth it. Going to run it in during February then it's over to the rolling road for the major setting up in March. First event is either April or May can't make up my mind yet. Still enjoy, maybe even I'll enjoy it someday:cool:

Hi Over here in the UK we have to comply with the RAC 'blue book' of rules for motorsports. This link is to a UK supplier of Autolec master switches, easy wire and fool proof, http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/products/ProductDetail.asp?cls=MSPORT&pcode=LEMMW002 To make it 'remote' you either mount it externally on the car (front windscreen/scuttle panel) or as I've done on many occasions fit it in the car and run a pull cable (like a choke pull) through the car from the outside and fit the switch in easy reach of the driver, also it has to be marked wit a waring sign because rally cars tend to have these mounted next to the fire extinguisher system. Happy New Year Nigel

Follow this link to the Atlantic Z web site http://www.atlanticz.ca/index.php?option=com_wrapper&Itemid=69 Should find the bible there, I'm currently fitting mine out with an L28 but with an aftermarket ECU http://www.emeraldm3d.com/ made in the UK, so far very simple, especially when your starting from scratch and not trying to use a bit of this and that, the emerald manual for download also has a basic schematic layout for a EFi system either with or without (as I'm doing) a distributor. You'll need an EFI pump and swirl pot for fuel supply. All the best Nigel

You ain't by any chance got the wires the wrong way round at the back of the alternator? mine has two posts sticking out the back, very close to one another and the same size, unfortunately for the previous owner of my car ones live the other was an earth , I had to renew that loom section back to the fuse box, but removed the links at the same time, and as I used new wire unfortunately I’m not best placed to answer your colour code problems.

I have an auto 'illegal' halon unit in the roof of 'me den'. A 2 gallon AFFF (aqueous film forming foam), handily refillable at work:mrgreen: mounted in the garage/carport and a 1/2 gallon AFFF in me Z. Burnt one car to the ground many years ago, so once bitten and all that. Nige. -
Don't forget to guide it through the distributor hole/bush it's not over tight but can stop them going all the way home, it's a bit of a wiggle and a push, try some engine oil on the gear to help it slide over the crank drive. other than that if youv'e had nothing else out then 'looking' from this distance I'm at a loss. Nige

Sorted, found that they are also Subaru style plugs, used on uk models other than the STi. Thanks anyway Nige

Hi Folks Got a slight problem connecting the Denso injectors I bought earlier this year, problem relates to plug/connector availability in the UK, we seem to only have aftermarket listings for square mini timer plugs, nothing for these injectors, apparently from the guy I bought them from said they are Toyota Supra 440's remoded by Venom (alarmingly I've found some not so pleasant threads about the company) tried our local Toyota agent who say's "they must be imports so not interested", cheers:ass: So what I'm after Guy's'n'Gal's is some heads up for a supplier, I've attached some shots of the electrical connection at the injector, the odd part is the tangs are off set of centre in the socket, otherwise I could have possibly modded a standard mini timer plug, I can get new pin inserts to rebuild used plugs, so that's an option if anyone has 6 plugs lurking in the shed:). Final option will be to buy some more standardised Uk market injectors and flog the current ones, but I'd sooner try to locate some plugs first, as we say 'you made your bed sonny......'. Thanks in advance Nigel

I know where you're coming from, but the problem I have is us Pommies sit on the wrong side of the car:mrgreen::mrgreen: I've got a monster alternator in the way plus my oil hoses, cooler and filter (could move it with an adaptor) pop out the same side, this just limits me options so any questions aren't meant to sound like I ain't looked I have I'just hoping someone has a RHD converted. Cheers Nigel
