  1. I did the same thing that Mike did , except that I used the vent line at the rear of the tank. Works fine and NO ODORS! AL
  2. Mike: I LOVE IT!...Seven years ago, when I was looking for a Z ,before this current one, My 20 yr old son, who was into Jeep Wranglers made several comments, like " A Datsun Z....gawd, those are "Gay"". As work progressed on the Z and the car was painted in yellow with wire wheels and looked outstanding,I would hear. "Wow, when can I drive it?" my answer was " Oh, You can't drive it, I wouldn't want you to be seen in a "gay" car!"..In the five years that I had it, he NEVER drove it!. Of course, my 16 yr. old, who helped work on it and thought it was the greatest car in the world, just loved to drive the car and rub it in his brother's face. Revenge is SO sweet! AL
  3. I received my Z body , just this morning. Body is made by ABC Hobby Ltd, Japan, and comes with all the decals. This is the rally z, with the hood mounted driving lights. Fortunately, the lights are a separate piece and don't have to be attached. The bumpers are molded exactly like the Aero kit with wrap around bumpers that I have on my car, so the car should be an exact duplicate. I'll have to work on finding BBS mesh style wheels for it. This should be a fun project. I'l post some pics when it's completed. Myron: Kyle at Strictly Z was the one importing the Z bodies in the past, (see earlier post). AL
  4. Ross: Sorry to hear about your misfortune. A few weeks after my car was completed, I was involved in a minor "incident". This woke me up to the fact that I should have the car professionally appraised for insurance puroses. Well worth the $75 that I was charged. My Z is a 75, which may or may not have any bearing on yours. Car was valued at $21,000 and insured for the same. I can fax you a copy of the appraisal if you'd like. E-mail me at Baracu@adelphia.net with a fax number. Would me more than happy to help you out. AL
  5. jaime: I bought the 240Z rally from the guy in Hong Kong on e-bay. even though he advertised it as "one only" he has since listed another one. The Rally version is for 190mm body, the ZG version is for the 200mm body.I want to replicate my actual car....hmmmmm.... how do I stick a V8 in one of those?
  6. I just found more. Not cheap for formed Lexan. http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?query=fairlady&catref=C3&socolumnlayout=3&lotr=1&from=R10&sacategory=19167&BasicSearch= AL
  7. After several days of searching the net, I was able find the manufacturer of Z bodies. http://www.abchobby.com/index2.html. Unfortunately, can't find anyone who carries them. I found both of the bodies on E-bay, the 240z rally and the 240ZG race version. I bought the rally version, the race is still avilable.http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&category=2565&item=3170366407&sspagename=STRK%3AMEBWA%3AIT. Shipping is $15 from Hong Kong. AL
  8. I spoke to Kyle at STRICTLY Z and he no longer has any of the z bodies. he sold the last one , last week ( my luck!). He may order more if there is enough interest in them. he'll be posting some info on it. AL
  9. Thanks. I did a search on their site, but nothing comes up. I'll have to call them. Thanks, again. AL
  10. I'm looking to build a RC Z car. Anyone have one? Know where I can get one? Not interested in the 350Z. Can't seem to find any info on a Z out there. I'd appreciate any help on this one. Thanks, AL
  11. Ross: I have your brake setup and couldn't be happier. While everything you say is true, another important factor is brake dust. I've found brake dust to be almost non existent. With an open mesh BBS style wheel, this has been important to me. Al
  12. Rufus: I made the A/C Compressor bracket from 1 1/2" steel angle iron. The top part, that attaches to the motor mount is 7 1/2" long. But , this length will vary depending upon your particular setup. Your setup with pulleys will determine where the Compressor is to be located. I, originally made it longer and temporarily clamped the compressor until everything lined up , then cut ff the excess and welded the small angles on to attach the compressor to. A.G. : The compressor is the Sanden 505. It is a little shorter than the 508, whuich is most commonly used and has top mounted ports. It was difficult to locate . I got mine from RP Parts. http://www.rparts.com/Catalog/Major_Components/compressors/sanden/sanden.asp As to the wires : "You don't need no steeenkin' wires" Seriously, though, the main harness for the lights up front were routed through the passenger side fresh air vent in the inner fender. The alternator wire runs through the frame rail, encased in fuel line hose. I made side kick panels for the interior, which allowed me to mount 6" speakers with enough room behind the panel for a Maxi -Fuse block and headlight relays. All the wiring runs to this point in the interior. Engine wiring enters the engine compartment high up in the tunnel and is hidden by the engine. I made up all new brake lines and moved the distribution block behind the windshield washer reservoir with a proportioning valve, so the lines would all be hidden. The fuel line enters from the rear of the carb and runs parallel with the brake lines, in the brake line brackets, on the firewall, so that's pretty much hidden, too. Funny, I've actually had people ask me if the car runs, because they couldn't find any wires, brake lines or fuel lines. Al
  13. Love-my-V8z: Tires are 225-50-16 on 16x7 3 piece Modular wheels. Suspension Technique springs lower the car about an inch, but there is no rubbing anywhere. This is the second time that I used the Wrap around rear bumper from the aero Kit. Fit leaves a lot to be desired. I chose to add additional metal supports to the bumper as attachments. A lot of fitting and glassing was needed to attach the bumper so that it was about an 1/16" from the body. The "theft deterrent" system works fairly well.....one big drawback is maintenance costs, but at least he doesn't drain the battery! Al
  14. Kevin: Here's a link to some pics of the Z. The A/C Compressor bracket pictures are the last two, I used angle iron and attached it to tthe three engine mount bolts, It's rock solid. Al http://www.pbase.com/baracu/zcar&page=all
  15. Thanks. I ....uh.....have a "few" hours into it. (hehe) Al
  16. The fittings that I used connected directly to the stock lines from the evaporator coming through the firewall. Any good A/C supply house should be able to set you up with the correct angle and sizing. Al
  17. I moved the A/C lines to the driver's side inner fender in my conversion. With the correct fittings, they clear the engine. This pic shows it pretty well. I also used a condenser that had both ports on the driver's side to make it easy.http://www.pbase.com/image/18617643
  18. Joe; Here's a link to a throttle cable set up. You can zoom in on that area of the pic to get a good view. I used the stock Datsun pivot assembly with a Lokar throttle cable...works perfectly. http://www.pbase.com/image/18617643 AL
  19. Tom:I got 16x7 with 225/50 tires. Everything fits perfectly with the stock suspension and Toyota calipers. AL http://www.pbase.com/image/18780680
  20. Pete: No problem. I 've gotten so much good information from this site over the past year or so, I 'm glad to be able to contribute! AL
  21. Here's the links to a couple pictures of the AC Compressor bracket http://www.pbase.com/image/20412771 http://www.pbase.com/image/20412795
  22. "It's so simple as to be ridiculous." Pete, I couldn't agree more. After racking my brain to come up with a complicated bracket for my AC compressor, I ended up with a similar bracket to what you describe. I added an additional diagonal leg from the front of the bracket to the third motor mount bolt. I have some good pics of the bracket, but unfortunately my hosting service is down for repairs right now. I 'll post the pics as soon as they're back up. What is that saying about " brilliant minds thinking alike" AL
  23. I recently bought the 3 piece modular CXN wheels from USACOMP. Quality and workmanship is excellent. Price is around $2,000. If you call, ask for Alan.
  24. You can take the instruments apart, carefully , repaint the housings white and remove those stupid green diffusers. Put in new bulbs and see a big difference.
  25. Thanks for the compliments, guys. A few years ago,I restored a 65 Mustang GT Fastback to concours specs and I couldn't see going backwards on the Z. I really enjoyed the freedom that doing a Custom car allowed me. The side markers are from some Hyundai and work very well. Mirrors are from a nissan , but I had to make the brackets. The AC is a Sanden 505 compressor, which is a little shorter than the Standard 508 and has the ports on the top.I wanted my compressor down low and this one fit nicely. I had to make custom AC mounts that attach to the engine mounts. I have pics of the mount if anyone needs it. Thanks, again
