  1. From what I've heard Tiger Japanese has a pretty good rep, a couple guys I know got their motors there and have had good luck with them. My brother and I got our Rb25 from another place... TotalJDM which I would recommend, they replaced a couple sensors and an injector which was damaged in shipping with no hassle at all. Theyre also located in Toronto, same as Tiger Japanese

  2. Hey Stony,

You might be interested in something like Nistune or running a chipped / Reflashed ECU. This is the route I am going, if you have a competent tuner in your area thats the big thing. With most of the chipped systems you get pretty much full control over your engine, some are tunable on the fly and some need to be tuned and reflashed. Any how I think if its for a street car, this is the way to go without spending big bucks and having really good driveablity as you have all the oem drivability at idle etc... Also I think there is an option to switch out the MAF's for a MAP too.

The tuner around here is running something in the ballpark for 500 hp on a fairly stock rb25det and I saw a NA-T Rb20 budget build pushing 220 hp at the wheels on stock injectors !!

    So definatly potential there ...

If its for your race car Vipec might be worth a look, they have PnP systems and are really bad ass apparently. For 2K+ they better be though when its all said and done....

Keep us posted with what you choose !

    *Edit*

    Just re-read your post....

sounds like a standalone would be better suited .... though I think nistune can run some additional outputs ...

  3. If you want to do an RB swap there is nothing wrong with the RB20 or 25. A couple weeks ago there was an RB20det in a s13 with minimal work on it, I think just a BOV and a couple other little things that was running the SAME power as a BMW 850i V12 ( I think thats the right model number). Both cars put down 220 rwhp. Which doesn't sound like a ton but in perspective, a BMW M3 on the same dyno put down 260 rwhp. The guy was running I believe 11 pounds of boost. I run 10 psi on my RB25det and only made 210hp on 10psi, and I have a ton of bolt ons, however I have yet to tune ! The guy's major complaint with the engine was that he has broken 3 trannies in the car, which shows the transmission's weakness, its really just a KA or SR tranny with a RB bellhousing.

Any how I do not believe you should discount the RB20det it can make great power.

My vote on the VG series is that they are strong engines but awful to work on. Maybe its because Im used to working on a straight six I don't know ...

In the end do whatever you want, it will work out well as long as its thought through.

  4. Mines a bit different, but I just welded a couple of pieces of scrap steel together, and made a slot for the cable to fit into. Its pretty simple. The easiest is to drill all the holes first and then slot the final hole which will hold the cable... That way it slips in and is more secure.

  5. Hi,

My brother is running the 16' Rewinds on his car, the car is lowered so we did have to do a bit of work on the rear fenders as they did rub a speck. It they are totally clearing all the brakes and suspension etc ... they just scuff the fenders the odd time if you hit a big bump. I think he's running 215/50/16's or something around there ...

  6. One thing to remember at the moment RB oil pans are very pricey as they are no longer available from Nissan.

I have a RB25det with bolt ons and it is a ton of fun, if your doing the work it might be worth a RB26. These engines get pricey quick which is the major knock.... also buying some parts takes a wee bit more time than on other more mainstream engines. I say if you can find a decent price on an oil pan go for it !

  7. Hey man,

I'd suggest using a autometer programmable speedo, the're about 200$ bucks and are calibrated with a handheld GPS while driving. I have one in my car its pretty accurate and easy to re calibrate if I switch rearends.

Unless there is an awesome reason to uses a GPS signal I would say forget it. They also go pretty high too I can't remember how high mine is, but its high enough I wouldn't want to go there in the Datsun .

    Cheers

  8. I think there putting something in that Toronto water ! Sorry to hear about the RB project, maybe you'll have to switch to building a monster VG engine? Any how hope it works out for you man.

  9. Thanks for the advice all...

Quicker: Ill check out that Nepco part if Drew's doesn't work thanks for the heads up!

Huy: I have tried the mustache bar in both configurations ... bar to the front and bar back. it seems to fit best bar back although there then is a 2 inch gap to the shaft. Even when flipped the other way it just about could work but there is not enough of the driveshaft biting into the tranny for me to be comfortable. The shaft was made to fit my RB25 + R180 combo a couple years ago..

Dan: Thanks for the advice, I will mount the Diff in the rearmost position that way I at least know I have one issue nailed down. I have tried about every permutaion I can think of and it hasn't hit anything ( front mount flipped both ways, bar flipped both ways) so I must have one of the curved rear mounts..

Drew: Pm sent Ill buy that joint off you

    Thanks again

    Cheers

    Chris
