  1. Thanks Ryan. You were right, the suspension dropped a little more after the short run. Still need to get an alignment though. I'm a little concerned about that weird noise coming from the right rear when I'm backing up. I haven't had a chance to investigate yet.

Interesting... I would go over everything again in the rear to make sure it's tight. Hope it's something simple.

  2. Yep, thats why I Emailed him, but he still says NO. He might not know for sure and is covering his butt.

That should fit on your 280 pretty easily. Kenny and I are using the 240Z Kaminari spoiler, which does require some modification to fit on a 280z (minor trim on the spoiler and some metal trimming). I can show you what had to be done to my 280 sometime, but I don't think you'll have to do the same on your car.

  3. I've already rolled the fender lips and it rarely rubs now when its just me in the car.

When I have a guy my size in the car with me (I am 250 lbs) it rubs more often..

Yeah, my rubbing is more of a problem when/if I have a passenger. Most people around here don't want to ride in a car with no A/C, but I can't really blame them.

I am currently running Suspension Techniques 280z springs (they are gray colored), their tech line says they are 182 lbs/inch rate which I am not sure I believe due to the rear being pretty bouncy, althought that may be a strut issue too.

You have the same springs, correct? Do you think they have a 182 lbs rate?

Yeah, i'm also using the Suspension Techniques springs for a 280 on my 240 and my 280. I've heard the same on rates.

So, I am going to invest in some aftermarket struts, prob Illumina's on 4 or 5 setting and see if that keeps it from bouncing.

Some guys on here think that the Illumina's should solve my issues.

I've heard the same and know of a few cars that this was done on. They've said with the setting on 4 or 5, you don't get the scrubbing unless you hit the more serious dips at higher speeds. I've seen this on a car with 17's (a member here) and on a local guy's car running 15x8s. I'll be getting them for my 240 soon.

If that doesn't fix it I guess I'll be switching to coilovers.

    Time will tell.

I'm planning coilovers for my 280 already. My 240 sits higher, so it's not as big of a problem.

Again, car looks great and happy to know I had a little influence:mrgreen:

  4. Hey Ryan, are you using the stock wheel studs with your Sportmax's?

If so, what tuner lug did you end up using? I just bought the same rims for my Z, but in silver and I want to have everything I need when they get here.

I am thinking about 225/55/16's up front and 245/50/16 for the rear.

I'd like to do 245/50/16's all the way around, but I think I'd have to space out the fronts seeing the limited room you have with 225's and the lower spring perch.

I am going to go with MM's 4x4 brake conversion, I've heard that the kit ends up spacing the front wheels out alittle. Can anyone confirm this? If so, and depending on how much spacing, it might be enough to have the tires clear the front lower spring perch.

    Thanks dude.

Yeah, they're the stock studs all around. When I ordered these wheels, I opted for the tuner lugs to come with the set. They're standard tuner lugs, 12mm x 1.25mm. I've seen the same ones at Autozone/Advance.

I'd be wary of the 245/50's on the rear, but that depends on your suspension. I don't mean in terms of clearance with the struts, but with scrubbing on dips in the road and whatnot. I actually wanted to get that size initially. Those are wider than what I'm using and I've taken quite a few thin rubber pieces off the sidewalls on my rear tires since this posting the pics here.

Coilovers/illuminas are still on my list...

  5. Pegasus Racing sells a small easy to use tool that works great for this. I just got one to test it out. It is basically just a hallow nut with a serrated bottom. You hold the nut and tighten the bolt down through the center and it pulls the back of the nutsert up crushing it into the hole. I highly recommend that you purchase a tool to install the nutserts. They are 10 dollars plus shipping from Pegasus... they come with a 1/4-28 bolt which needs to be swapped to a 1/4-20.

Nice, thanks for that link. I've been looking for an inexpensive nutsert tool.

  6. After that it all went back together with the only issue being the top washer for the sway bar, that last piece to go on, mysteriously disappeared. It took us 10 minutes to find the damn thing sitting on the trailing arm where we both had looked at least twice, damn garage gremlins!

Seriously... I checked the top of that control arm at least three times. Gremlin, leprechaun... maybe your cat got out, I don't know.

I can't thank Ryan enough for this

No problem, man. Glad to have helped! Ride height looks good and it'll still settle down more as you get the rest of the car back together.

And I'm jealous of your garage.
