  1. nice find! lots of good pics there of the buildup in progress... but it would be nice to see a more detailed writeup, instead of pages of pics with one page of specs. oh well, just my opinion of good website design... anyway, imagine that setup in a 240Z, hehehe...
  2. lt1240z, nice plug on Barnett's!! it is definately a well-kept (and pretty well-hidden) secret and they can be cheaper than summit or jegs. plus, they usually have what you need in stock. i have joked with those guys before about how jegs will at least send you an ugly new hat with an order.
  3. agreed. great deal if you get all the goodies. also, lt1240Z brings up a great point about the 305/350 notion and 305 tpi's are much more common in 3rd generation camaros. an '88 tpi 350 certainly is a good find.
  4. yeah, if you dont mind, pics would be great. no rush, though. i completely understand about how downtime leads to being down. thanks, ahead of time, for the pics.
  5. i'm interested in some measurements on that escort fan. i would like to use the taurus fan, but with the scarab setup on a '73, i am limited to the space between my waterpump pulley and biga$$ motorsport v8 radiator. so, i was hoping that the escort unit would be a little skinnier...??

    WOW!

good to hear, mike. when you have a cam go like that, you have to go thru everything. i had the same thing happen to my old 350 (wore two lobes on the cam) and the bearings were scored pretty good from the metal in the system.

    WOW!

good deal, man! it was pretty warm yesterday, so that's a great indication of how your car will run in the coming months. mine ran about the same temp yesterday. what kind of radiator and fan are you using? also, what all did you do when you replaced your cam? did you just replace the stick and lifters? or did you check your bearings and whatnot, too? the metal from those worn lobes had to have gone somewhere, and usually not much goes thru your oil filter.
  8. i had a 350 in my car with straight plug tuned-port 305 heads. i used hooker block huggers with that setup. in december, i replaced that engine with a 377, using canfield heads (angled-plugs). the hooker block huggers would not work with my heads. i had posted a question on here about what headers to use with angled plugs, and was pointed here: http://www.zigsstreetrods.com/engparts/headers.htm the rw37's are the ones that i use. great price AND they come coated. i get plenty of clearance, too, between the sparkplug wire boots and the headers. i may change to full length headers in the future. the S&S headers full length will work with angled-plugs, too.
  9. hey joe, i've got a firebird for sale myself, hehe. i will definately let you know when we go to eatonton. i know of a 1972 white 240z with a great red interior, a dash with NO cracks, and i believe it runs. it has been hit in the front, though, with dented drivers fender, hood, and lower valance. it would be great for a buildup, especially for $700. comes with replacement driver's fender and a good stock hood. if i could get it, i would jump on that in a heartbeat. the interior alone is worth that to me, especially since the dash has no cracks. let me know if you are interested and we can set up a meeting with the owner. ryan
  10. yes, they do have a website: http://www.ssheaders.com/StreetRod.htm
  11. will do mike and rick:cheers: another note for georgia hybridz-ers, once my friend paul finishes the new motor and powerglide in his '71 240 drag car (within the next month or two), we are planning on taking that car, his '72 350 car and my '73 377 car to the 1/8th mile strip in Eatonton for our own sort of silver v8 z showoff. there are lots of guys down there with big block novas and camaros and paul's silver z is well-known for stomping the competition. i will let you guys know when that date (it will be a sunday) comes, but anyone else that wants to come will be more than welcome.
  12. hi pete, yeah, i have seen henry's z and it is really really nice. i knew about his car before i ever attended a meeting. i wasnt really referring to him personally, though. i caught some hints of the purist winds at the two meets that i attended. i did get to see some great cars and to mingle with some great z-enthusiasts. i drove my 6 cylinder 280 to the meet and, even though the car is about 8 different colors, people were really nice and curious about what i had done to the car. but, i was talking with a group of people outside the formal proceedings at the last meet i attended, mentioned my intent with my 240 (v8-ing it, that is), and was practically shunned from the discussion for mentioning such an atrosity. no big deal, but i still think a hybrid group would be a good idea. i plan on going to another ga club meet with my 377 240 sometime in the near future. thanks for the mention of another great benefit of the jtr kit. i do like that it lowers the engine and sets it back closer to the firewall. my air cleaner is a drop base unit, too, same moroso as yours. i actually ran a 4" cleaner with my 350. but, i really like the look of these cars with the fiberglass cowl induction hood anyway (and the weight savings). i really like your car a great deal, though, and think that yours is definately more appropriate with the stock hood. love the color, too! i look forward to hearing further details about the progression of your car.
  13. that is a great combo. but, edelbrock performer rpm heads don't suck, man. i am a huge fan of canfields, myself. that's what i have on the engine in my car. and i think they are superior to edelbrock rpm heads, but, i think it is important to stress the note made by grumpyvette on the performer rpm/canfield thread: performer rpm are more for street/strip applications and canfields are more on the side of race heads. it's easy to compare numbers with race-style heads and note which numbers are superior. however, we are talking about z cars on this forum. is 475hp not desirable? anything over 400 hp in a z-car is a SERIOUS machine, canfields or not. and for 25 more hp/27 more ft-lb of torque, i'd say keep the combo you have as is, especially since it is already built. you'll be plenty happy the first time you put your foot down.
  14. good idea mikekz! i've been to the georgia z club meetings, but there wasnt much room for v8 guys, it seemed. nice guys, other wise. we could have hybridz-georgia division meetings. thanks jwelch . it handles great to me. most people that go for a ride in it are surprised. yeah, i have the scarab setup. on my next car, i plan on using the jtr setup, but i dont have any complaints about the current scarab setup. i never planned on autocrossing with this car, though. it's great for cruising around town and going REALLY fast in a straight line. the engine wasnt the only thing done, though. before the 350 was put in, the car got new polyurethane bushings throughout, new struts, all the brakes were redone, new swaybars front (2+2 bar) and rear. besides that, the car had 54,000 original miles before the first v8 (i have lots of service receipts from the previous owners). it's got less miles than most cars made in the past few years.
  15. hi timhypo, the wheels are weld draglites, ordered from jeg's. fronts are 15x6, 3.5" backspacing, 205/60-15 BFG. rears are 15x8, 3.5" backspacing on 235/60-15 BFG. i think the stance is almost right... i think the front needs to be a little lower. i'm not running coilovers at the moment, but i am considering it. i want to do a 5-lug conversion with coilovers and then use american racing Torq-thrust II's - 17x7 on the front and 18x9 on the rear. but, then again, i may sell the car and start over. anyone? anyone? wink, wink, grin, grin, nudge, nudge..... thanks on the hood. i am a big fan of this one. didnt have the hood for a while with my 350, but i always thought a 2" cleaner looked sort of mickey-mousish on the motor. it does go well with the stance IMO, too.
  16. hehe, i was surprised to see this thread back to current. lt1240z, i would happen to live on 138, on the right leaving stockbridge, hehe. stop by sometime and we can compare notes. evenings after 4 are usually best. email me if you know in advance you are coming.
  17. glad you liked it. yes, it would be very easy to make a bonnet to direct air into the radiator like the kaminari unit does.
  18. lookin' good!! i love those wheels, too. i would like to see the specs on the wheels, too. i think the rear looks great as is. i wouldnt change anything. love the gas cap! i also really like the license plate cutout you made. i might center it directly below the lights, if nothing else is on the agenda to be added. personal opinion, though, like lone said.
  19. go here: http://babelfish.altavista.com/ click the webpage tab and enter the URL of the site you want translated. then choose the language conversion and click 'translate'. it's not perfect, but it does give you a great idea of what's going on with the site you want translated. good luck! ry~
  20. hmmm.... my girlfriend just got a '91 Q45. maybe she wont notice if i...
  21. oh, will you be doing a writeup for your conversion on your site?
  22. looks great kazu! very classy! i've thought about doing the 5lug conversion, too, for a set of 17" american racing torq-thrust II's. jeromio, that is the 50-1420 from MSA. it is one of the cheapest front spoilers you can buy. very nice and lightweight, too. got one on the car in pic 21 in my photo album.
  23. fairlady327 is right about the lowered cars. i am glad that it was a urethane spoiler on the 240 that i was referring to. if that car had the kaminari like my '73 car does now, the spoiler would've been toast on several occasions. i did have a little warpage on the driver side fender of that car from one too many speedbumps. i actually thought the kaminari would have been lower in the front than it really is.... and i am planning on lowering the front by about 1". my car sat about 1" lower with the 350 i had with 305 tuned-port heads. i have an '86 trans am that has been dropped quite low, too. it has a 400 in it.. with mounts that lower the engine. i've hit 2" deep potholes that have torn my exhaust off on the driver side, as well as denting my oil pan. ouch! 73 240, i added a pic of to my photo album of my friend's drag car with that 50-1420 spoiler on the front. it's pic #21 in that folder. it was flexing a lot over 90mph, so we added riveted two metal strips from the center of the spoiler to the radiator support. keeps it in place nicely. and this spoiler is as light as a feather!! i definately recommend it. mtj71z, thanks!! glad you like it. looks better with the blue foglights installed and my new euro front bumper. kinda makes a nice package. i should be adding new pics soon to show what the rest of the '73 car looks like. i'll also be adding two new albums in the near future: one for the '71 silver drag car, and another for the silver '72 i have been working on (putting my old 350 and complete exhaust, headers to tailpipes, in it) with a friend. if anyone runs across a '70 silver 240, please let me know, hehe. that will complete the timeline for silver 240's. i have a '70 that's orange... i guess i could paint that silver.....
  24. Year One sells lots of stock style chevy emblems that can be put on to appear stock. a friend of mine has a blue chevy bowtie stickon from a malibu that fits nicely on his hood. i am thinking of getting one to stick to my fairlady grill. once they stick, they dont come off. you can tell by the sound of my car anyway that it's not a 6-er.
  25. the 50-1411 is 'ok'. i had it on my first 240 that i worked on. i liked that it was urethane, since my car sat so low. but, its sort of plain, IMO. one that i really like is the 50-1420. i have a friend who only uses that one, as it is a great cheap( alittle over $100), light replacement to the lower valance. the pic in the msa catalog doesnt really do it justice. nice and clean look, though. my air dam of choice is the 50-1422 kaminari. that's the only one i will use from now on. it looks really killer on the car. the center cut out has a scoop that goes all the way to the radiator support from the front of the spoiler. great design! i was surprised at this when i got mine. the price is high, but i think its well worth it. it does a great job of directing air through the radiator. click my homepage tab and you can see a few shots of it on my car. i actually have different foglights in mine now, though. found some blue piaa round lights that fit a little better in the holes than those yellow cheap ones.
